Summary: pretty good but the wrong mood for a star wars story
Review: i admit i liked it but why kill dash. also the mood of this story didnt fit in with the trilogy. the part where xizors castle blows up rocks!

Summary: SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE
Review: IT WAS PRETTY GOOD, BUT THEY TRIED TO DRAW TO MANY THINGS TOGETHER AND ADD TOO MUCH TO THE STORY FOR ONE BOOK. WITH A LITTLE EFFORT, IT COULD HAVE BEEN TWO VERY INTERESTING NOVELS THAT TOOK PLACE BETWEEN EMPIRE STRIKES BACK AND RETURN OF THE JEDI.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: One of the best single-serve Star Wars novels
Review: My only complaint is the absence of Han Solo but he's been myfavorite for a very long time. It was nice to re-visit the lessboring world of Star Wars, I fear in the past year or so in the continuation of the infinately long series something keeps on getting lost in the translation. Xisor was the most facinating villain they've had since Darth Vader or Kevin J. Anderson's Admiral Daala. I've always thought the singe-serve Star wars novels ore the best, like the Truce of Bakura and the Courtship of Princess Leia (unfortuanatly in that novel, though, Princess Leia temporarily turns stupid). Each Star Wars novel becomes bolder and bolder when it comes to that kinda stuff. (if you doubt me go read Children of the Jedi!) I can't comment much about the intergalactic battles of Shadows, simply because I usually boredly breeze through those, I lust for sharacter development. Thank god i didn't have to plot the death of Luke Skywalker in this one, there wasn't much of him! Dash Rendar...and they say Fox Mulder is a silly name!

Summary: A captivating story fits with lubricance
Review: Shadows of the Empire is a captivating story, and its originality is an important aspect in this world if critiques. With the introduction of two interesting characters, DASH and XIZOR, Steve Perry Holds his own in the STAR WARS world. It seems, however, that Perry was lazy to write at times, presenting grammar glitches in midbook. And it would have been a better tale if it were a trilogy, with Xizor and Dash living to celebrate their surviving the Skyhook Battle. A highly commendable title, SHADOWS is an interesting fold that easily fits into, surprisingly, the movie trilogy. Well done!

Summary: It reads like a comic book without the pictures.
Review: This is quite possibly the single worst Star Wars novel I have ever come across. The characterizations are flat and lifeless caricatures, and bear almost no resemblance to the on-screen characters we have all come to know and love. Also, the author seems obsessed with throwing in "everything but the kitchen sink." He seems to be purposely including as many obscure references from the films and fan fiction as he possibly can. It has the feel of someone trying to prove their credibility on the subject, as if to say "See! I watched all the movies 80 thousand times too! Really, I did!" He does create a few totally new characters, some of which even border on the interesting, but naturally kills them off in due course at the end of the novel. Also, the idea of someone being able to rival Darth Vader for the Emperor's attentions and favor is ridiculous, especially someone involved in Xixor's activities, and with no inclination at all to the Dark Side of the Force. I've probably bashed this unfortunate work enough, and I haven't even gotten to the insanely far-fetched and contrived plot. Suffice it to say that this novel reads like a comic book without the pictures. One supposes that's plain enough. Save your money and time. Go re-read the Zahn trilogy again, or check out McDowell's Black Fleet Crisis. In spite of all the hype, the video games, the soundtrack CD, and so forth, this is definitely one to skip

Summary: Shadows stands alone as the best star wars book!!!
Review: This is probally the best star wars book to date. Here are the reasons why,1.It has Vader in it.The coolest character in the universe.2.It has an atmosphere closer to The Empire Strikes Back(which most people think is the best in the origanal trilogy)than any other book.3.It flawlesly represents the characters.4.It has an origanal plot and climax that is rare in most star wars books. For those reasons and more it is the best star wars book.I would give it a 10 rating but for me to give a book a 10 it has to be reallyl special and it still doesn't really compare to any of the movies but that would be near impossible anyway

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A fun quick read
Review: I liked this book. It fills the gaps between Empire and Jedi, and moves along smoothly, never dragging. The action is fun and easy to understand. It has all the right elements of a great Star Wars novel. The only thing I disliked about it was how easily the new characters were killed off. They die quite undramtically, both being blown away in a ship. And yes, I think Dash was created just because Solo is not available. I didn't really think he was needed at all. But other than that, a fun read

Summary: Exellent book, fast paced and engaging
Review: I'm 11 and this book is the best of the best!!! Most likely the number 1 Star Wars book ever written. It is the most intriguing book I've ever read. Steve Perry is an exellent writer but he could tell how say Xizors name, and more war and action. I also wish he hadn't made so many of the main characters die

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Next to Zahn It Is The Best
Review: Shadows Of The Empire is an excellent novel. Perry introducesfresh and fascinating characters that truly represent the imaginationwithin the Star Wars universe. The pacing is fast and exciting as the tension builds to a great climax. My favorite part of the novel is reading about Luke becoming a full Jedi Knight and using those powers to their full extent at the end of the novel. Luke is no longer a student but a warrior. Readers get to enjoy all the wonder and excitement of the Star Wars universe without waiting for the whole trilogy to come out. Shadows is definitely worth reading if one likes Star Wars in any way.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Nothing special, but AWESOME CLIMAX!!
Review: At first, the book didn't appeal to me much, as the choice ofwords aren't much like the other Star Wars novels I have read. Toomany switches from one scene to the next, some scenes are only like 2 sentences long, quite unneccessary. It didn't catch my attention much, until the ending. It was EXCELLENT! The climax makes up for the whole book! It was surprising, and I couldn't stop reading until the end of the book! Climax was awesome.
