Summary: Not what I expected but not not surprisd either
Review: I was really reluctant to buy this graphic novel. I have already been through the Gundam hype before, and lost interest several times because of what it had become. But I also know the original Gundam series has very strong ethical themes. It's not all action and mecha.

I hadn't seen or remembered any of the original Gundam since it first aired (and was too young to understand many of the themes). So I thought I might purchase and read this first volume, and hopefully understand more of the story. I wanted to.

I was dissappointed to find that this book was action beginning to end. There isn't much time to know the characters, they just seem to develop immediately. However in all fairness, given the situation the characters are in, they are forced to develop quckly.

The manga does not provide what I expected, disappointing consiodering manga does not have the same time constraints as a televison programme. I would have liked it to follow more of what Yoshiyuki Tomino really wanted the story to be.

The is no doubt that the mechanical detail in the book is good, characters seem to take a second place in the beatuty of the art, and the story appears to follow the original story well. will I continue the series of graphic novels?

Perhaps, this is only the first book, I will give this version story a chance to develop some more.

Summary: May be misleading to Gundam newbies...
Review: It's disturbing to think how much people are focused on Gundam Wing because it's so mainstream... Personally, I find this to be a good book, but only if you are willing to GO BEYOND Gundam Wing. If you want to learn more about the UC era and the One Year War (not to be confused with Gundam Wing's AFTER COLONY era), go ahead and buy this book. But be warned! If you have no background in Gundam (in its ENTIRETY; not any of this ONLY GUNDAM WING experience), it may be confusing. Keep in mind that Gundam Wing is a totally DIFFERENT universe in comparison to the ORIGINAL KIDOU SENSHI GUNDAM storyline (it was one of 3 alternate universes commisioned by the creators of the original series). Therefore, while they may share some of the same aspects (i.e. the Gundams and the similarities between OZ and Zion), they do not share others, like beam "sporks" and other fun gimmicks. Sorry if the GW description offended anyone.

Summary: The REAL Gundam...
Review: Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, drawn and written by Kazuhisha Kondo, is the Manga adaption of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, produced in 1979, and has absolutely nothing to do with 1995's New Mobile Report Gundam W, known in the US as Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Volume 1, which is approximately equivilant to the first 11 episodes of the series, is almost a direct adaption, and is reccomended for the fans of the original, as it has far more material than was seen in the Anime Village release of the three compilation movies. While at times it seems a bit on the silly side, and the art is definitely late 70's style, it's a very good manga. My only complaint is that Kondo's rendering of Yoshihaku Yashuhiro's character designs leaves a lot to be desired...

Summary: Parallel Universe, anyone?
Review: Ok, this book is obviously not about Gundam Wing. It takes place in an alternate universe where every Wing character has a parallel character much like their own. Heero Yuy is Amuro Ray, Relena is Sayla Mass, Zechs is Char Aznable, and Duo Maxwell is Kai Shinden. These characters interact in new situations to form an enjoyable reading experience. Based on the origional Gundam 0079 series, the book hopes to clarify important plot developments that were cut out of the Gundam compilation movies. For anyone who has not experienced the full 42 Gundam episodes, they should pick up this magna, which will lead them on their path to further Gundam enlightenment.

Summary: If you want to learn more obout Gundam read this.
Review: This is the FIRST gundam seris. It has absolutly nothing to do with the wing seris on Cartoon Network. But you should still get this. The Original Series is my favorite next to G Gundam and Gundam V.

Summary: The start of it all
Review: Wayyyyy back before anime went mainstream in America, before the likes of Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and other such popular series that have recently hit our shores, there was a series called Gundam. 21 years later, we finally(we as the general public) are exposed to the Gundam universe. With the debute of Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network, anime fans and other oblivious TV viewers alike got a taste of TRUE anime on TV.We anime lovers are finally getting the satisfaction of the GOOD series airing, not just kiddie Pokemon and other so called anime that has been hyped to ridiculous proportions! Bottom line is this:If you've seen the series, then you're gonna love this! Now go back to the that time looong long ago(okay, so maybe not that long ago)where Gundam started, and be prepared, for the series is HUGE!The action is great, the story is better, and the characters ae memorable. Just one thing:those of you who are used to the flashy streamlined designs of the Wing series may be a bit taken by the more bulky and erratic designs of the Moble Suits in this series. Back then, anime robots weren't as well designed in my opnion. But soon Gudam started to change all that. If you can see past the 70's style art then there's a great story underneath waiting for you. This is only the start.Enjoy!
