Rating: Summary: great book Review: This book is the best book I have found on using photoshop with digital images. It is not a photography book but a digital darkroom book. I have learned more about photoshop from this book than 10 others.
Rating: Summary: Five stars and beyond! Review: I read about this book on the sportshooters.com website, a sports photo arena for serious sports photographers. This book is a gem. I already have several photoshop books and have been to the Nikon digital and Epson seminars which were great, but this book puts tips and techniques at your fingertips in a heartbeat. Each chapter provides at least one "aha" moment that you can put into use immediately. How to make a poster size enlargement from a small digital file by the "110% technique" is the best explanation that I have ever seen, and I've researched that topic extensively. Buy this book!
Rating: Summary: Beyond wonderful! Review: I have used Photoshop since it was "Barneyscan" a proprietary program for a late 1980's slide scanner.Yesterday this book arrived, and I was enthralled--it is not only beautifully written--in plain English instead of Technical-ese--but the step-by-steps are complete ... you don't have to be really conversant with the program to follow them. Within fifteen minutes I found a tip I used immediately (and that by 8 pm last night had saved me the price of the book!) The title is too restrictive. This should be called The Photoshop Book for Everyone Who Uses Photoshop! Thank you, Mr. Kelby!
Rating: Summary: The most USEFUL Photoshop book I've ever found Review: I've also not written a review before, but had to write a review here just to praise this book. It gives practical steps on real world examples. I constantly found myself saying, "So THAT'S how they do that!" And the humor was even fun to see...as I dug in, doing each example because I refused to go to bed since I was so excited, my shoulders hunched, my brow furrowed in concentration, and then he would lighten the mood --which reminds you that it's also a lot of fun. It's almost as if he is sitting by my side, guiding me through. I learned more using this book than I have in two photoshop courses, altho to be fair, the courses usually concentrate on the "this is a brush tool and this is the clone tool". Yeah, yeah, I know all that, but how do I USE it to make something that looks like *THIS*?! Scott explains that, and more in terms of the practical use of the tool. It would be useful if you know a little about Photoshop (any previous version) just to be somewhat familiar with the "menu" location of some of the tools and keyboard shortcuts that Scott uses frequently throughout the book (probably about 65%), but the tradeoff is that by consistently using the shortcuts, you wind up memorizing it anyway, and it saves you time. Regardless, even if you don't have any previous experience with Photoshop, you will hit the ground running by using this book. I'm not affiliated with Scott Kelby, but I will bear his children....he has only but to ask.... (ok, I was kidding about that last part....:-).
Rating: Summary: Great, even if you aren't a pro... Review: The Editorial Review begins: "Finally, a Photoshop book that is written expressly for professional photographers and hi-end serious amateurs that doesn't talk about F-stops, exposures, and how to frame a shot (you know all that stuff already-if you don't-I hate to say it, but this isn't for you). " I don't know any of that stuff about F-stops, exposures, etc., but this book absolutely IS for me. I'm not a professional photographer, but I am on my third digital camera. I've worked my way up, over the last 4 years, from beginner photo manipulation software, through Photoshop Elements to Photoshop itself. I use Photoshop because it does the things I need to do. What Scott Kelby's book did was show me some of the less obvious ways to get things done. Some of the easier ones were amazing. This is an excellent book that is intended for anyone who has a copy of Photoshop and needs to get digital photos fixed. It is very accessable. You can open it anywhere and follow the steps in any chapter and successfully adjust your own photos using Scott Kelby's instructions. He designed the book so each chapter is independent and none of them require that you read the chapters before it to understand what he is trying to accomplish. If you can follow along with the pictures, you can do what he is teaching. He believes in lots of screen shots and even though his screen shots show Macs and I'm using a PC, Photoshop is Photoshop and I can follow along. He gives both the PC and the Mac commands for every Keyboard shortcut he uses. This is great for me because I generally need to learn something that is buried in the middle of the book, and I don't have the time or patience to read four or five chapters to understand how to get it done. I own several Photoshop books, and I've never seen some of the techniques he teaches in those other books. He also teaches some advanced general Photoshop techniques and he makes those easy to understand too. Worth every penny...
Rating: Summary: Simply the Best Review: The best PS book I've seen so far and I own a lot of different PS books. I can't see myself buying any other book on this subject - there's simply no need to.
Rating: Summary: This Is THE Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers! Review: Here, at last, is a book that give you direct straight forward information and step-by-step instruction on digital photo editing. I have piles of Photoshop books and this one outdoes them all. If you use a digital camera and Photoshop, you should have this book. Scott Kelby has done it!
Rating: Summary: Better to start with Photoshop Elements 2 Review: The author is really intrusive -- he keeps flashing his big ego, name dropping, telling long rambling pointless tales, making stupid and irrelevant attempts at humor. Procedures are spelled out at extreme length, with anything but the most basic stuff marked "Advanced, for Pros Only". At least two thirds of the space on most pages is taken up by the same photos repeated over and over, with little visible difference between photos. If you were a professional photographer about to try digital photography, you'd be better to start with Photoshop Elements 2 and the two books Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions (a really complete introduction to -- and overview of -- the power of PE2), and The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 2 (a detailed, in-depth introduction to the theory and practice of professional image retouching, with CD of software "power tools" to unlock virtually all the power of Photoshop, which is hidden in Photoshop Elements).
Rating: Summary: A real printed miracle! Review: I've never writen a review on here before. But after receiving this book I was compelled to get on the top of my desk, jump up and down 500 times and tell you that if you take pictures, and use or want to use Photoshop, this book is more important than the computer you use. YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS BOOK!!! It is the greatest Photoshop book for photographers ever published in the entire world. It is the best money spent, ever! In literally two hours time I did things with a photograph that others have not done after spending thousands on courses. This is a gem. I keep it next to me anytime I'm working. The way it's layed out, illustrated with color photographs, and giving you the detailed insider information you need is nothing short of miraculous. Again, don't hesitate. BUY THIS BOOK TODAY. I have nothing to do with Scott or the publisher, or Amazon, but if you don't find it everything I say it is, I'll personally refund your money out of my own pocket.
Rating: Summary: Key to fabulous digital output Review: I have had an Epson 2000P printer since it first came out and have never been able to get a print that I was satisfied with, so I bought an Epson 2200, and again could not get a print I liked. This book gave me the settings I needed to get absolute beautiful color from both my printers. I am absolutely thrilled! Scott has also made retouching photos so incredibly easy, compared with the dozen other Photoshop books I've bought in the past. He has gotten straight to the heart of digital output. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
