Summary: Hmmmm ...
Review: Even in it's 9th printing, this (retail $45 soft-back!) book has far too many typos and errors in it than one would expect from the master of C++ himself. Was the book rushed to press or was Dr. Stroustrup simply bored?

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good book
Review: The layman cannont comment on this book. It is for professionals and it from the Creator of C++. This is a book of standards as are RFCs. You cannot insult RFCs and you cannot insult this book. After you are a good programmer you read this book to excel further. so, I recommend this book for expert programmers and as a high school / university text book.

Summary: Excellent material but not a tutorial
Review: I enjoyed C++ Programming Language but it takes some time to grasp all the concepts presented. I understand that this was to have been more of a tutorial than previous editions but I question that. The author gives a brief example of a particular topic without much explanation and then moves on to the next leaving much assumption to the reader. His tone at time takes on a "but of course you would have know that already, right?" kind of attitude even when his point may not be completely clear. Now I've read several C++ books and am what I would consider myself an avid C++ programmer. As such, I was able to eventually make sense of most everything. However, I would not recommend this book to someone who has no previous background in C++. The tone and style are definitely more suited to someone with prior experience in C++. One very nice thing about the book, though, was the author's insight into the language itself and it's evolution. Very nice.

Summary: Good on a conceptual scale, not on a syntax scale.
Review: This book gives a good conceptual view of C++ and object oriented design. But for syntax reference, it is insufficient. It is a Programmer's Manual, and would be very useful to have a Reference Manual to match it.

Summary: Non usable book except for professional C++ grogrammer
Review: This book is not organized for ease of quick look up. Definitely a disaster for a beginner in C++ even with C and Java background.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best ever a book written on any programming language
Review: One of the best ever written book on any programming language. Highly comprehensive, cover most of all the features of C++ language. Not recommended for beginers in C++. This book is best for who are having very good back ground of programming languages and studied various programming languages. Would be difficult to absorb for non-software engineer background.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Poorly written and not well organized but good text..
Review: I think that the author rushed in creating this book because it was poorly written. The code examples in the book are not well put togeter they are scattered throughout the place. I highly do no recomend this book to a beg in c++ programming. The book is also good for refrence, But I have to rate this book as a 4 because the author acomplished his job by explaining to you what and how to implement the langauge into your program. I would given this book a 5 but it was poorly written. Oh well we hope that the new edition if the author creates one will be better .

Summary: Experienced Programmers only, please.
Review: Excellent book, the code examples really make you think. Unfortunatly, the book is far above the novice level, and should not be marketed to beginners. If you are a hobbyist or professional programmer, then this book is indispensible. If you are just learning C++, you may be better off finding an easier book.

Summary: a must-have C++ book
Review: I've bought some C++ books and tried to learn the language quickly. However, it seemed to me that each book explains things differently. Finally, I've got this book, and found that this book is the only reliable C++ book, let alone having been authored by its inventor.

Summary: Uncle Barney does it again!
Review: When this book came out, my programming partner carried it around like his bible. He constantly qutoed from it, almost to the point of annoyance. A few years later, I have picked up both a love of the Standard C++ library, and also of advanced design techniques of C++. Yes, I was converted!

Stroustrups writing style is excellent, he points out situations where he was incorrect in the past, and gives excellent "Advice" summaries in the end of his chapters. While he covers a great range of material, the pages are thin with small type. :)

I love his writing style, and the advanced techniques within have made me a very effective C++ programmer and designer.
