Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: DC'S BIG GUNS RE-LOADED Review: Grant Morrison's "New World Order" revives the Justice League of America with style, wit, and lots of eye-popping action (the latter courtesy of some outstanding artwork by artist Howard Porter). When the mysterious Hyperclan, a team of nomadic superhumans who evidently want nothing more nor less than to turn earth into a Utopia, touch down over the White House only DC's greatest superheroes have a chance when they step out of line. Morrison's script does a lot with limited space, and with a few deft touches turn some of the comics world's most polished icons into flesh-and-blood super *people*. These are DC's big-leaguers: Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman, and they are indeed the JLA as it was always meant to be. Having said that, the Justice Society of America actually came first and by all rights might even be more powerful than the JLA, but it is indeed the JLA that has been DC's standard-bearer since the Silver Age. And stories like "New World Order"--adventure, excitement, great interraction between disparate but unified heroes, and a world to save--are why.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Justice is done to the Justice League Review: Grant Morrison's JLA is far better than the previous ones with lightweight superheroes as Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Warrior, Nuklon, and Crimson Fox. He brings the characters as they were originally written. Although GL's one-liners may not fit well with some people, JLA defeats the previous...including Superfriends! The Wonder Twins have a lame power. This is not a cartoon for kids. This is how they were meant to be. The big guns are in and all the outcasts (Blue Devil, Crimson Fox, Firestorm, etc.) are put in the JLE (see Starman issues). I admit though that the Hyperclan are not the best villains.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Review of New World Order Review: I first read this back when Morrison's JLA era debuted in Sept. 1996. This trade encompasses issues 1-4 of Morrison's first JLA story arc. Without spoiling the ending, the Earth is visited by a group of superhumans who call themselves the Hyperclan. They want to solve the Earth's problems and bring humanity a "new golden age". The problem is that they are not what they seem and they want the JLA out of the picture. I recently purchased this trade and read it again. The story flows much better when all four parts are read in one sitting. Critics say this is not one of Morrison's best storylines but I think it is highly underrated. In the past, the JLA were nothing but a bunch of gags and overused jokes. Reader ship was sinking before DC announced Morrison would be taking over. Morrison not only made the JLA a title to be taken seriously but second tier characters such as Aquaman and Wonder Woman are given solid roles. This trade may be cheap but you get more than your money's worth.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Morrison wrote these stories in a beach... Review: I have no doubts that Grant Morrison is one of the great writers in the comics medium, with excellent works such as: Invisibles, Animal Man, Doom Patrol, etc. But, sometimes, great writers just want to get some money and get involved in works where they don't need to make much effort to be awed. This is the case of mainstream comics such is the JLA. Morrison didn't need to use his talents to write these stories, it was only to join the main DC characters together, create some villains, find a "cool" artist, and produce some silly plots... Then, he got a lot of readers... I (yes, myself) was one person that was induced, by a lot of marketing, and by the name of the author, to buy this book and the second book "American Dreams". I just have to say that I had to make a great effort to read this first book entirely, the second one starts with a story so bad that it was disgusting to finish reading the rest. I only may conclude that I was deceived! Yeah, I and many of other readers, we were conned by the Morrison's name in the cover of these comic books. This is certainly not one of the best works with JLA (the Keith Giffen one, just to mention, was by far better than this one), nor Grant Morrison's best work. Indeed, the "stories" (if we can call them this!!!) are so undeveloped that it seems to me that Morrison wrote most of them in half an hour and just sent them to the artist, with a message: "draw as it pleases you, comic moron fans will buy anyway".
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: This new JLA series is not as good as people say Review: I really do not see what people like in the newest JLA series. The art is decent, but the stories are horrible. There are NO good enemies for this team. Until someone comes up with some good villians, the JLA can never be as good as their individual members. The only good part in this book is when Batman fights alone against the villians.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Frustrating, Disappointing Review: I really don't know what so many people have seen in the JLA stories written by Grant Morrison. I, myself, was one person that was induced to bye this book and the second book "American Dreams". I have to say that I had to make an effort to read this first book entirely, the second one starts with a story so bad that I couldn't read the rest. I only may conclude that I was deceived! This is certainly not one of the best works with JLA, nor Grant Morrison's best work. I think that Grant Morrison would have write a far better work if he continued writing Vampirella books, where he was (again) by far more creative, and interesting.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Justice League Done Right! Review: I was, of course, apprehensive when I heard that Invisibles and Animal Man writer Grant Morrison was taking the reigns of JLA, and re-creating the team utilizing D.C.'s big 7 heroes: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and the Manhunter From Mars. But, I was more than pleasantly surprised by the first four issues of this title, now re-packaged in this great TPB. The team dynamics, and how the characters interact are great, but the action-packed story, and incredible plot developments are what make this story the best of the series so far. Finally, the JLA have surpassed all of their incarnations from its first in the 60s to the SuperFriends, to the lackluster Justice League America and Justice League Europe books. Highly Recommended
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Could have been much better... Review: In this new take on the original story of the JLA, writer Grant Morrison describes the battle with the alien hyperclan that forged the union of seven of earth's greatest heroes...well...he fails to please... The story is fast paced but the characters have ghostly roles that lack depth & the power to attract. Superman has grown his hair in a silly style, WonderWoman is as always abscent from the actual events...Aquaman & the Martian Manhunter are denied their distinctive introvert qualities...The Flash is supporting cast & the Green Lantern is a casual bystander. Only Batman shines in a good plot & his actions are drawn to make a difference. Morrison offered the JLA some decent stories later on but this is not the way I like to remember the start of the team... the enormously superior JLA: Year One is so breath-taking it renders Morisson's tale(& its lame artwork) rather artificial... May be necessary if you are a completist & wants to have all the issues of the JLA...I can't find any other reason for having it...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: great beginning Review: It was a great begining to the JLA series and all that I have to say is that the JLA could woop the Avengers or X-mens sorry butts any day.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent read... Review: Morrison gives us one hell of a bloody read. And for only $5.95 too. It was good ol fashioned superhero fun that I really enjoyed. Awesome charcterisation, good art and just overall greatness. I recommend it to everyone.
