Summary: Excellent
Review: How can you go wrong with a book by the person who wrote C? This book is amazing. It is only 274 pages but the text and the examples are clear and concise. They explain everything you need to know. This book is the ultimate reference and if you're willing to work hard it also makes an outstanding tutorial as well.

Summary: This is _the_ C book
Review: This book is the absolute best book on C (...on anything?) that I have ever read. This book is extremely to the point and does a good job of telling you what you need to know. Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie did a supurb job on this one. (In case you didn't know Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson developed UNIX. Brian Kerninghan and Dennis Ritche developed C so these guys have been around) I can say with absolute honesty that this is the best C book that has ever graced my bookshelf.

Summary: Great if dense reference book
Review: For experienced programmers, this book provides the day to day reference information that keeps businesses afloat. This is not a book from which to learn C due to the lack of examples and thorough explanation. A great compromise book is Kelly and Pohls "A Book On C" which maintains the reference like compact-ness (no 1000 page manual here) while offering enough examples and explanations to effectively assist the novice programmer. Kelly and Pohl get 5 stars.

Summary: An essential bok for every C/C++ programmer.
Review: This book has been referred to as the "the K&R book".

I first read this book when I took my first programming class in school. 12 years later, and I still use it as a reference occasionally.

I recommend this book for everyone who is a C/C++ programmer. You might say that you don't need this if you only do C++ programming, but this will help you to understand the foundations of how C and C++ work.

If I was only allowed to have one programming book, this would be the one to get.

This book is like the bible of C programming. If you ever have a dispute with a collegue over a C programming issue, this book will help you solve your argument.

If you ever have to interview for a C programming job, and you just want to brush up on things, this is the book to buy.

Summary: The Best Ever, For All The Languages Existing in The World!
Review: Once upon a time, I found this book in a library somewhere, I picked it up and fell in love with it. And couldn't wait to buy myself a copy.

And, as far as I have read, this is definitely the best book on any language, not just programming language (as I have read a lot of book the teach Spanish & German, and still can't find any that as good as this book :-)

Buy this book if you are a programmer, not just C programmer, but any language. As a C++ and Java programmer, I found this book very helpful with a lot of things. It might be difficult in the first place, but once you understand it, you will find yourself in a new world fo programming.

Summary: The C Bible - no Question
Review: This is probably the greatest introductory programming world ever written!

This is the classic "how to program" book. The book may seem quite old, but so is C, so you'll not miss anything. Half of the other introductory books written today will often quote this book, especially in reference to the "hello, world." example contained within. The "K&R" is well known among programmers as the all-time classic programming book - for any language.

If you read through this book, I promise that you'll find it easy to grasp with a pace that will not bore you to tears.

For those of you just starting off, remember that this is not a C++ book. You may not want to use Visual C++ 6.0 with this book. Instead, you can download a DOS based C compiler from wwwdeloriecom. I believe you'll find that compiler much more appropriate for learning C with this book, and best of all, it's FREE. After this book, you should have very little trouble adapting your knowledge to C++ and the Visual C++ 6.0 IDE.

Summary: The Bible of C.
Review: This book is like an excllent wine. The more you learn (C++, Java) the more you realize K&R's "white book" (I call it fondly) is probably one of its kind in the computer programming realm.

Summary: 1 of only 2 C books you really need
Review: I'm sure I can't add much to all the other reviews.

Hands down, this is the book for you if you have some previous programming experience and want to learn C. Complete novices will want a more hand-holding approach that will explain how to operate the compiler and so forth. (Sorry, I can't make any recommendations there.)

I learned C in 1992 using this book, which is at once mercifully short, well-written, and authoritative. It is also surprisingly complete and can serve well as a reference after you've learned.

I prefer C: A Reference Manual for that, though. C: ARM is more complete, detailed, and better organized for reference. It is also legendary for accuracy.

Summary: Best EVER, in ANY Language (not just programming language!)
Review: I read this book several years ago, and it is the BEST book on any language I've ever read. Actually, I'm not a C programmer, but a C++, and I never attemp to learn C. Anyway, it's not C that I learned from this book. What I learned from this book was HOW TO PROGRAM, which is more important than the language. If you really want to be a programmer, this is the book you MUST read, at least TWICE in your life. :-)

PS. To those who prefered the "For Dummies" books, you will never become anything else, but a dummy. Try reading this one after finish those, OK? :-)

Summary: Of course, you can't learn C just by reading this book :o)
Review: You have to sit down and do some programming!

This book is awesome, simple, well-written. It is THE book about C! When I first read it, I had no idea about Programming in C, but I learned faster than I had expected. Perfect for beginners and experienced C programmers. Of course, it is not a book that takes you by the hand and guides you with small examples and stupid exercises. This is not its purpose.

It is a book that explains the principles of C language.-
