Summary: Psychological Novel;Subplots and Furious Action
Review: X-men 2 continues with the ongoing struggle between mutants and Humans to coexist in the world. William Stryker, a secret Service agent, wants to rid mankind of all mutants.He convinces President McKenna of his plan to invade Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters where young mutants would be taught to use their powers to protect themselves from harm and to use their powers responsibly. President McKenna goes along with Stykers plan after was almost assasinated and believed it was Kurt Wagner(Night Crawler) who looks likes a blue demon and has the ability to teleport through places. The soldiers were unprepared to face Logan who can be very elusive with his speed, uncanny smell and sharp adamantium claws that go through anything. They were also unprepared to deal with Bobby Drake(IceMan) who can freeze anything, John Allardyce(Pyro) who has the ability to control fire and Peter Rasputin(Colussus) who can turn to chrome and has superhuman strength. Stykers real objective was to kidnap Xavier and use a neural inhibitor on him, so Xavier would use thier telephatic power( reading minds) to distinguish human from mutant. In doing so, mutants would all over the planet would be wiped out.The X-men become set on rescuing Xavier and also Xavier after they went to visit Magneto in his prison cell. The X-men would need Magneto's help after he escaped from prison after he revealed that he helped Xavier build cerebro. They would also need Magneto's protege, Mystique.
Th book is psychological because it goes into the characters minds and suggests why they act the way they do. Jean Grey can't stand Logan (Wolverine) leaving again because she's dealt with personal loss in her life before when he childhood friend was killed. John Allardyce(Pyro)acts cold-hearted and later turns in the book because Mary(Rogue) is with Bobbdy Drake.(Iceman)Kurt Wanger( Nightcrawler) is hesistant to trust the X-men because people in his past and have looked at him with fear and disguest with how he looks. The reason why Styker is filled wiht hatred agianst humans is because his son was born a mutant and dislikes him.
The subplots are the love triangle between Cyclops Wolverine and Jean Grey, Pyro abusing his abilities and going towards the "the dark side.' Logan (Wolverine) decides to hunt down the men responsible for turning him into what he is, only to encounter Yuriko (Lady Deathstrike) an assistant for Styker who has adamantium claws that rival his own.
There's alot more fighting in X-men 2 compared to X-Men which is good. The only complaint I have about the novel is that Beast and Gambit are included in the book when they have nothing to do with the main plot of the book. Overall, X-men 2 is an excellent novel that is worth buying.
