Summary: Adobe Does it Again!
Review: I am in the process of switching over from a PC and Paint Shop Pro to a Mac with Photoshop 7 - This book has been exactly what I was looking for! Very detailed and lots of notes for shortcuts, etc. I highly recommend it for first time Photoshop users, as well as long time Photoshop users.

Summary: Good book for beginners
Review: I am learning photoshop for the first time by myself and this is a good book for beginners like me. The book lays out step by step instructions for me to work on. On the CD are the practice images with an image of what your picture is supposed to look like to see if you did it right. Why I couldn't give it 5 stars is that as someone mentioned earlier, the pictures in the books with the exception of a few inserts are not in color. The other drawback is that the book guides you through the steps but doesn't always explain what the buttons and things your using do - for example I'm currently working on lesson 8 and the step I'm working on says "In the layers palette, select the Bark layer (in the tree layer set), and then select New Layer from the Layers palette menu. (Don't use the New Layer button this time.)" It didn't explain why not to use this button this time. Sometimes I feel like I'm just going through the steps and not learning anything but overall it's a good book to famiarize yourself with photoshop.

Summary: Photoshop 7
Review: I found it impossible to unlock the files in Windows. As a result I am unable to save files for use later. The instructions for the manner in which to unlock the files was not clear to me.
Which brings up the question, why are the files automatically locked in the Windows format but unlocked in Mac? Perhaps we will never know.
The text is well written, save for the above complaint. If you are wise enough to know the procedure to unlock files, you would greatly benefit from this book.

Summary: Very Good Beginers Book On Photoshop 7
Review: I found this book to be a very good start in learning Photoshop 7. The apporach to the book, I thought, was a little bit cookbook, but really, for a start this is probably a good thing. It gives you alot of knowledge on the basic, yet powerful features of Photoshop. I think first time users would benefit the most from this book, I really don't see it as one for a more advanced user. The text is easy to read and the instructions easy to follow. I found no major errors in editing. I recommend this text for the beginning Photoshop user knowing that when you are done with it, you will need to move on to another for more in depth learning.

Summary: better than expected
Review: I had to get this book for class. In the past most books i've had to get for class has always ... and I usually get another book to go with it. This book kept my attention from cover to cover and I feel I've learned some valuable lessons because of it. It's a great book for beginners, or the novice who knows the basics of photoshop. I highly recommend this book if you are serious about getting started with Photoshop!!

Summary: great book to start with
Review: I opened this book and the program for the first time at the same time. Having said that I can say that this is a very good book to start off with. If you really want to get in depth, you will have to go elsewhere. At least that is how I see it as a beginner. There were areas that I got stuck on and areas that could have been better but I would still recommend it to anyone just starting out. It teaches you the basics and from there you can go to more complicated books that go more in depth.

Summary: Photoshop 7.0 Classroom in a Book.
Review: I would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to become more proficient with PhotoShop. Especially beneficial to students beginning in the field of design. Classes move quickly it is easy to fall behind or to feel at a disadvantage because you do not have a firm grasp of the program.
With Adobe Photoshop Classroom in a Book you are allowed to review and repeat lessons until you are comfortable with the lesson. I recommend after the lesson applying what you have learned to an outside project.
These self paced lessons give you the benefit of a hands on, learn as you go approach. Extremely beneficial for visual learners!!

Summary: Excellent resource
Review: I'm fairly new to PS and what I've learned can be attributed to this book. I thought it an easy read and very functional. I just followed it thru chapter to chapter. Highly recommend it for new to intermediate users. I tried a few other books but so far I like this the best for learning most of the tools and building your skills.

Summary: Book is awesome, well thought out and put together!!!
Review: I'm very new to Photoshop but an experienced web developer. I was looking for a very good book to get me into Photoshop because every time I loaded the software I just shut it down because I was so intimidated ...

No online tutorials made me comfortable enough with the software but I always really wanted to learn. I said enough is enough and thought I would get training straight from the source (Adobe).

This book is EXACTLY what I was looking for! It's straight tutorial based but does not lack the concept-explanation approach. You work with Start and End examples off the CD to learn. This is perfect. This method is very intuitive.

*
And what's more is that the tutorials aren't tutorials on how to do various tricks that leave u in the dark about the essentals. Somehow the book is set up so that the tutorials teach u the essential concepts of Photoshop through doing tricks!
*

So u learn the concepts that enable you to really use the software as it's truly needed and used while learning some cool tricks.

For the first time I'm actually using Photoshop doing things I thought I would never be able to.

The book is well thought out and put together. You will get every penny's worth out of the book. If u are new to photoshop then please get this book. Then delve into other books that harp on specific approaches and methodologies.
