Rating: Summary: Excellent Resource especially the ASP and Outlook examples Review: Having struggled with Outlook 98 development, I decided to pickup this book. The first thing I noticed is that it had a lot of code examples. The second thing I noticed it that the Outlook sample application in the book was actually very similar to something I was trying to program at the time. The code gave me a kick start for my programming as well as showing me some tips and tricks I didn't know Outlook could do. Highly recommended for any real Outlook developer or aspiring Exchange Server developer.
Rating: Summary: A must-have for Exchange/Outlook developers Review: I agree with all of the reviewers that have preceeded me on this page. The book is great in many, many ways. The real-world examples are wonderful, the text is easy to understand and the overall quality is exceptional. Unlike many technical books, this books does ramp up into very advanced topics by the end and I will be using some of the techniques immediately in my own development.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: I am often surprised by the low quality of technical books that I buy. It seems that the author tries to fill in as many pages as possible, and get it to press by some ridiculuous deadline. This book however stands in a class by its own. Excellent quality, there is no superfluous information. It explains complex concepts with simplicity. Congratulations to Thomas Rizzo.
Rating: Summary: 3rd Edition - Keeps getting better! Review: I bought the first two editions and were impressed with them. The depth of knowledge and the sample applications showed the author put time into digging into the intermediate to advanced topics on building on Microsoft's technologies. With the 3rd edition, I was blown away. It's huge and there is a lot of information to digest. Since I work with both Exchange/Outlook and SharePoint, I especially liked that this book covered both topics (download the SharePoint chapters from the website for the book!). If you are going to buy one book on developing on Microsoft's collaboration technologies, this is the one. I can't wait for the 4th edition.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Resource for any Exchange/Outlook Developer Review: I grabbed a copy of this book since I already had the first edition. I was very suprised that this version is over 200 pages longer than the first one and the first one was 750 pages! I especially liked the Exchange 2000 and Site Server development chapters. Be sure to look at the CD since it contains all the samples and some extra goodies for developers. Excellent book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent but not as good as 2nd Edition Review: I have both editions and they both are excellent resources. However, the 2nd edition has so much more information. If you need information on Exchange 2000, buy the 2nd Edition. Both copies are going to be broken in very well. Both thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Dashboard Content Was Out Of Date Before Release Review: I like this book. It has a good balance of breadth and depth for the amount of content covered. I give it a three star rating because of the complete lack of editorial planning with regard to the Digital Dashboard content. The content covered in Chapter 11 was out of date before the book went to press. This is sure to cause developer/market confusion as MS tries to position their new (and much cooler!) Digital Dashboard Resource Kit. Some may think that this content is not relevant.... but it will be. This book had the opportunity to be the first official trade-press coverage of the DDRK 2.0. So much for that opportunity!
Rating: Summary: Great for the novice and expert alike! Review: I must admint, I never understood how Exchange and Outlook would fit into my applications (I'm a SQL person). However, after reading this book, it opened my eyes to the possibilities of integrating both products into my existing solutions as well as building new collaboration solutions. The book is very in-depth, there are a lot of sample applications and it covers a breadth of topics including Exchange, Outlook, ADSI, SharePoint, Live Communications Server (which I never heard of before!) and other Microsoft technologies. It's a great resource for me and hopefully will be one for you.
Rating: Summary: Code Samples? Review: I picked up this book as it came highly recommended for developing CDO enabled Web Apps. Well, the code examples in the book are extremely poor and pretty much impossible to relate to your real life needs. Any book that discusses a Microsoft object-based technology without actually showing the included objects, their properties, methods, etc is a waste. You're better off using Microsofts online docs within their Knowledgebase and MSDN. I can't believe Microsoft let this book to get to press as their other MS Press books go into much more detail about their relative topics. I had to go online to find a list of the objects within the CDO library and their properties, object hierarchy etc. This book made my job harder as I wasted time looking for info within it that Microsoft already had on their website.
