Summary: hardware: mediocre. software - virtually non-existant
Review: the hardware portion of this book is just so-so. one key point is the inaccuracies in the irq and addresses (at least 6 questions on the test). the software section is only about 15 pages long. this to cover dos, windows3.1 and windows95. if you don't know this stuff already, this will be no help at all. GET ANOTHER BOOK. YOU WON'T PASS THE SOFTWARE TEST WITH THIS ONE.

Summary: A great start
Review: This book is a great start to build a foundation of knowledge, but should not be used alone. It covers the Core section real well, but is a little weak in the DOS/Windows area. With using this book as my foundation I got a 98% on my Core and a 93% on my DOS/Windows.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: The Best A+ Guide
Review: If you study the core section of this book you will pass the first test. If you use only the Dos section of the book without some other sources you are going to be up *hit creek on the second test.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great Book / Lacking in Dos/Windows
Review: This is a great book to study for the exam. Written in easily to remember english which is a rarity in computer certification books. I got 85-Core/90-DosWin, but I feel I would have got a lot lower on the DosWin section if not for my previous experience.

So plain and simple:

To pass Core - great

To pass DosWin - barely

Summary: Author/Editors need copies of "Editing for Dummies"
Review: First the positives: This book is very well formatted. I like the use of "instant answers" (stuff guaranteed to be on the test), tips, and the quizzes at the beginning and end of each chapter.

Now the negatives: There's really only one big negative. There are way too many mistakes and typos in the book and on the CD-ROM. It's a bad sign when the first question on the practice test in the book is incorrect. Also, there are some questions that are listed in two or more parts of the book, and the answers given in each part contradict each other. Errors also exist on the CD-ROM.

On a side note, a friend and me plan to take the test at the same time. He is using the book "A+ Exam Cram", ISBN 1576102513. In comparing each others books, we found a lot of contradicting answers (either way...sometimes his book was wrong, sometimes mine was wrong). Honestly, we wouldn't recommend using either of them. Go for a better book. Might be a little more expensive, but it's worth it.

Summary: It's got some errors but show me a book that doesn't
Review: Geeze people. It's got some errors but show me a book that doesn't. They can't release new versions every month. Use more than one reference and dig into your weak subjects a little to learn what's right. I used this book along with Mike Meyer's (yes his had errors too) and passed easily. I registered the Prep For A+ software on the CD for $30.00 and got test vouchers from the same company for $190.00. With the savings on the tests I in effect got this book and the software for nothing.

Summary: Very useful, especially the practice questions
Review: I used this book and the Total Seminars books to prepare for both exams and passed, no problem. This book fills in the gaps that Total Seminars leaves out. I wouldn't use this as my sole resource, but I did find it very useful. Study the practice questions! They're a pretty fair representation of what's on the test.

Summary: You all need to study and stop been lazy!
Review: I have decided to write a review on this book after goingoversome of the reviews on it. I took my A+ certification last yearAugust and i passed with an 88 in DOS/Win and 93 in the Core. I studied from this Book and from my opinion, this book has good materials for the core exams. The Dos/Win is not that comprehensive, but this book should not be used as your only studying materials for A+ exams. I gave this book a four star, cos of the Dos/Win section. The core section is great. The author needs to update the Dos/Win section of the book. A+ tutor is another good site. I used this book and i went through almost all the questions on the internet on the exams as well as the Self test questions and i passed. Personally I feel the book is good, it only needs a little touch up mainly on DOS/WIN. END

Summary: Complete Waste of Money
Review: Unless you are a knowledgeable computer tech or otherwise can understand where the mistakes are located in the book, then this is definitely the worst book you could have ever selected. I did buy it and have been sorry ever since. The best source for study is THE ALL IN ONE A+ CERTIFICATION EXAM GUIDE by Michael Meyers. Dummies must have hired dummies for this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great easy to read book, CD could use a little TLC though
Review: Here is the low-down on the book. First of all, the book is very very well done as far as being consise, easy to read and on the point of what you 'need' to learn for the test. It's organized into many chapters, i believe this is very effective. Read it, you'll see why I say that. Secondly, the book will actually tell you that "you need to know" this and that for the Exam. It has special icons even pointing these items out. If your looking for a deeply detailed book telling you every aspect of a computer since day one, dont by this, this is purely a A+ prep book, and somewhat a Tech's reference book, but I wouldnt use this as the only reference book if i were a Tech. And the Windows/DOS part of the book is not a lot, but some of it is mentioned within the CORE section of the book. Things do overlap in this book some. Anyways, buy this book guys, it's not boring at all to read, the author makes sure of that. Good luck on the A+ exam
