Rating: Summary: Excellent webcomic brought to book form Review: I first discovered Megatokyo several years ago and have been an avid reader since. When the book came out, I had to have it so that I read it off line.Megatokyo is about the trials and tribulations of two Americans, Piro and Largo, in Tokyo. To say more would take away from the enjoyment of the comic. Sometimes what happens pushes the bounds of plausibility and other times it just plain ignores reality. Unlike other comics, not every page has a punch line or joke; sometimes it is just an observation of what is going on. The comic has really grown since the early days, both in content and in graphical style. The early comics look rough in comparison to the later ones. Also the early comics are presented in a square format, while the later ones are more rectangular. This would normally cause a blank space on the bottom of the page, but this has been filled with a running commentary from the artist/author Piro. If you like anime/video games/computer humor or want to immerse yourself in a deep storyline this is one book that you can't go wrong with.
Rating: Summary: Megatokyo = Best Freaking Doujinshi Ever. Review: I love Megatokyo. It's simply the best webcomic/manga/doujinshi. If you do not buy this, I will hunt yo down and torment you until you do. The characters are great, the art is wonderful, and best of all: it has a good storyline.
Rating: Summary: No save points Review: I read this, and then I read the new stuff, and I realize how vital Rodney Caston, AKA Largo, was to everything that is Megatokyo. While the art continues to improve with every post, Gallagher has slowly taken away the gamer humor, the Largo humor, and Junpei the l33t ninj4. All that's left is anime jokes, and more angst per square inch than anyone deserves. It's declined, similar to the painfully drastic decline of Sluggy Freelance. So I look at this, almost nostalgically, as a reminder of what it once was, and what it should be now. From an artistic standpoint, the evolution of Fred Gallagher as an artist is simply incredible. It's like comparing Pat Lee's independent work to his more recent work on transformers, warlands, and whatever he bought the liscense to this week, although the progress is compressed into such a small amount of time that it makes me wonder how good he'll be at this point next year. Gallagher is practically bleeding talent, although he has such a high BAC (blood angst content) that the fact that he hasn't intruduced a shotgun to his head is one of those things i will never be able to explain. He tries to make us all feel bad for him by insulting himself, and in the end, all he does is make us want to stop reading. Is this perfect? Lord, no. But is it incredible compared to what it is slowly becoming? Absolutely. Fred, please don't let us down. Get out a bit. Play a few rounds of CS. Actually have fun on your trips this year. And if nothing else, we need new gamer humor. How about something about X-box live in japan? PS3 hype? Nintendo-bashing? The fact that there wasn't even a mild N-Gage slam is amazing to me, considering how MT used to be a comic about games, to an extent. Here's the extent now: they exist. Bring back the funny, and get out a bit.
Rating: Summary: Chapter Zero the best Review: If you have read any of Fred Gallagher's recent comics, you may find them good, but slightly boring. Well, chapter zero, when Rodney Caston was still co-writing was, in my humble opinion, the best of the comics. It may be a thin book, but it's worth its weight in gold.
Rating: Summary: MegaTokyo- Great For Otakus (Anime Fans) and Gamers Review: MegaTokyo Vol. 1 Chapter 0 (confusing name to you? I'll explain later) begins the tale of the online webcomic MegaTokyo (http://www.megatokyo.com) as a quiet, shy hardcore Otaku (which translates to Anime Freak, basically) and his loud, bold, and slightly delusional gamer friend aren't allowed into the E3 convention, and decide to fly to Japan. Once there, they accidently max out their credit cards and must find a way back home. A great, hillarious story geared more towards otakus and gamers, but I have friends who enjoy it who are hardly, or even not at all into anime, manga, or video games, however, I must admit that there are quite a few jokes that you may not get without knowledge in one of these subjects, such as spoofs of animes (ie ereal Experiments Largo, Naze Nani MegaTokyo) and jokes about how the PC game NeverWinter Nights was delayed, etc. The reason it is called Vol. 1 is because it is the first book (and currently the only book, but there is soon to be a Vol. 2 to be published by Dark Horse). The reason it's chapter zero? Well, when the auther (Fred Gallagher) had already written so many comics, he decided to start making chapters, and named what he already had- the tale of how they came to Japan, and them starting out there- Chapter 0. So here it is. There are also extras in this book, such as comments by the real-life counterparts for the characters.

Rating: Summary: Megatokyo- pl-l34l_ t3l-l p0w3r Review: This was written as a 7th grade school project. After being kicked out of a game convention, two college grads take a trip to Tokyo, Japan. Suddenlt stranded with no money, food, or place to live, they must find their way back from Tokyo to America. They begin to settle into their new enviroment, starting off anew in this strange place. Throughout their "adventure' they met many new friends, including a humanoid PS2 accessory, and a hamster that is supposedly one of their "consciences." In the end, however, they begin to blend into this strange new world and live in it, wondering whether or not going back home would be better than styaing in Tokyo. I loved this book since it is, basically, a story for gamers, nerds, and artists by gamers, nerds, and artists. It has a morbid sense of humor that many people enjoy, and it shows some problems that happen in real life. The true purpose of this book, to show how life looks from the views of people that are called "geeks," is amazing, and somehow inspiring. This book still makes me want to sit down and create a novel of my own, to show the life of these two guys is like the ones other people do live. In summary, this book should be read by everyone, no matter what age, or interest. This book is currently also a webcomic. Read it at- www.megatkyo.com
