Summary: another excellent Police story with a twist
Review: I've come to expect well crafted police stories with a twist from this author, and this story is no exception. It has to be said straight out that this is a "werewolf" novel, but maybe not exactly the "normal" sort of werewolves you might expect.When a series of horrible murders start happening top dectetive Allison Goodnight is assigned to the case with her new rookie partner Zane kerr. Zane soon sposts problems with the way Allison is reporting information on the case, and not being stupid himself starts to put some odd facts together about her...which could lead to putting them both in mortal danger. This is a novel that works on two levels with a chase to catch a killer and to find the truth. If you like a well constructed and written mystery with a touch of the supernatural then this book is for you.

Review: The heroine of these paranormal mystery is Allison Goodnight, homicide detective and werewolf. As the story opens Allison is viewing the body of a man violently multilated by his killer. He appears to have been savaged by a large animal, but there are only human footprints aound the body. She can tell the killer is a rogue werewolf, but it is not one known to her local clan. Allison needs to solve the case and protect her clan by concealing the supernatural identity of the killer. Allison's new partner, Zane complicates this task. He has been recently promoted to detective and is eager to learn from the more experienced Allison, but she conceals information from him, misleads him, and sends him off on busy work. The story is told alternatively from the view points of Allison and Zane. We see Allison racing to solve the case before the mounting bodycount brings unwelcome attention her clan. She is troubled by the prospect of having to kill Zane if he comes too close to the nature of the killer. Some members of her clan are very quick to decide to eliminate any possible human threats. We see Zane working around Allison to help solve the case and we see him becoming increasingly troubled by links between Allison's relatives and the killer. All werewovles are tall blond and handsome. Allison and her female relatives resemble the description of the killer. This book brings a fresh view to werewolves. They do not actually turn into wolves, but when they access their super powers, they appear as large-threatening-animals to human bystanders. The author neatly integrates the use of these powers into the detectiving part of the story - using her nose, Allison can incriminate or clear a suspect. Highly recommended for those who like their procedural mysteries combined with the supernatural and for those who like kick-[bottom] heroines like Anita Blake and Victory Nelson.
