Summary: Very clear writing style
Review: Fabulous book, I like the recipe format. If I see the code then I understand how it works and for me that is far better than reading 30 pages of explanation. I agree with the other reviewers, five stars. His homepage is a good source of info as well, http://www.rallenhome.com/

Summary: AD Automation
Review: For those interested in automating Active Directory tasks, Robbie Allen's book, Active Directory Cookbook, is the best book on the market. The book provides excellent organization in helping locate the programs needed for your tasks. All the AD recipes in the book provide three methods for accomplishing tasks you need. You can't go wrong with this book!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Serious about AD automation? got to have the Book.
Review: Great book, finally all in one AD admin\engineer scripting information source, well organized to the point helps me find what I need to automate.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Extremely useful book for Active Directory admins
Review: Having heard the prelease buzz on this book, I preordered it awhile ago. After all the praise it had been given by early reviewers, it wasn't exactly what I expected....it was EVEN BETTER. This is exactly the kind of practical, logically organized info I wish I'd had 3+ years ago. This is a must-have book for AD administrators, designers, and developers. Well Done!
Much of the book is organized in the format of Problem/Solution/Discussion/Reference. For each problem, the author shows how to solve it in three ways - via the GUI, via the command line, AND via scripting. He then explains why and how the solution works, and points you to reference material for further study. Very Nice.
If you've ever hunted for this kind of info and had to piece it together for yourself, you'll appreciate this book. If you haven't, you must be new to AD - in that case, this book will save you a lot of frustration up front. Both old hands and newbies will want this reference on their shelves.

Summary: there's actually something like this?
Review: Having just finish migrating from Novell 5.0 to Windows 2003, I have purchased 2 other books (Windows 2003 Administrator Companion and Windows 2003 Pocketbook), neither was able to provide the amount of Active Directory details as this book.

With this book, I am able to provide answers to frequently asked questions about active directory rather then going thru my list of newsgroups and forums. Thus far, I have found this book to be extremely useful for a windows 2003 administrator, especially those who deal with Active Directory on a daily basis.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very good help for administrators
Review: I bought the book "Active Directory Cookbook" a few weeks ago, and it is G R E A T. It explains a lot of functionalities, most of them often used when automatically administrating an MS AD-environment. Nevertheless the examples do not only explain how to use the interfaces via scripts (thanx for the perl examples), it also yields to good explanations, how the ADS and its fields are used. So this book is a good teacher of using ADS via scripting.

Summary: Novice - Great! _OR_ PowerUser - (Still) Great Book
Review: I consider my having been around "in the field" for a few(?) years but "in this field" things change on a daily basis. Beginning to work with MS'AD I found myself needing guidance with their implentation of LDAP.

For ME, it only took reviewing a few pages of O'Rielly's/Mr Allen's Active Directory Cookbook to realize it's exactly what I needed.

For a novice, the writing seems like it never gets too technical. For someone who has a bit of background with OS', Networking, and LDAP, there is more than enough information that satisfies. Certainly took care of my needs.

(Nope, I don't own stock in O'Reilly.)

Summary: Simply the best
Review: I could write a long review enumerating all the qualities of this book, but let's keep it short: I've read a lot of AD related literature and this book is the best out there.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Book
Review: I find this book is very helpful to my work with Active Directory programming, there are more than 300 recipes you can just simply copy and use in your project directory. This is a great book for Active Directory programmer who wants to get a jumpstart on performing certain tasks.
There is no CD with this book,
