Summary: Great Book!!!!
Review: Neverwhere is an outstanding book. Neil Gaiman's detailed writing takes you into the book and makes it as if you're standing on the sidelines. There is always something happening somewhere to keep you interested and the story takes unexpected turns. It's exciting, scary, inventive, and full of imagination. It's extremely hard to put down.
"Look, Gary," Richard began. "Do you ever wonder if this is all there is? . . . Work. Home. The pub. Meeting girls. Living in the city. Life. Is that all there is?" "I think that sums it up, yes," said Gary. Richard sighed. "Well," he said, "for a start, I didn't go to Majorca. I mean, I really did not go to Majorca."
Everything in Richard's life is going well, until one night while walking to dinner with his fiancé and her boss, he finds a girl bleeding on the streets. He leaves his fiancé and her boss, and takes the girl back to his apartment to get her cleaned up and let her rest. Bad idea....or good? From then on he is taken into a world of danger, betrayal, and strangeness, a world unknown to the everyday one he lives in.
When I started to read Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, I was expecting a story that would be drawn out, lengthy, but still have enough value to be interesting. I love scary books, so by reading the jacket blurb, I decided I would try to read it. I didn't expect to be able to feel what the character was feeling, whether it was frustration, happiness, or sadness, and that I could take myself into the character's mind. I loved it, and I give it five stars.

Summary: Great, but first chapters can be confusing
Review: I loved reading this book in Junior English in High School. At first I was confused with some stange notion that it was a book about mice in underground tunnels in London, but after the first few chapters I figured out that was not the plot. I really enjoyed this book with all of its twists and turns and its very suprising ending.

Summary: Everywhere unseen
Review: This book has characters that keep you interested and a plot so imaginative that it kept me turning pages till my eyes hurt. It is one of the best books I have read, and I read alot. Gaiman makes his characters real enough for you to feel scared for Door and Richard. He makes the marquis come to life with his wonderful description of him.

Summary: Best Book EVER!
Review: My friends were addicted to Neil long before I was. Being the avid reader I am, hearing them talk about his books all the time, and being a huge Tori Amos fan I just had to check him out. This was the first book of his I picked up and it quickly became one of my favorites of all time. It is amazing! The writing style is a little confusing at first but only for the first few pages. For someone who doesn't read all that often or hasn't read him before I might recommend "Stardust" first. But nevertheless this book is beyond amazing.

Summary: i can still remember how good this was
Review: I read this book years ago but i can distinctly remember how good it really was. Ive read too many books but when I remember this book i still remember the feeling that goes along with it- the true mark of a great book. If nothing else you will be left in awe of Gaimen's talent. It was just so so good.

Summary: Neverwhere is someplace in my heart
Review: This book was one of the most satisfying reads I've had in a very long time. It's darkness was the kind of darkness that makes me feel right and true. I flew thru this book and when I was done, I wished to the ability to draw a door on the wall and pass right thru it.
If you are considering buying this book and reading reviews to help you make your decision, well, if you're even thinking of getting a Gaiman book you must be of the ilk that will enjoy the story immensly. Just don't look for an imitation of his Sandman series - his creativity spreads far and wide.

Summary: eh...Harry Potter goes Goth
Review: Neil Gaiman's Terry Pratchett-meets-Harry Potter-spiced-with-a-'dark edge'-style is appealing to some, I guess, but faeries and giants and characters that sound like Mythological rejects (which reminded me a LOT of Clive Barker's "Nightbreed," incidentally) have always been near the bottom of my interest list (along with chemistry and P.E.). "Neverwhere" is a fairly engaging novel, but the narrative is nothing outstanding or original (normal London dweller falls in with a D&D underworld populated by pixies, angels and nasty beasties). Gaiman overuses metaphors about "drops of mercury," and some passages just reek of bad Gothic poetry. As someone who isn't a fan of this genre, I still think it's a worthwhile book--sadly, the most interesting character--the marquis de Carabas--is given only supporting-player status (he needs his own novel!).

Summary: Outstanding, Red Team!
Review: Unlike a previous reviewer, I think Gaiman IS the Bradbury of our time, and could read this book over and over. His fresh and unique descriptive prose is not only a wonderful novelty in the current world of the George R R Martin, Terry Goodkind-style droning epic: his plots are unique and complex. Characters are well-developed, interesting, and have a personal relevance to the reader that is woefully lacking in modern SF&F.It's not just a fun story: it's damn well-written.

Summary: Fabulous Book!
Review: Every once in awhile I enjoy a really good horror story, and guess what? I found one. Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere," is the book to top in the horror category! I was spellbound from start to finish. The characters are wonderful and the plot a real page-turner to be sure. (Highly Recommended Novel!)

Summary: Great, but not good enough to read over and over.
Review: I love Neil Gaiman. The guy's mind is just incredible; from all the Sandman related stuff to this, he's a writer with a killer imagination. So why did I say, not good enough to read over and over? I'd like to think that Neil Gaiman will turn out to become the Ray Bradbury for this generation, who didn't grow up reading his stuff, but all of us should own a copy of, Something Wicked This Way Comes. That book, right there, by Bradbury, can be read over and over again, and you never get tired of it. Also can be said of everything Tolkien has written. That's what great fantasy writers do, in my opinion: write the books you can read once every six months for the rest of your life. Now with, Neverwhere: killer plot, characters, beginning, ending, and all the in betweens. I just didn't think it had that magical, storytelling quality, to be read again and again. By all means, get this and read it, without a doubt. Just don't expect it to earn a home on your bookshelf. 4 STAR RATING FROM SCRAGGY'S TOMB OF HORROR, USA.
