Rating: 4 stars
Summary: contains some of the best Spidey vs. Green Goblin(Harry)....
Review: "SPIDER-MAN: SON OF THE GOBLIN" TP by Gerry Conway, David Michelinie & J.M. DeMatteis/ Ross Andru, Todd McFarlane & Sal Buscema. A constitution of 5 old, single comics. Emanated from Amazing Spider-man #136-137, #312, Spectacular Spider-man #189 & #200.

Moralistic, faintly psychological in delivery, deep, wrenching & tearing assembly of some of the best threads of Harry Osborne bold strokes as the sick Green Goblin. Unique & personal-- of Harry's take, successing his father's mantle being Spider-man prime villain-- the Green Goblin. Colossal classics all that will endure the swirling tests of time & simultaneously, an obliging comic book to espouse for intermediate fans. **** constitutes 144, complete, inside pages, softcover, full-color & in the same comic book size.

Review on Amazing Spider-man #136 & #137. This is the crossroad that had foreshadowed Harry's fate all along during those days gone by & indeed, his genesis of a foray breaking as the new Green Goblin. A gross, pretty tale, just like the art by Ross Andru. Classical in scope & significant in magnitude that shall be, if yet to found its rightful place of educing some of the most splendid Harry Osborne/the Green Goblin jewels in the Spider-man mythos.

A decompressed storytelling of an end-result that gives us, yet, another interesting & happy look to Peter Parker and Mary Jane platonic friendship that seems to evoke to those yonder Stan Lee's yesteryears.

Review on Amazing Spider-man #312. A satisfactory yarn, albeit the artwork is so-so, muddled, mishmashed & cartoony. From the outset, I deeply detest McFarlane's art even no less many are readers do not mumble a word at all, let alone criticize. I rather prefer proper, realistic, clean, meticulously panelled & pretty artwork. The writer, David Michelinie, in this issue, affixes Harry/the Green Goblin as the centerpiece player, while Spidey a background token for a change, with the Green Goblin raising mighty hell against the breaching Hobgoblin-- with lurking results of personal war, maximum tolerance & ugly vendetta. A good & lenghty characterization & exploration of Harry's Green Goblin that definitely a treasure in the insular veins of Spider-man/Green Goblin rich history.

Reviews on Spectacular Spider-man #189 & #200. These pair of opuses penned by J.M. DeMatteis stress qualities-- soap opera-likes, domestic setting & drama over simplistic, action-oriented episodes. The players are the seething Harry Osborne, the genteel & exasperated Osborne family such as Liz, Normie & Mark Raxton, & of course not to mention the highly-distressed Peter Parker & Mary Jane.

The writer cannily steers to the path of Harry tormenting Peter Parker by threatening to reveal his secret identity of Spider-man to the public. Harry sarcastically plays to this vanity, with him violently flings to capitalize this aperture which causes Peter to suffer infinite harms & irreparable gashes. Of course, Spidey triumps in the end after a run of scary & brutal stabs, but at what price- where Harry, Peter's best friend, paid tragedically. J.M. DeMatties once again serves an illuminating mix of fragments of moralistic & philosophical point-of-view clashes from both sides-- the Parkers(Peter & MJ) & the Osbornes.

J.M. DeMatteis is one of the two most prolific Spider-man scribers, behind only to the irrepressible Stan Lee. Here are his glowing moments during his Spider-man's tenure.

.His Spectacular Spider-man run(#178-200). Grand, captures justly Spidey's psychological make-up, & a beaming rejuvenation of some of Spidey's most fearsome foes.

.The "Child Within" arc (from Spectacular Spider-man). Stands as one of Spider-man's greatest stories ever told, let alone DeMatteis' best effort to date. Spidey pits against Harry's Green Goblin & Vermin.

."Kraven's Last Hunt" TP(from a 6-part Spider-man comic crossover). Utterly psychological, striking, & Kraven the Hunter's best story told. Very Kraven, & his most saturating character portrayal ever conceived.

.His Amazing Spider-man run(starting #391). Produces the quenching "Shrieking" arc, a beautiful & superior tale. This run also yields the unfathomable bad guy "Judas Traveller", his brainchild of Spider-man's supposed-to-be ultimate supervillain. I deeply concur. Not the Green Goblin, nor Doc Ock, or evn Venom, in my opinion.

Overall, a pleasurable purchase, important enough, & good to keep...

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
