Summary: a brilliant anthology from mcdonnell - so what else is new?
Review: "mutts" is the best comic strip to hit the papers since "calvin & hobbes." and the sunday editions are given their full due in this beautiful volume. most papers squeeze (and even truncate!) the strip on sunday, leaving us without the wonderful in-jokes of the title panel. here, in full and true color, and in full size, we can appreciate the humor all the better.

i hope that a second edition of sunday strips is published in the near future; i will be there to grab it up.

we love you earl & mooch!

Summary: Keep "Mutts" Coming!
Review: As a "charter" fan of Mutts I welcome this full-color gem to my collection. There's no such thing as too many Mutts: I love all the peripheral characters, although Moochie and Earl are my favorites. Now for the Y2K calendar, please, Patrick McDonnell?!

Summary: ABSURD! HILARIOUS! also, sweet, sad, and even profound...
Review: As a passionate Mutts fan from the beginning, I waited with great anticipation for this collection of Sunday comics. Read it closely; you'll find it's much more than just a comic strip...it's a gentle philosophy that sometimes touches on such topics as animal issues and pollution, all told in a soft, never strident way. But mostly, it's funny and fun you will have with the antics of Earl, Mooch and a whole cast of characters that will live in your heart forever! Take a look at some of the front pieces (before the actual strip) Some are parodies of famous art works. What a fabulous gift this would make for anyone who loves animals, art, nature and of course, humor. Please, Mr. McDonnell, keep us amused and inspired for many more years!

Summary: Yesh! The popular strip in color!
Review: I am a serious comic strip fanatic. FoxTrot is my favorite strip, but you can't beat talking animals. Mutts is a funny strip about best buddies, a dog, Earl, and a funny-talking cat, Mooch (Yesh!). Earl and Mooch go on little adventures that is sure to make you laugh. If you enjoy talking animals, you'll enjoy Mutts.

Summary: A throwback to the comics of the 1910s
Review: Imagine a comic strip created at the very end of the 20th century that greatly resembles the zany style of the classic funnies from the turn of the century. Must've made a very bittersweet nostalgic trip for the old-timers who were quite terrified of the looming Y2K as well as a new curiosity for the younger generations. Drawn in very simple shapes and written with simple gags, "Mutts" features a happy-go-lucky alley cat and his innocent-looking canine buddy who go out on the night to raid trash cans, break into a local butcher shoppe, perform long serenades to the full moon, and occasionally get whisked off into colorful fantasy adventures complete with a Buster-Brownesque punchline. A bit pretentious kind of "homage" to "the good ole days", but still a pretty amusing pastime nevertheless.

Summary: A must-have for Mutts fans.
Review: In this book, McDonnell compiles many of his Sunday strips in full color. It is not a complete collection of the Sunday strips, but it is absolutely beautiful. Anyone who loves Mutts will love this book.
