Summary: Great but make sure you have another source for DOS/Windows
Review: This book seemed to cover all of the essentials for the exam but just in case, I would use the DOS/Windows portion of the Exam Cram book just to make sure you have all of the bases covered. The reading is quick, down-to-earth and to-the-point. I look forward to reading more books wriiten by Mr. Gilster.

Summary: Excellent resource for essential PC knowledge.
Review: Thanks Ron, your book gave me quick answers and insight into what to expect on the A+ exams. Along with one other resource manual and a practice test off the Internet, I crammed for a mere 3 weeks and am now A+ certified. Thanks again.

Summary: Excellent, yet not the only, resource one should use...
Review: Found this book to be the one I went back to time and time again. Sure there are errors, but which books don't have errors? A little light on the DOS/3.x material, had to purchase other books for more in-depth answers. This book at least was written in plain english, easy to read, not like some of those eye-closing technical books. They're good for reference, this was good for test prep.

Summary: Easy to Read, Very Informative & Funny! You'll Pass A+!!!
Review: I found this book very informative, very easy to read and it also had some humor to keep you awake. I learned alot while having fun. I bought this book and passed the A+ test on my first attempt. Thank you very much Mr. Ron Gilster. Write more!

Summary: Good Book but some errors!!!
Review: Not exist the perfect Certification A+ book. Myers book is a reference book, Microsoft book is a text book, and this the Dummies book is another cram. So, if you dont have pc repairing, maintaining or troubleshooting experience, i recommend clases or intensive trainning in real scenarios. Otherwise, the road is hard!!!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Brief, informative and to the point but riddled with ERRORS!
Review: The book is easy to read and has many good features such as the "INSTANT ANSWERS", which along with the way that it breaks down the material makes it an excellent way to prepare for the actual thing. However, the errors and typos in this book really make it frusrtating to read. Eventually, I was double checking every other answer in he review test to make sure that it was correct. I guess this is a great way to reinforce the information

I would recommend this book with a more complete book such as A+ Exam Cram, which is what I used in addition and scored 85% on the Core and 80% on the DOS/WIN. This way you can have a fast easy to study reference and another more complete reference to back up the Dummies book.

Summary: Not a book for a computer illiterate to begin with.
Review: Some wrong info for sure in this book. Also some explanations that are nonsense. An experienced tech could certainly pick this book apart. I have a solid background in troubleshooting in electronics and this book was my only reference. I passed the A+ exams the first try. I also followed the directions in the front of the book: Keep it simple and don't read anything into the questions. The work contains all the information necessary, despite some mistakes, to pass both A+ exams and is presented in a light manner that eases the pain of wading through the material necessary to pass the exams.

Summary: Good Book!!
Review: I was recently hired for a job as a PC repair tech and had 90 in which to get my A+. I bought the book and started to read. 60 days later I am a A+ certified tech. This was the only book that I read. The reason that I give the book only 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the mistakes. There are many. If you purchase the flash cards that go with it, then be prepared. The cards are nothing more than a bunch of mistakes. On one note about the mistakes in the book though, if you do have a question, the author is more than willing to explain the correct answers. I emailed Ron several times and always got a prompt reply. I have recommended this book to everyone that I know is studying for the test

Summary: For a Good Joke, Read Answer 28 on the Core Exam
Review: This has got to be the runner-up for worst A+ book, if not grand champion of the worst A+ books. I just love this. In the chapter on serial/parallel ports the book says the maximum length of parallel cable is 15 feet. Throughout the book this is repeated. In the Core Exam at the end of the book this is question #28. The answer for #28 is 10 feet. The answer explains that some says 15 feet, but stick with 10 for the test. Do you think this will go over with the testmakers at COMPTIA? This book is a joke.

Summary: CD Practice Test is too easy but the book is a good one!!
Review: I just tested today and passed both test (Hardware 87% and software 83%). This book has some errors but it still deliver a great education method by providing easy to understand terminology definitions + remarks on what you must know for the test. The CD that's included with it is not a good one 'cause the practice test on it are to easy. I passed the CD practice test with an score of 1023, so I borrowed another cd from a friend that had a lot of hard question and tested on it until I passed with an score of 905. Then I went to the real test center and here I am.... A+ Certified!!!!
