Rating: Summary: Dry, Dry, and still more Dry Review: I'd rather eat the pages of this book for lunch and swallow them without a glass of water than read any further from this bone-dry book. I found the humor in the book more iritating than helpful, and the expanse of long drawn-out paragraphs with very few visual aids proved this to be the worst Photoshop book I've laid my hands on.I strongly reccomend the Photoshop WOW! series, as well as Down and Dirty Tricks.... great for beginners who would appreciate tons of full-color visual tutorials and examples. Glass of drinking water optional :)

Rating: Summary: John Nemerovski MyMac.com Book Review Review: I'm saving the best for last, so I hope you're still reading! Deke McClelland sets the standard for Photoshop authors, and MyMac.com plans to cover every item he publishes on the topic. What makes this Dummies entry into the Photoshop 7 arena worth raving about? Two pages (four sides) of card stock are the first items you encounter when opening Photoshop 7 for Dummies. These quick reference "cheat sheets" present separate Windows and Macintosh keyboard commands for toolbars, selections, layers, palettes, and more. Worth a hefty portion of the price of this book, all on their own. These authors write with a zippy, witty style that makes learning and using Photoshop fun (almost) and enjoyable (always). Did you know about "Dr. Photo and Mr. Shop"? If not, you need to begin with Chapter One and turn off the phone until you understand the difference. Both Windows and Mac (OS X) screen shots are plentiful, making this book truly cross platform. Illustrations are bold and easy on the eyeballs, and tutorial steps are printed in bold type. Why don't other publishers realize how important printing and inking are to readers learning difficult material from scratch? You want tips? How about warnings? Photoshop 7 for Dummies has them in profusion, on page after page. Special mention is given to each feature new to Photoshop 7, for all you upgraders. The brief color section has some mind-expanding examples of projects enumerated within the text. I'm having a difficult time maintaining focus on this review, friends, because I'm itching to use the book to help me learn tons more about Photoshop 7. So let's stop here, with our highest recommendation of MacMice Rating: 5 out of 5. Bravo, Deke and Barbara. Thanks for your terrific book. WOULD I BUY IT? Yes, and give it as a gift. WOULD I USE IT IF IT WAS THE ONLY PHOTOSHOP BOOK AVAILABLE? We should be so lucky! DO I RECOMMEND IT? Ubetcha. http://www.mymac.com/book_bytes/fiveps7_12.6.02.shtml
Rating: Summary: Don't Like It!!! Review: If you buy this book with the expectations of learning Photoshop, forget about it. The book just dosen't capture your attention, it makes you more confused then you were before you bought it. The authors try and make you learn by using old fashioned pictures and cartoons, a good idea, but it dosen't work. I really tried for about 2 weeks to learn Photoshop, with the help of this book. I learned more by navigating the program by myself. I don't like this book.

Rating: Summary: Assumes too much Review: In some parts they assume to much, it misses steps or suddenly introduces new words out of nowhere as if you knew the program. The other thing that its not visual at all, a ton of things could have been explained much easier and faster using visuals. I mean I did find it useful but probably because I read it all, however it was kind of annoying how they tend to forget who their audience is.
Rating: Summary: Photoshop is powerful software but... Review: it's a bit difficult to use. This book is a great bargain at the price if you are a Photoshop beginner. The writing here is clear and short of an expensive course or video series, you couldn't do much better to get started than get this book to learn Photoshop. Will you need more later on to get proficient at Photoshop? Yes, probably. But here is a great way for beginners to dive in.
Rating: Summary: Annoying Review: Like almost all Dummies books, this one spends WAY too much time trying to be funny and cute, and not enough time cutting to the chase. For every paragraph that teaches you how to use a tool, you have to read 2 paragraphs of absolutely mindless dribble, that isn't even funny. I used to buy dummies books just because the choice of books can be overwhelming. Now that I've realized (for me anyways) that there are so many better books out there, I will never buy another one again. I guess, they title them appropriately. I highly recommend other books like Lynda Wieman's books, which are succinct in prose, and very effective.
Rating: Summary: Bad instruction. Bad examples. Bad book!! Review: Look out folks!! Bad book alert! Not only is most of this book a regurgitation of the Dummies book for PS 5.0, but that was bad to begin with. Considering the myriad of other PS 6 books out there, this one is plain old bad. Confusing examples and chapters, some wrong information every so often, and pages that leave you wondering how th eheck to do some functions. Skip this and get "Adobe Classroom in a Book for PS 6."
Rating: Summary: I'm not that dumb Review: On technical merit alone this is a good beginners book. However, while I usually enjoy the casual tone of for Dummies books this one just goes too far. The authors' allusions are silly, sometimes even patronizing and clutter up the message. I ended up scanning most of the pages trying to find the real information. If the authors had cut out all their cute little touches the book could have been half the size and twice as effective. I would recommend this book only in conjunction with buying another Photoshop book that sticks to the subject.
