Rating: 4 stars
Summary: High adventure
Review: Morse is creating an epic that uses some of the great standards of fantasy -- magic swords, outer space, rayguns, talking animals, robots -- and gives them new vitality. He also injects genuine emotion into the story. For example, the protagonist is a young boy shanghaied from Earth to the other side of the universe, to help overthrow an evil empire. The boy enjoys playing the role of "space captain." He thinks he will get to go home for supper, but the odds are poor that he will ever see his family or his home again. The only criticism? The story gets confusing at a couple of points. It could be difficult for someone unfamiliar with comics fiction. But another reading made everything clear for me, though. And new readers will want to give the book another look, just to admire the art, a fantastic black-and-white style.
