Summary: wonderfully entertaining
Review: what a great book -- addictively interesting, funny, and nostalgic. Many of them brought back childhood memories of the story about the guy who.....; others I'd heard told to me as fact; others were new to me. All were interesting -- highly recommended.

Summary: Comic Book
Review: What they don't tell you is that this is one big comic book! I was expecting a discussion of the legends. All this book does is present the legend in a one page "comic book" fashion. I was severly disappointed. There is no explaination, there is no history of the legend, nothing.

Summary: A friend stole this book
Review: Which shows how interesting it is. To this day I still meet people who tell me "true" stories that are obviously urban legends. The one I hear often is the "concrete in the cheating wife's car." Then of course there is the one everyone knows: "the escaped maniac with a razor-sharp hook who creeps up on the unsuspecting lovers." What I enjoyed most about this book is that there are a bunch of stories I had never heard about. I also learned you should never pass gas in a car until you turn around and make sure no one is in the backseat.

Summary: Losing our touch a bit, are we?
Review: While the "Big book of..." series contains some seriously good installments this here is sadly not one of them.
Strange, because the topic (urban legends) should have actually provided more inspipration than the offerings in the book. What's missing is the commentary. Urban legends you do get, but you get'm simply presented and even then not in the best comic form the series has accustomed us to. It's as if the contributors were dealing with this book in a "lets get this assignment out of the way" type of attitude.
Start out instead from the stunning "The big book of conspiracies" or the truly great "Big book of the unexplained" and you will spot the difference in quality too.
This here is only for the passionate collectors of the series allthough i think even they will feel a bit cheated with this one.
I know i was..

Summary: A great different type of book
Review: Yes it is in comic book format. There. I said it. But so what? I found it to be an interesting way of relating some of the most popular (and unverifiable!) stories in American folklore. The art is first rate as well. Its really a book I find hard to resist stop reading after I start.
