Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Highly recommended! Review: I have had the privilege of watching Issac speak and teach on his subject and I highly recommend this classic book. It is a soup to nuts, up-to-the-minute overview of 3D and Effects by one of the industry's most knowledgeable pros. He has updated the chapter on digital production with multiple production pipelines and has some really excellent advice about preparing demo reels. Issac is a fine teacher as well as a compelling writer. Highly recommended.Ed Hooks Acting for Animators
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: excelent CG Bible. Review: I think that this book gives an excellent and in depth review of the CG Animation World. Yes, two chapters are about the history of CG: they will tell you where you come from and make you understand better where you are now. I don't know who this hwilliamsx comes from, and what he is doing in VA, I'm an Animation Supervisor working at Imageworks for the past seven years and I am a Faculty Member at Calarts for three, my personal opinion is that this book is a must have. Third Edition speak by itself. Good work Isaac.

Review: I've read a number of books about 3d aniamtion and design and this is the best one I have found so far. Goes over all the terminology and technology from the beginnings for 3d to present day. A great reference book for anyone in the field. Make sure you buy the recent edition though.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The best. Pure and simple... Review: In short, this is the best introduction to any area of CGI/3D animation, no matter where your field of interest lies (games, film etc.). Damn, it is good. It is not software specific, which normally can be a bother, if you are working only in one package, but in this case the book is so well written and structured, that it is just a joy to go through.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Very Disappointed... Review: Normally, I wouldn't comment on books that I have purchased, but this book fell way short of my expections. If you a beginner to the 3d arena then this book will give you a lot of general information regarding how the 3d world evolved and is still growing. For intermediate and advance users SAVE YOUR MONEY. The first few charpters are devoted to the history of computer animation and the computer industry. Look, if you don't know how to use a computer by now. Why would you be buying a book on computer animation. Instead you should be buying a book on how to use a computer and what components make up a computer. Very poor organizational structure through out the book, when I would read a sentence or paragraph and it refrence a fig #, I found myself going back and forth a few pages to locate the item he was speaking of and it continued throughout the book. This became very cumbersome and annoying after a while. I could go on for hours about my disappoint but I'm sure you get the point. Most of the things discuss in this book are general terms that you can find in many 3d books on the market, as well as the web and your 3d manual that shipped with your 3d software. Nothing in this book is specific, so be warned. One other thing, his website is a joke. www.artof3d.com Nothing inspiring at all, and very amateurish to say the least. I gave it one star for beginners only.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Lacks depth Review: This book really only covers a general concept of the computer animation field. For people wanting to just unearth the mere basics and lingo, the glossary at the end of each chapter might be useful. Besides that, the book lacks any real depth to the topics discussed, and is rather disappointing when these terms are freely available online. The "Getting Ready" tips for each section was laughable, written with the assumption that readers lack common sense. Furthermore, the unorganized structure of the book meant the referenced picture in the text is in MOST cases a few pages away. My 1 star goes to the coloured pictures and the glossary.
