Summary: CLAMP's Magic
Review: I should begin this by admitting that I am an avid CLAMP fan. Their artwork has always been fabulous, their stories detailled and dreamy. This series, "X/1999", is no different. CLAMP combines together various elements from numerous religious interpretations of the "End of the World" masterfully in this series. The fact that many of their older works ("Tokyo Babylon", "Clamp Campus Detectives", "20 Faces Please", etc.) crossover into this story allows for die-hard fans another chance to see their favorite characters one last time, as well. Pure BONUS! Viz does a fair job of translating this work for the reader, attempting to explain in understandable words the various Japanese cultural phrases that most English-speaking audiences wouldn't understand. I *am* disappointed, however, that they do not print the character tarot card references that the original Japanese releases have on their inside covers. Perhaps Viz has plans to release the tarots for the readers to see at some later point? I would hope so, as the Cabbalist mysticism surrounding "X/1999" is a very important aspect to understanding the plot. Overall, this is an excellent series, and this volume continues that tradition nicely. This is a nicely bound book, a convienent carrying and reading size, and the price is not bad, considering the print quality. Highly recommended!

Summary: Manga Blast
Review: The fifth graphic novel in Clamp's X manga series is nothing short than stunning. The complex storyline continues to unfold as more characters are introduced into the scene and as the Seven Seals are almost complete establishing their ranks. This book shows how far Clamp has come in terms of art, and the stroyline continues to be as gripping as it was if not more. If you want to get into the X/1999 scene and don't feel like buying the other novels, this is a good place to start.

Review: This is a great series but I wish it had a bit more action and less melodramatic dreams.I do have to applaud Mixx for a very nice translation job,its tough to get all those abstract ideas americanized but Mixx does it well.I give the translation 5+ stars.

Review: This is a truly great series by CLAMP, who are truly gifted artists(though slightly disturbed by my standards). Grab every book of it that you can! Pity that Viz is about eight books behind on the translation...

Summary: X is one of the best manga's i've read
Review: X/1999 is the english-translated version of the popular X, by the manga group CLAMP. clamp is one of my favorite manga groups ever, and i highly enjoy their stories. unfortunetly, i do not necessarily applaud the decision to have MIXX translate this fabulous manga. MIXX, though they do an ok job, can definitely improve the translation here. some of the things are very "americanized" in some of their other translation jobs, such as SM and MKR. however, they do get the general plot through. i sometimes think that they could've done a better job with simple things like names, etc. (for instance, "fuma" is actually "fuuma".) and in the Sailor Moon series, Usagi (serena) is called bunny. however, i am glad that someone finally translated this fantastic work of art into english for all us english speakers. (just wish it was better translated) for the manga/art: 5 stars translation: 3 stars (could be better) for the general plotline as interpreted by Mixx: 4 stars if you can read japanese, i you can try to compare the translation with the original...
