Summary: Complexity presented in a fun and easy way!
Review: Fun to read, easy to understand, and great examples and fun solutions. Robin Williams really makes something rather complex easy and interesting. Once I opened it, I didn't close it, and I probably never will, no matter how good I get. This is a book for anyone interested in layout, not only for the "visual novice".

Summary: Great book for beginners
Review: The Non-Designer's Design Book was required for a QuarkXPress course I took in graduate school. And since then, I have referred back to the book several times to design newsletters and brochures. The book relays design principles in a clear concise way, and is a great refresher.

Summary: Delivers what it promises!
Review: I help organizations establish their own multimedia teams and have been wondering for some time how to teach "ordinary computer users" (with no creative background) to create professional looking multimedia projects.

Well, although this book was meant for the print media, I still found it outstanding as a tool to teach non-creative background multimedia designers basic design concepts that really make their projects look more proefessional.

So, if you are developing multimedia/web-site projects, THIS BOOK IS A MUST FOR YOU TOO!

Keep up the good work!

Edwin Wong

Summary: outstandingly written and tremendously useful!
Review: The author lives her own principles: the book is living proof that her visual design techniques work! It is easy to read, enjoyable to use and the results of applying it will earn you comments from your peers like "I didn't know you were such a talented visual designer!".

Summary: This may be the single most useful book I own.
Review: This book contains clear examples of fundamental design principles that everyone who has ever put pen to paper (or mouse to mousepad) should know. In an entertaining and accessible style, the author patiently explains the tenets of graphic design that are so often a mystery to desktop publishers--when we se a printed page, we know what we like, but not why. After reading this book, you will know why, and that will give you the power to create engaging, appealing printed documents.

Summary: Easily understood and invaluable.
Review: Although,I'm not a graphics designer, I needed to gain some insight into that field in order to create professional, sophisticated, pleasant, and pleasing web pages for myself and my company. A poor presentation is worse than no presentation at all. This little book solved the problem with humor and understanding. The examples are clear, the writing concise, and the lessons easily learned. Many thanks to Robin Williams who is obviously a wonderful teacher.

Summary: Great Book for a novice like me
Review: The before and afters in this book and then the explanations of the underlying concepts are this book's greatest strength. Good for anyone like me that can use a word processor but has no idea about design principles. You'll go back to it time and time again.

Review: This is "the" book for a new designer. It has taught me some things and helped me with my job.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent starter book for the novice desktop publisher.
Review: This book gives a basic introduction to fundamental design principles without talking down to the novice designer. It is easy to read and gives extremely helpful illustrated examples of each of the "four basic principles".
