Summary: Five Stars all the Way!
Review: This book was a great edition to my Star Wars collection. The writing style was great, the characters had much depth to them, the chronology was wonderful, and all the new characters were excellent newcomers to the Star Wars Universe. I couldn't put the book down until it was finished! If you liked this book, you should read the follow ups, Spectar of the Past and Vision of the Future! Zhan continues as good as ever!

Summary: Multiple Plots Combine For a Good Ending.
Review: This novel was a strange read. I have been a huge fan of the Star Wars films and have read the four novelizations of the films that have been currently released. I liked them and found they fleshed out the films well.

This is the first Star Wars novel that isn't already a film that I have read. It took getting used to.

At first I was apprehensive about all these new characters that were being introduced in the novel. I figured who cares? I wanted to read about Han, Leia, Luke, Chewie, etc. Not these new guys Mara, Thrawn, etc.

The writing style took some getting used to for me as well. Starting from the very beginning of the novel you get short little blurbs of what is happening to a character and the plot that is happening, then it would switch to a different character's story, then another, then yet another. It led to me not really caring about any of the characters until I had enough information (which was over halfway through the novel).

After the halfway mark I find I must have finally accepted and begun to like the new characters in the story. The major contributing factor that this was the turning point in the story was the combining of the individual character's stories. Mara ran into Luke, Han and Lando ran into Mara and Luke, the only person not really reunited near the end was Leia.

Perhaps that's why I really enjoyed the ending as everyone was practically involved. It was action intense and hyped me for the next novel. If not for the last half of the novel, I don't think I would continue woth this series, but the slow combination of separate plots made this novel interesting. It just took a while to get used to the new characters and read the Star Wars series 'in a straight novel form'.

Summary: THESE PEOPLE MUST BE STOPT!
Review: Where's the STAR WARS here? Book was boring, empty and it didnt have any of the things that the movies had. I hope that they will not make movies about these books 8non of them).

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This book is great! A wonderful place to start the Expanded Universe readings, although, some people might find it helpful to read the series' leading up to this one(the X-Wing series and the Courtship of Princess Leia) to fill in the gaps such as Leia being pregnant, etc. The one problem I had with this book was the ysalamiri. A creature able to push back the Force, just so Luke can be put in an impossible situation without his powers. Other than that it was great. I was on the edge of my seat, and couldn't put it down. A must-read for any Star Wars fan.

Summary: The best "Heir" that Lucas could want for Star Wars.
Review: Heir To The Empire was a wonderfully written book with amazing plot development and some of the best characters in sci-fi since the original Star Wars. The detail that this book gives makes you visualize every action, and what is amazing is that it so easy to see every movement and even the expressions of the intriguing characters. If George Lucas ever wrote Episode 7,8,& 9, I don't think that he could have done any better than these stories. Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command are beautifully written books. If you enjoy these, then you will also want to read the other amazing books by Zahn. Especially the Hand of Thrawn two book set which sends you into the world of the characters of this trillogy, but is set about a decade after the Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command trillogy ends. Definitly good reading for Star Wars fans and even those who are not. Definitly don't miss these books and Specter of the Past & Visions of the Future (Hand of Thrawn set). Believe me, this is some good reading, and it is packed with action, politics, and cultural knowledge, even if the cultures are not real... Zahn's details make it seem as though these people actually could be real, and in some ways those details help to make the New Republic and the Empire tangible. I certainly recommend this book.

Summary: artwork in "Heir" is much better than "Dark" & "Last"
Review: People who haven't read the books might get confused with the story line in the comic novels, but it's nice to see the artwork of all the characters introduced 5 years after the Star Wars Trilogy. This comic, in particular, does a great job of drawing the Noghri & Mara Jade. Now if only Lucas will put it on film.

Summary: One of the best
Review: This book was amazing. Zahn picked up the character's attitudes just where George Lucas left off. It was one of the best books I've read.

Summary: Hmmm...
Review: This was the book that started the EU universe (and that's not really a good thing), and I was curious to see how it all began. Most people here say that this book is the greatest of the EU stories, but I'm trying to figure out why. This book has some serious problems. First is the characterization. These aren't the people we know and love from the movies. They never said things like "Agreed" and "Affirmative". And why did Zahn start five years after ROTJ, with no explanation as to how the Rebels captured Coruscant, how Leia and Han got married, and how such characters like Mara Jade and Joruus C'baoth came to be (strange, I never heard a thing about them in the movies); yeah, I know these were all covered in other books, but why didn't Zahn just start right after ROTJ?. And now Leia's suddenly pregnant! And why is Thrawn an alien? I thought the Emperor disliked nonhumans. If so, why would he promote an alien like Thrawn to the rank of Grand Admiral? Most of the book is dreadfully boring. There are few battles, and whenever there are any, it's drawn out and dull. And, of course, Zahn thinks it's wise to create a lizard-like creature called ysalamiri, who have the ability to PUSH back the Force and make it disappear. Give me a break!

Still, though, this book has its merits, and I liked the interaction between Mara Jade and Luke. It sure beats the likes of The Crystal Star and Planet of Twilight. Joruus C'baoth was a waste of time, though, just seemed like a typical rip-off of the Emperor from ROTJ. I wish Artoo and Threepio had been included more in the story, but that's only a minor quibble. Maybe it's best to leave them alone; no telling how Zahn would have screwed them up.

Summary: It is one of those crazy Jedi things
Review: I was amazed at how good this book was! It makes all the other trilogies seem like space trash. Leia in contrary to other trilogies(Black Fleet... The Jedi acadamy...) actually wants to become a Jedi. Luke is sarcastic, rude and I loved it! This shows Luke in such a human light. There is a sly under humor and great suspence!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Exciting and nonstop thrills
Review: I really liked reading this book because it was one of the best star wars books I ever read. I liked how Luke Skywalker went back to the Dagobah System. I also liked the new villians Thrawn,Talon Karrde, and C'baoth. It was great when they went to Chewbacca's home planet Kashyyyk. The battle at the end was a good way to end the book.
