Summary: Only one word comes to mind: ** WOW! **
Review: This is one book guaranteed not to end up on the bookshelf collecting dust. The only thing this book is missing is a belt clip, or a shoulder strap. If you work on an Active Directory network in any capacity, then this book will serve to be an invaluable asset.

Robbie Allen has discovered the secret of writing a book that bridges the gap between the administrators and developers. Robbie does an extraordinary job of demonstrating several ways of doing a task. There are dozens of scripts written in both perl and vbscript. Don't worry; if you do not consider yourself a scripter then you can utilize Robbie's examples of using the built-in UI's and command line utilities.

Many thanks,
Eddie Phillips

Summary: Great I guess if you write Visual Basic...I don't
Review: This was just not what I expected. I was looking for an in- depth book about all the ins and outs of AD, but this book is basically a book full of VB scripts. I am not a programmer, I am a System Admin.

Summary: A must have - don't admin AD without it!
Review: We are deploying AD at my company, and unfortunately, we are severely understaffed for AD support at this time. This book has been a life saver! Being able to script many of the things that I need to do has allowed me to retain my sanity and be more productive. I expect the pages to become tattered from use soon; it's the first place I look when I need a solution for something in AD. It is easy to understand and easy to find what I need.

Summary: A must for Active Directory Admins
Review: Well, I was searching for some time for a book as elaborative like this. I must admit that the writer has done a wonderful job in gathering all the stuff. This book has made my job easier.

The chapters and scripts are well formulated and they make life easy. The refrences given and the discussion is pretty helpfull. I would personally like to thank Mr. Allen for his fine accomplishment.

Summary: The wait is over !
Review: While there are a good number of decent AD related books out there, from my QA perspective, the AD Cookbook is a big boon. I picked up the book last weekend and am already saving hours of effort by automating many of the laborious and time consuming AD -UI activities. The book is very simple in terms of targeting individual segments of managing an AD setup and management like Users, domains,Sites, OUs, Groups and so on. You can flip the pages to right where you want to be and pick up a script without having to read the first 'n' pages of the book to know what the script means or is trying to do. There is no starting from the basic 'Hello World' and building an application around it from the beginning to the end of the book. The scripts stand out on their own and are independent of other samples.

In addition to the Vb and perl scripts provided in the book and accompanying website, there are also directions on implementing the same operation using the UI and command line. This should cover the entire domain of users who want to do anything or everything with their Active Directory Services.

I strongly recommend the book for system admins and other people who would like to manage their Active Directory, without having to delve through voluminous books where the information is there, but not visible to the 'conventional naked eye' or through tomes of documentation in MSDN.

Summary: FINALLY!
Review: WOW!

I have been searching the 'net for some simple examples of ADSI stuff. I am creating a system for an Internet Cafe to manage users and do accounting of printing etc. I need to make the user management tools, After seeing your examples I was able to get the first concrete example from your code. THANK YOU!

Review: You will be superbly happy with this book. Recommended to me by a Microsofter and I am extremely pleased. Examples for GUI, Command-line and VBScript. This is awesome Robbie! Keep up the hard work.
