Rating: Summary: No experience and Passed both test! Review: After a very bad review from a friend who bought another book(which also has very bad reviews here) I decided to by a different book. With the Dummies book I passed both test(which i took on the same day)! I have no experience other than putting my own pc together and working with it. This book does have a few errors doesn't cover multimeters well enough to answer the questions that come up on the test. Bank on at least 2 questions on that. I passed both with 76%, while not high I did not cram as much as I really wanted to! On to MSCE, I know that will be much tougher! Good Luck
Rating: Summary: The One to start and end with! Review: A super foundation book! This is the one to start with, add Exam Cram, a little Dali test software, back to Dummmies one last time and you're there! Got a 90/Core, 94/Dos-Win ! Well-rounded, but just a little short here and there. Thanks Ron!
Rating: Summary: Typo - please note. Final Review 8 wks after teaching book. Review: See author's comments[technician's]:......Even if you aren't the most technically astute, or even if you are, you can prepare for the A+ exam and maybe smile once or twice while you do it. After the test, or should you not be interested in A+ at all, the book will work very nicely as a service techician's [technician's] computer repair reference. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Excellent core Help! Review: I really enjoyed this book! It helped with my understanding of the core part of the A+ test-I almost managed to ace that part, and this book help a lot. I loved the self tests and the CD with its little space ship game. If I was to say anything bad about this book is it needs to be more complete on the DOS/Windows/Networking basics I tell people to get this book as a excellent study guide, its easy to read, more importantally a easy to understand read. And that made all the difference for me. Thanks for helping me pass!
Rating: Summary: Fine A+ Certification Prep Tool Review: This Dummies book shouldn't be overlooked because of its simplicity. Since this is probably going to be the first book an aspiring A+ Certified Service Technician would buy, the generality of the concepts that would be tested will ease the understanding for the more advanced topics such as all the mind-blowing technicalities of the OSI Layers. Yes, you will need to study from additional books, but since the A+ exams covers a broad spectrum of computer topics, this should be no surprise. Hands-on experience is a must!
Rating: Summary: Good book, but not a great book! Review: I agree with another reader on that this book does not give enough information about the Dos/Windows exam. It did however do a slightly better job on the Core exam. The book is a good buy for the price you pay, but this book should not be bought as the only resource to pass the tests. There are just too many small details on the test, particularly on the Dos/Windows, that a beginner might miss if this book was his/her only resource. Good book, but use another along with it just to be safe.
Rating: Summary: Not To Shabby Review: I thought this book was great! I used this and this book only to study for my A+. I thought it covered th information well. I read it once and then studied in my car before I went in for the test off of the cheat sheet in the front and passed both tests with 80+ scores. If you read this and can't pass the test, I think there is something wrong with you. I do agree however, the disk in the back of the book is junk.
Rating: Summary: The only book you need to pass both exams Review: This is the only book I used to study for both exams. Passed both exams with 85+ scores. This book does a very good in providing ONLY the necessary info to pass the exams. You don't have to waste time studying for things that are neither on the exams nor useful. But be careful, the practice exams on the CD-ROM contain quite a few errors.
Rating: Summary: Very good for novice techs Review: This book was written pretty well. There should have been more information on the dos/windows module. I passed both tests first time, with the help of this book AND others. Would recommend using other references as well.
Rating: Summary: A decent quick review book-typical Dummies style Review: This book is a fast paced review. Enough humor and information mixed to keep it intereseting. It also contains enough errors to be annoying. The CD game is just that-a game, but not much of a learning tool, and the CD test questions also contain errors. Over all, if you're familiar with the field this would make a quick refresher, but you might look to other scorces if you want accuracy.
