Summary: Poor effort by both CLAMP and MIXX.
Review: "Magic Knights Rayearth" takes place in two places: Present-day Tokyo, and the mystical land of Cephiro. In this tale, three girls; Hikaru, a kind hearted foureen year old, Umi, a selfish rich kid (or so she seems at first), and the kindhearted Fuu are summoned by the princess Emuraude to defend Cephiro from the sinister Zagato.

When they arrive in Cephiro, they are greeted by the mage Guru Clef. But no sooner did Clef give Hikaru the magic of fire then one of Zagato's Henchmen named Alcione appears and attacks. Umi ,Fuu, and Hikaru are forced to flee, and leave Clef behind. Will they be able to gather the powers embedded inside them to defeat Zagato? Or will Cephiro perish?

As with most CLAMP works, the art for "Magic Knights Rayearth" is geogeous. Every bit of detail, from a characters armor and weaponry, to the masterful character designs, is done beautifully. Kudo's to Mixx (I guess), for not reducing this manga to the small pocket size that they call "handy"; in this larger form, one can see all the detail of the breathtaking drawings. I don't really like Apapa's super-deformed versions of the characters, however. I prefer Nanase Ohkawa's SD's more.

The plot is rich and epic,(spanning over five volumes) and the amount of characters is vast. Unfortunatly, the execution of the plot is somewhat lacking. It seemed VERY sluggish. Characters stood around for what seemed like hours, spouting simple, pointless dialouge. Which bring me to my next compliant, the characters. I didn't like any of them. They all seemed lacking in the personalitie department. Hikaru was passable, Umi was annoying, and Fuu was boring. All the character seemed to behaved in predictable ways, which subtracted from the plot. The saving grace for this flaw was, however, no one but the great Mokona. Mokona gets my vote for cutest character. Look at him. JUST LOOK AT HIM!

I must say that I am deeply dissapointed with "Magic Knight Rayearth". During translation, MIXX has coarsened the content of "Magic Knight Rayearth". Though MIXX's transalation is an improvement compared to "Sailor Moon", it is nontheless imperfect. It seems like MIXX is getting better at translating manga, but "Magic Knight Rayearth" does not deserve to be a stepping stone. But "Magic Knight Rayearth" is a stepping stone for MIXX, who's poor translations have scored themselves yet another best-selling manga. In addition, CLAMP's effort on this manga seems rather strained. Teenage girls will enjoy this manga, but those already familar with stuff by CLAMP that is good will be disgusted. I know I was. I will not be reading any more of this series. "Magic Knight Rayearth" is not "Amazing", but rather, a money making sceme in hopes of increasing sales of Kodansha magazine in Japan, like "Sailor Moon". But unlike "Sailor Moon", "Magic Knight Rayearth" is of poor quality. Stay away.

Summary: This Book I Great!
Review: I love Rayearth! This book continues the intense story of three girls from earth who are summoned to Cephiro to become Magic Knights and save Princess Emeraude, who rules Cephiro. I love all of the great artwork in here, this is one of my favourite books. You must read it! The humour in this book is great and you really can laugh at some of the ways they draw their characters. You CAN get used to the way manga artists draw sometimes, or so I've found, though I didn't used to think so.

Summary: BEAUTIFUL!
Review: I personally am a big fan of CLAMP. And this is really one they have out done themselves. They make the art so beautiful. I love the story of this one (unlike some of the others). In Cardcaptor Sakura the thing is rushed and a little confusing (but its still is cute!) in X (X/1999) everything is long and exaggerated. Rayeath on the other hand has the things to become a good manga. Good story plot and beautiful drawings. The story is about three girls (who seem) totally different from each other. Then they were summoned to the land of Cephiro, where anything can come true. There they figure out they were there to become the Magic Knights and save Cephiro. I do have to admitt the first book was rushed. But if you love manga and want something a little different try this. This is truely high in it's class (all six books)And Mixx Manga did a good job with this one. If you wanted to see it slowed down with more detail, you should buy the movies. And if you like the music buy the CD (this stuff isn't hard to figure out.) But like I said this is truely beautiful in art and in the plot! =)

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: I was first drawn to this manga through Mixxzine, and I must say--it doesn't disappoint. The artwork is fantastic, and the story and characters are great. If you're a fan of Tolkien, anime, or Sailor Moon, I suggest you take a look at this-but buy the first volume before this one. If you love it, I suggest you buy Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind, another good-nay, AWESOME, fantasy manga.

Summary: For any Anime and Manga Lover. Go Rayearth
Review: If you are one of those people who loves Manga (Japanese motionless comics) or Anime (Japanese animation) than this is a must. Made by Clamp (an all female team based in Japan) created the manga and the 46 fascinating TV episodes. Three characters Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, and there trusty helper Mokona go to the land of Cephiro to save the Princess Emeruade. Wonderfully drawn written and animated, this is a must for any fan of Manga or Anime. This made by a shojo (girl comic) team has not only reached female readers, but also male readers in a large number. Not only because of how its written, but it was drawn to attract Male readers as well. (Got me personally! :) This is a Must
