Summary: Not so bad
Review: By reading the other reviews, you would probably believe that Initial D was a medoicre anime for borrowing from a friend or reading in a bookstore. However, I think that these reviewers are being to specific with their problems. Sure, they changed a lot of the names of the characters to english. So what? Some of us like to read names we can relate to. So they messed up the translation? I didn't see anything wrong with the one in this book. The animation is excelent, although it is a style unlike other mangas, and the story is creative and interesting. I enjoyed Initial D, and If you don't care about perfect translations and other picky things, check this one out. Oh, and if you DO care about the translations and names, just import it. It's worth it.

Summary: Racing~
Review: Finally our Tak drove the race!
I don't want to spoil your experience, so I'm not gonna say who won the race..^^;
This volume contains one battle and one test racing.. All were greatly described and so intense. I love it.
There are one more challenger to Tak.. He drove GTR!
I can't wait to watch GTR vs. 86..

Summary: Prime example of what a company should do to make me mad.
Review: First of all, referring to this as a "100% Authentic Manga" is false advertisement. Henceforth, it should be referred to as "50% Authentic Manga" or "A Manga To Alienate The Fans" because that's what this is.

They took an excellent manga that was aimed at a teenage audience, and made several very annoying changes in an effort to market it towards a younger age group.

Disgusting.

Moving on to the content: The Initial D books are supposed to tell the story of an exciting street racing culture in the streets of Japan. The manga and anime have captivated fans all around the world. This book, however, is a poor, pitiful, wretched example of what Initial D can be.

Tokyopop really screwed this one up.

I should add that Shuichi Shigeno rocks. Tokyopop is just evil.

Summary: Hey!
Review: I think this series is very cool. I really enjoyed reading it. P.S. The car pictures are very detailed.

Summary: Tokyopop is a disgrace--avoid volume 2 and above
Review: I thought for certain the editing and Americanization of manga was over. Everything was fine with Tokyopop's new 100% manga line--even the first volume of Initial D. Then comes along this travesty courtesy of the "geniuses" at Tokyopop. The names have all been changed in this volume, even though the first volume had the correct names. The translation is nowhere near correct--you could black out the word bubbles and make up your own story and come out with a better translation than has been provided here. The disregard for the fans is flat out disgusting, and I will not be buying any more Initial D manga or anime until Tokyopop decides to correct their errors.

Please avoid this release and spread the word to anyone else who might be interested in this series. If you really love Initial D or any kind of anime/manga, you'll agree this kind of censorship cannot be tolerated. (Especially when labeled 100% authentic! What happened to truth in advertising laws!?)

Summary: Not 100% Authentic Manga
Review: Tokyopop has decided to falsely label this in their authentic manga series. This volume is NOT that. They have changed the characters names, even after using the original names in volume 1. Authentic, my foot! Support manga! But do not buy Initial D in this format. 100% isn't part of the time, Tokyopop!
