Summary: Best Thor story (ever ?); Jurgen's high point
Review: This TPB consist of compilation from the original comic book form (Thor# 51-59,& Marvel doubleshot). In my opinion this group of stories should be considered one of the best Thor runs in a long while.Sure, it can never be considered the best Thor story ever, because it never adequately told the core story, which is Asgard, the main casts such as Thor himself, Odin, Balder Sif, etc.,& the antagonists & the other supporting casts. The story somewhat veers away wildly from the familiar adventure-story of Thor and Asgards.

Simply put, it is one of the best superhero TPB around.Dan Jurgens is highly-commendable for his efforts here and is one of his best works & a high point in terms of crafting top-notch stories on a higher level. He was never better than this book.

The story is very controversial on it's theme, full of moralistic dilemma, grey areas and issues, grounded, as in, not too much action and the bulk of the story is about moral issues- related theme- such as right or wrong, to do or not to do.The book opens with Asgard startlingly appearing on the sky of New York! As the story proceeds,Thor and company entangles with moralistic issues, grey areas, and controversies. Should Asgard appear in N.Y. at all, as a mean of their proactive way to help people ? Should the Asgardians themselves appear and mix & mingle with earthlings ? Should Thor himself, unvoluntarily without the people consents reach out of his way to give and extend help for all in needs ? Is his judgement of help, right or wrong, sound, for himself? shall other people hold the same views and perspectives as him, in regards to his choices of right or wrong ?

Thor, on his own methods want to sincerely help people, whether they like it or not, approve or not approve his judgements, his methods, his his opinions & beliefs.Though I think his every actions and decisions are not the best the circumstances dictates.Apparently,he did not have the neccessary intelligence, wisdom,& experience at the moment to rightly involves himself heavily in. His actions, paradoxically, make things worst, as it spawns layer and layer of additional controversies.

I've read Walt Simonson's run on Thor thru his TPB, I didn't like it very much. Perhaps the story did not hold up to today standard. I find his work mundane, repetitive or unoriginal in terms of offering something new.The stories of Thor had been read before.Though his introduction of Beta Ray Bill is a classic, as it is rightfully has become part of Thor history.

All in all,in my opinion, this is the best work of Thor in a while(ever?) as the story proves extremely compelling, interesting & exciting, due to many facets working together in a symbiosis.First-class TPB. Should be put together alongside greats such as Origin, Marvel masterworks, Rise of Apocalypse, Daredevil vol. 1 HC(the man without fear) by Kevin Smith run, Villainy of Dr. Doom, as all these books I think shall remain & trancend the test of time. Highest recommendation, alongside other books just mention above.

Summary: fantastic Thor story
Review: What if the Gods REALLY walked the Earth and REALLY took part in the affairs of men. That's what this giant 248 page trade paperback is about. In all it collects 11 issues of Thor and other comics into this giant story.

After taking on the role as ruler of Asgard, Thor has relocated his legendary home to float directly over New York City. But how will the citizens of the world -- including Thor's former allies in the Avengers -- react when a host of self-styled Gods decides to intercede in the affairs of man?

Great Dan Jurgens story!
