Summary: Gripping Subject mixed with Teen Novel Subplots
Review: "Tribulation Force" continues to be interesting because the premise is intensely interesting(the Rapture and end-times).

Unfortunately, the character development and subplots are even more thin than the original. An overwhelmingly significant portion of the novel centers around an on-again-off-again relationship between Buck and Chloe. The development here feels much like a teen novel as the problems these two encounter revolve around a silly comedy of errors. This relationship is truly the focal point of the novel, not the end-times events - no other single topic receives as much writing.

Another significant drawback is the poor tempo of the book. Events do not progress in a timely fashion. The first 10% of the book charges forward and then grinds to a halt. The middle 70% of the book crawls toward the climax. The final 20% then explodes(with little warning). In the last 100 pages or so we have some weddings, a main character is casually killed off, some wars explode, someone gets pregnant, and a new main character is introduced. It almost seems like the middle was forcably drawn out and the climax was then jammed so full of plot developments that it almost burst.

One other aspect that damages the novel is that all the characters are virtually perfect, both professionally and spiritually. There is not a single character who is struggling with his/her new faith. There is not a single lapse of judgement or moral error. The Rapture would be traumatic to someone Left Behind, but readers won't believe someone leading a purely secular life and then becoming 100% perfect after realizing the error of their ways. Even the most devout of Christians lapse from time-to-time. This trait makes the main characters significantly uninteresting.

In summary, this book's premise is what compels the reader to keep reading, but that is about it. The subplots and storytelling is almost enough to cause a reader to give-up. Premise is 5 stars, writing is 1 star.

Summary: Sensationalism
Review: Actually, I give this book, and the series, no stars. The best that can be said is that if you enjoy science fiction, you could read it in the same sense that you would read Buck Rodgers.

If you are looking for a Biblical view of Christian eschatology, this series is helpful in that it informs you of everything that the Bible doesn't say on the topic. If you are looking for something sensational to read without it being accurate, then here is your "Christian" Buck Rodgers.

Summary: Tribulation Force: Blan
Review: I too was caught up in the excitment of the Left Behind! first book. Decent book, good movie.

However, Tribulation Force is NOT the same quality, either in writing or in content. Adults acting like 8th graders...page after page of Buck and Chloe's mis-adventures is enough! I rarely buy and book and not finish it...this is one exception in 10 years...I simply cannot continue with Buck and Chloe sparring like they do.

A WARNING to Catholics! This Book will not be gentle to your faith...there are MANY references to the Pope and the Church that are patently false...and somehow the AUTHORS views are the RIGHT ones. Sound suprising?

Nothing new here. Re-hashed ideas, warmed-over antagonisms, thin character development, and the "I'm right - you are wrong" syndrome that makes the rest of the world detest Christianity. People should put these books down and return to their Bibles and let GOD lead them....not LeHay or Jenkins. Put in 5 hours of Bible reading and prayer...thats the best alternative. Listen to a God-fearing pastor...man or woman.

But I will give the authors one credit...they are clever...hmmmm, I know someone else who is reputed to be 'CLEVER' as well. No intentions mind you. Marc (Tex) Washburne

Summary: Episode 2 offers more love story than action.
Review: Left Behind 2: Tribulation Force is a mixed bag of poorly plotted action and sweet romance. While author Jerry B. Jenkins still has more than enough end of the world action to fill his books, this entry is more than a tad clumsy, offering more seemingly needless stage setting and a love story rather than some of the threatened plagues, wars, earthquakes and such that are supposed to befall humanity in the coming books/years. While I'll admit with zero embarrassment as to enjoying the old fashioned love story plot (romances can be fun) I could not help but feel that Jenkins was running out of things for his characters to do. This becomes even more apparent when he simply skips over an extended period of time to get to a 'good part' rather than work the storyline events into the tale itself. Jenkins stumbles badly when, after the leap, he brings in a supporting character completely out of left field and spends only one or two paragraphs introducing her before marrying her off to Rayford. The eruption of WWIII and the death of a semi-major character are similarly rushed. That is just plain lazy and sloppy writing. But clumsy writing aside, the sweet romance between Buck and Chloe (Rayford's daughter) was enough of a joy to read that I'll give the book four stars anyway. But beyond this entry the future for this series of books is looking even grimmer than what is in store for the characters.

Summary: On Tribulation Force...
Review: This is my little review of "trib force." Rayford Steele, Cameron(Buck)Williams,Bruce Barnes, and Chloe Steele join forces to form the Trib Force. Through the story, Buck continues to work for the Antichrist,Nicolae Carpathia. Rayford also becomes his pilot. They continue to work inside the antichrist's headquarters, and then World War III erupts. Right before then there was a double marraige. Were members of the trib force involved in this? And who is it who dies in World War III? It is one of the members of the trib force, but you will have to read the book to find out who it is!

Summary: Serious Drop from the First Book
Review: I expect that most people who read this review are those who have read the first book and are considering continuation of the series or those who already know that they are going to love the series and just want to see what others are saying. If you really enjoyed the first book, Left Behind, then you will most likely enjoy this one. However, I read the first one and I liked it okay ( 4 out of 5 stars). I felt it was simplistic writing with a prepackaged theme, but pretty good nonetheless with potential and it was thought-provoking.

This book gives me a totally different view of the authors. In this installment, the characters are bland and trite, and the authors prejudice, against those who do not subscribe to their doctrine, shines through. The reader is not challenged to think about the implications in this book. I rarely start a book and not finish it, but this time I did. I may pick it up again when I am bored, but I will not continue the series. Bad writing style, mixed with poor, unrealistic characters and a predictable storyline make for wasted time and lost potential.

Summary: Gripping tale but some major theological errors
Review: There is no doubt that LaHaye and Jenkins weave a gripping tale here. The first two books are extremely well paced and action packed. The character development is extraordinary and very tastefully done. They are certainly characters that one could relate to. However there are some problems with these books, if they are to be read as anything other than purely fiction (I say this because I know many people use these books as witnessing tools). First, this book, as it has been stated, can be very offensive to Catholics. As has also been pointed out, Jenkins and LaHaye do a very poor job of either understanding or conveying Catholic (and consequently mainstream Protestant) theology. For instance, the only reason that the Pope is saved in the Rapture is because he converts to a Lutheran line of thinking. Needless to say, the Catholic and Lutheran churches have similar lines of thought in eschatological theology, and both differ greatly from the evangelical viewpoint which is depicted in this book. There are other points which indicate poor research of the Catholic theological position which could have easily been rectified. These are unfortunately reasons for Catholics to put these books aside and pick up one which is more accurate and just as captivating (O'Brien's - Father Elijah - by Ignatius Press is one example). In addition, it must be said that this series originally started as a trilogy, and as is evident, we're now on the sixth book with no end in sight. This means that this is the last book which doesn't spend an enormous amount of time rehashing past episodes (books) to bring the reader back into the flow of the new books. This also means that this is the last book which is hard hitting and fast paced, as it appears the later books are more drawn-out to increase the amount of material for later books. In my mind, this is the greatest pity about this series, because if it was shortened, it could have been an excellent, five-star series. So, in conclusion: This is a great series to read if your an evangelical Christian, but I would please ask you to not let this book paint a picture of Catholicism which is untrue. This book is merely fiction so please don't let it sway you to believe things which are not true about other Christian denominations. Also, do not expect this series to maintain the high state of action, and hence the quality that you will get accustomed to in these first two books. It is a slow but steady decline from here on out.

Summary: Excellent Book - Better Than The First
Review: I found this book to be much better written than the first book in the series. Not too much excitement happens in the Tribulation Force, but it really got me pumped up, not just to go on to the next book in the series, but in my own life as well. The little misunderstanding between Chloe and Buck was ridiculous, and how Rayford and Amanda ended up together (and where she came from) was a bit confusing at first, but it explains that later, so I'll forgive the authors on that one. As of right now, I have gotten as far as the fourth book in the Left Behind Series and have yet to be disappointed. The first one took a little patience to get through because of how it was written (majorly cheesy, in my opinion), but ever since I got halfway into that first book in the series, I have really felt like I was part of the story, and, even when not reading the book, have found myself wondering what will happen to the characters.

Summary: Tribulation Force
Review: I was given my first of the Left Behind Series as a present when I visited the States. I was shocked when I relised that it was religious fiction and expected it to preach to me etc. I am not very religious and do not like being told, or made to feel as though I should thank God with every breath. However, I took a deep breath and thought I'd give it a try. I found it easy to read and found the characters and storyline facinating. I needed to find out what happened next and the Tribulation Force was no disappointment.

The Left Behind Series may be classed as Religious Fiction, but I'd recommed it as a Good Readable Fiction. Give it a go!
