Summary: One of my favorites
Review: I could'n put this book down.
The glory of the empire, and seeing
Xizor and Vader in their struggle to be
on Palpatine's right hand side. Xizor tempting Leia.
Seeing Xizor's Black Sun into a potential threat
to the Empire, was really interesting.
This book has to be on my 5 SW favorites.

Summary: Good enough to inspire toys!!!
Review: This is Star Wars Episode 5.5. What happens between "Empire" and "Jedi"? What is the deal when Mon Mothma mentions that many Bothans died to bring us the New Death Star info? What is the deal with Leia's disguise in "Jedi"? Chewy's Hair cut? etc.

This book actually begins in the middle of "Empire Strikes Back" during Darth Vader's Communication with the Emperor. We see that scene from Vader's perspective in "Empire". This book cleverly begins from the Emperor's chambers. And immediately, the reader is hooked!

Read this book!!! If you are like me and have seen the movies so many times you fear to even speak the number, this book has the ability to make you freshly view Episodes 5 and 6 from a whole different light.

As a testament to how good this book is, a soundtrack was developed and and entire (abbreviated) Hasbro toy line. I would love to see this one translated to film, that is how good this is.

Summary: One of my favorite Star Wars books
Review: I've read other Star Wars Expanded Universe books (like the Thrawn Trilogy) and been less than impressed. Some of them are [unsatisfactory] (like the Jedi Academy trilogy and The Crystal Star) and some are good (like Dark Force Rising). That being said, I wasn't sure what to expect of Shadows. It had a huge multimedia push (toys, books, games) which makes you wonder about the quality of the source material. So I picked it up feeling somewhat jaded.

All this time later, I've read Shadows at least three times and each time I like it even more.

The book takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. While Luke works on his Jedi skills (and building a new lightsaber) on Tatooine, Prince Xizor plots to destroy Darth Vader's influence over the Emperor by having Luke killed. Meanwhile, Leia and Lando attempt to recover Han Solo's carbonite-frozen body from Boba Fett with the help of Dash Rendar, a smuggler like Solo.

The main reason why I like Shadows so much is because of Prince Xizor: he has much more depth to him as a villian than Darth Vader does. At times I liked the character so much I wanted his plans to actually succeed; unfortunately, if they did, most of Return of the Jedi wouldn't have been able to happen. Xizor's character I found to be one of the most interesting I'd ever encountered in a novel. Perry developed him to be much more than a simple villain with a simple plan; he's infitely more realistic a character than Perry's other creation, Dash Rendar (to whom I thought was a low-rent Han Solo clone). The only real fault with the novel is that it doesn't do much with Boba Fett, but, then again, I've never got the appeal behind Boba so it wasn't that much of a fault.

Shadows of the Empire might be my favorite of the Expanded Universe novels, and Prince Xizor might be one of my favorite Star Wars characters. So, it's pretty obvious that I liked this book a lot and would highly recommend it. It's vastly superior to the other Star Wars novels out there.

Summary: Star Wars
Review: This book helps fill in the story between Empire and Jedi. How many times do you really get to read a Star Wars book where Vader is a main character.

Summary: Ensnaring Story
Review: An excellent connection between ESB and ROTJ. It follows all of our favorite SW movie characters, and Dash Rendar is wonderfully fleshed out. It is a convincing plot that explains in exquisite detail exactly how Luke, Leia, Lando, & Chewie figure out where Han is, where *Luke's new lightsaber comes from*, and how they plan to set Han free. A good, action-oreinted book.

Summary: Good
Review: This Book Was Very good and interesting. It explained what happened between the movies "The Empire Strikes Back" and "The Return of the Jedi". It helped place the characters for return of the jedi and also had a couple new characters come into play. Dash rendar, Prince Xizor, Black sun (not really a character but a criminal orginization), and several others. I enjoyed this book and I think its worthy of being added to the starwars collection of books.

Review: After reading 2 badly written Han Solo books, this was a breath of fresh air. While it was hard imagining characters acting a certain way occassionally, it was a good book overall.

Luke in particular was a little to happy than I felt he should've been. I loved Xizor. He made an excellent adversary for both Alliance & Vader. The crime underworld was very interesting too. It was also nice to see Vader deal with other situations besides Luke & the Alliance.

Summary: This should have been "Return of the Jedi"!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: As I stated in an earlier review, ROTJ should hve been much different & better, "Shadows Of The Empire" is much better in the aftermath of "The Empire Strikes Back" & would have been a better follow-up, it picks up where TESB left off, with Lando & Chewbacca's departure to find Han Solo, & Luke's meditation of the revelation of Darth Vader as his father, SOTE gives much more depth to the character of Boba Fett whereas in ROTJ, he was just another of Jabba's stooges, here he is a man on a mission & clearly lives up to his reputation as the most feared bounty hunter, as he proceeds to deliver Solo to Jabba, he is chased, shot at, & nearly destroyed on his journey by rival bounty hunters, most of which were employed by Vader in TESB, he even lands on a nearby planet for repairs, which proves even more dangerous as he takes out many at every turn who want Solo's reward themselves, one bounty hunter even slips aboard his ship & lies in wait for the right moment once Fett is airbourne which backfires of course, this is just one part of SOTE, where elsewhere we see Vader on Courasaunt nursing his wounded shoulder from his fight in TESB, he is summoned by Emperor Palpatine who expresses disappointment in Vader's failure to get Luke in TESB, we are soon introduced to Prince Xigor as a intergalactic warlord with much power & influence on Courasaunt, who by contrast wants Vader ousted & him as Palpatine's apprentice, who goes as far as putting a contract on Luke in the outer rim, in an effort to anger Palpatine even more for Vader not getting Luke, later we see Luke on Tatoonie in Obi-Wan's home replacing his lightsaber that was lost in TESB, soon he is ambushed by bounty hunters outside who have learned of Xigor's offer in the outer rim, a chase ensues as Luke using his skill in Beggers' Canyon, lures them into the rocky traps of the rocks, & narrowly escapes capture, Luke soon meets up with Lando & Chewbacca & they along with Leia infiltrate Courasaunt to find out who is behind the attack, Courasaunt is a very dangerous place for them to say the least as they fight off many of Palpatine's finest troops & eventually have to rescue Leia from Xigor himself in his palace high above the inner city, this would have been a better follow-up if extended with Luke confronting Vader & Palpatine with Lando, Chewbacca, & Leia off to rescue Solo from Fett, once he arrived at Tatoonie,& a Rebel Assault on Courasaunt & all the Empire's military would have been great, but SOTE more than holds its own as one of the best, if not the best SW novel, & in my view would have been a better conclusion!!!

Summary: The Best Star Wars Book.. Without A Shadow Of A Doubt
Review: I thought that the Shadows Of The Empire by Steve Perry was the best Star Wars book ever written! It is about Prince Xizor (the head of an evil organization called "Black Sun" and Darth Vader. Vader sent's out plans for Luke Skywalker to be captured alive so he can turn him to the dark side, and Xizor send's out plans to kill him because of revenge from Darth Vader (read the book and find out what revenge)It also is about the rebel alliance Luke Skywalker, Princess Lea, Chewbacca,Lando Calrissian, RD-D2, c-3PO. They are looking for Boba Fett so they can capture the body of Han Solo in carbonite, they run into Dash Rendar who helps them for good money. The story takes place between Empire Strikes Back And Return Of The Jedi. It explains stuff that Return Of The Jedi doesn't. This book deserves all 5 stars.
