Summary: Cheap excuse to make money
Review: Well, someone finally figured out a cheap way to bring back Vader in a book. I wish someone who can actually write had thought of it. Vader did not speak like Vader would speak, the new villain Zixor was very boring, and Dash Rendar is a band-aid on the sore that is the missing Han Solo. He's only a cheap imitation. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Summary: I Find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing
Review: I'm a fan of Perry's work for Aliens, so when I heard Lucasfilm was going to turn him loose on the Star Wars universe, I was there. And I have to say it wasn't bad. Perry's descriptive voice lends detail to the exotic locations of Star Wars, his Luke Skywalker is the most dead-on I've seen. Dash Rendar is not as detailed as I would have liked, and I get the impression that Perry wasn't all that fond of the character. If I have to complain, Perry's dialouge can be clumsy at times. We all have a ingrained sense of how these characters talk and act, and while his Han Solo was bang on (for the whole half-page he's in the book) his other characters sometimes use a lot of " do nots " and other fancy talking. And another thing! Perry uses too many exclamation points! We know action is happening! We don't need to go overboard. But the big enchilada, the place where Perry truly shines, is when he gives us the viewpoint of Darth Vader. No one has gotten into the Dark Lord's head like this before, and it is just so boss. My one Star Wars wish is the Perry get to craft a novel with Vader as the protagonist. That would rock. A fine book, and a great way to get turned on to the plethora of Star Wars novels out there today.

Summary: An all around winner!
Review: I am an avid reader of Star Wars books and this was deffinately one of the best ones I've ever read. With the absence of Han, Dash Rendar adds an interesting twist in the plot. The end though was a bit weak when Dash was supposed to be such a hot pilot but he seems to slam into a piece of space trash. I know in the game he doesn't but oh well, it's a must have for any collection.

Review: Let me be honest...Im not a big fan of reading, But 'Shadows of the Empire' by Steve Perry is sooo good im reading it for the 2nd time. Some of the diologue in this book is so good it is even better than george lucas's. Do yourself a favor a get this book!

Summary: Magnificent
Review: I really love this book. It is so well written. You can hardly put it down once you start. I was a little concerned about the lack of Han Solo, who is my hero. However, Steve Perry was kind {and brave} enough to add his Han-like character, Dash Rendar. Dash is every bit as cocky as Han, and although not as great of a character{who is?} he still brings a close to home feeling. George Lucas should talk to Steve Perry about dialogue. As good as GL is, Perry's dialogue outshines his. There are only a few "I have a bad feeling about this" type lines. The characters introduced here are excellent. Xixor is a excellent and dangerous new character, and Dash Rendar is excellent. The Swoop chase through tattoine and the Climax scenes are the many many many highlights of this fantastic novel.

Summary: Dash Rendar: Han Solo in Disguise
Review: I read this book the week it was published, and had mixed feelings about it. First I felt that I was ripped off of four hours of my life. Just another Star Wars book. One of my friends also read the book and fully enjoyed. Suprised by his feelings, I re-read it. The second time I looked at the characterization of Dash Rendar, he is HAN SOLO. I belive that Steve Parry felt left out, his book couldn't have everyone's favorite smuggler. So he got inventive and created the crummy old Dash Rendar. Six Comics, a special apperance and a Video Game later........ Dash has gained popularity throughout the STAR WARS realm. The Outrider (his ship) had a cameo apperance in Special Edition, and his computer game has sold thousands of copies. Han doesn't even have a game.

Summary: One of the Worst books I've ever read. Period.
Review: I found this book horribly written, full of shallow and stereotypical characterizations. All the characters you've grown to know and love are reduced to paper cut-outs spewing meaningless lines that seem like something the might say but wouldn't. The story is slow moving, but completely lost in the bad writing and weak protrayal of the key characters. It reads like a book written by someone who has had little experience and only a passing knowledge of the characters and events of the Star Wars universe.I cannot pan this book enough. The bigger fan you are of Star Wars, the more you'll hate this book.

Summary: Got me hooked!!!
Review: I had never been a big fan of Star Wars till I read this book. Sure, I was like all the other Americans who had seen the movies, but not really fell in love with it. Then I picked up this book. It usually takes me two or three weeks (at best) to read a 400+ page novel. I read this in less than 1 week!!! It was so addictive. All the insight on Darth Vader it provided. Steve Perry even described the Force!!! THAT WAS AMAZING! I tell everyone I know if they read this book, and they will become a Star Wars nerd. Not that thats bad=)
