Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Dysfunctional Cat + Naive Dog = Funny Review: Get Fuzzy has quite a following within my circle of college-graduate friends, and even my nutty ex-cop father has caught on and reads the strip religiously. It is a hilarious comic if you like animal humor and pop-culture refererences--if neither strikes you as enjoyable, don't bother buying this book. However, if you are a cat and/or dog owner and don't take yourself too seriously, I am willing to bet that you might really enjoy this series! ...Groovitude is an excellent compilation as long as you do not have both The Dog is Not a Toy and Fuzzy Logic -- it is a compilation of all of the strips in those two books, the only main difference is that the Sunday strips are printed in color, whereas the other two smaller volumes are entirely black and white. My copy has been borrowed by almost everyone I know and returned with favorable reviews. I highly recommend Groovitude to any Get Fuzzy fan, and also recommend it to anyone looking for a gift for a pet owner.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Curious Review: Wow. I'm quite amused at how angry some people are with the popularity of this cartoon...The irate comments about 'the dumbing down of this country' and 'Garfield with better art' in particular. Throughout my life I've been a fan of the usual suspects...'Bloom County' and 'Doonesbury' and 'Calvin and Hobbes'...But I've been quite happy with two new comics in particular that have come out...'The Boondocks' and 'Get Fuzzy'...I'm not so sure I trust someone who demands political and social commentary from their daily cartoons...while its a wonderful forum for exacting change ( think Bloom County vs Mary Kay .. ) ... That's not what the comics are all about...If this is what you are looking for, read the op-eds... 'Get Fuzzy' is composed of a funny little world where the ego, super-ego and id all interact thru the characters of Rob, Satchel and Bucky...From growing up in New England, I especially enjoy the baseball team loyalties amongst the characters (of course the cat is a Yankees fan...) I'd recommend the strip to children and to any adults who know the difference between the op-eds and the comics. One final note...The successes of such strips as 'Bloom County' and 'Doonesbury' and 'Calvin and Hobbes' were not overnight. These were developed and fine tuned over many years...And while you might dismiss Mr. Conley's work as tired (like some of our very discerning reviewers have already done) I urge you to be patient...Remember, Berkeley Breathed was tormented much the same way for the first few years of his career yet his work eventually evolved into something quite charming and original on its own terms... Enjoy!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Get into the groove... Review: Putting aside all of the analysis and comparisons, GROOVITUDE does what a good comic strip collection is supposed to do: It makes you laugh! Out loud! Over and over! Like all comic strips, you either like GET FUZZY or you don't. But how you could NOT like GET FUZZY is simply hard for me to imagine. It's got oddly appealing characters, an off-kilter perspective, great artwork, and just plain funny stories. So, get into a debate over something serious, but get into GROOVITUDE because you want to have some fun and laugh for a while... It'll definitely pick you up when you're feeling rather belgium. ;)
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Get Fuzzy is DEFINITELY NOT A GARFIELD RIP-OFF!! Review: Anyone who thinks so is mad! Bucky is such a *KATT* (his last name, fyi), Satchel (last name "POOCH") is the *sweetest* mutt in the world and Robbo (Rob Wilco, their "person") is the kind of guy I'd like to meet :-) Everybody (fuzzy and non) in this strip is WAY superior and far more entertaining than the Garfield characters, and if you don't believe me, just go to the comics.com website and check out some of the archived strips. Very, VERY funny, even if you hate cats or dogs. These books are hoot! But get the first 2 rather than the treasury... that way you can follow the soap opera of the week (they're laid out in order) and it's more fun that way. BTW: My favorite line: "He's packin' Smacky." HA HA!! (guess you had to be there ;-)

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Bucky Katt is my alter ego Review: I must say that my first introduction with Get Fuzzy was quite accidental. In all actuality, I had Bucky as my mouse icon long before I had even read the strip. It was his "bite me" look that sold me on him. Now, months after discovering the wonderful cruelty that is Bucky, I am a constant singer of praise of this wonderful strip. Alas, this book is the first (and only, so far) comic collection of Darby Conley's talent but I plan to buy oh so much more. I highly recommend this book, regardless of your standpoint on cat ownership for two reasons: 1). If you love cats, this book (and I'm sure the others as well) will make you smile and laugh at the honest irony of the cat's attitude. 2). If you hate cats, you can't help but nod your head and say, "That is exactly why I don't own a cat and never will."
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Cover Alone is Enough Reason To Buy The Book Review: If you want something that involves sweat little animals like Marmaduke this is not it. These animals have personality and are highly disfunctional. If you like Garfield you will love Bucky Katt and Satchel. Satchel is the fun loving dog with a good heart and Bucky is the sadistic cat with all the attitude. But it's not like Garfield where Odie gets beat up all the time Satchel gets even with little witty comments. If you need more reasons just read the comic.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I agree with the Provo Dude. Review: Funny this book is not. It is one of the dullest strips around. What is great is that now Bloom County is out on Sundays, so poeple can see a truly funny and original strip.I noticed that Darb' just mentioned the war in Iraq in his recent strip. Darby, you are not clever enough to get political. In fact you have to first master being funny and original, which you haven't.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: pets with attitude Review: This strip was only in the paper a few days before I became a fan of Rob Wilco and his seriously offbeat pets. Though it superficially resembles Garfield, the characters are more fully developed, are better drawn (this is one of the best-looking comic strips in the paper), and are a lot more-- well-- non-linear in their thinking. In fact, this is probably how real cats and dogs would attempt to cope with the human world if they could interact with us. Though there are a few strips that fall flat, there are enough seriously deranged ones to make up for it. It may not join the ranks of the all-time classic strips, but it's close enough for me.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not What I Expected... Review: As a newcomer to the world of Get Fuzzy, having discovered it in the local paper and following it closely for the past few months, I was excited to learn of the treasury available that includes the first two installments of Get Fuzzy. Already a fan of the strip, I was taken aback by one reviewer's opinion of the book (A reader from Provo) who found the artist pretentious and the comic to be mediocre and not funny. After receiving the book and reading the introduction, I certainly understand this reviewer's point. Darby Conley makes bold statements like all comic strips are rip-offs of Far Side, including strips such as Calvin and Hobbes (which in my opinion, is by far the greatest comic strip ever made and is infinitely more original and imaginative than Get Fuzzy can even hope to be). I enjoyed the comic strip, but Conley's ridiculous introduction did sap a great deal of that enjoyment. The premise for Get Fuzzy- a single male living with an ever-hungry, temperamental feline and a lovable, yet gullible dog- screams of un-orginality (think Garfield). I didn't care for the first half of the book in terms of the way Rob is drawn while Bucky and Satchel are rarely humorous in the first strips, but they do provide an interesting look at the character development of the strip. By the end of the book, the strips are enjoyable and contain the characteristics that first attracted me to Get Fuzzy, so this treasury certainly isn't a total loss. I can't respect Darby Conley for his statements about other comics (Bill Watterson was not only creative, imaginative, and a genius, but he had morals when it came to marketing his strip), but it is possible to enjoy Get Fuzzy in itself.
