Summary: Excellent for Americans with no other tie to Anime/Manga
Review: Many Americans who aren't so hot on spending hundreds of dollars on the subbed tapes from ADV will find these graphic novels to be a great way to get the story.Also, the story isn't exactly the same as in the Anime. It's retold by the character designer. And Shinji is less of a pansy in the graphic novels :)

Review: NEON GENESIS EVANGELION IS THE MOST BREATHTAKING ANIME I HAVE EVER SEEN.THE ART WORK IS INCREDIBLE AND THE STORY IS FANTASTIC AND KEEPS YOU IN SUSPENCE AND YET A LITTLE CONFUSING.THATS THE BEST PART WHEN YOUR CONFUSED, BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW THE SECRETS AND THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO SEE MORE OF THE SERIES AND FIND OUT WHAT HAPPPENS. ANYWAY,THE NOVEL IS AS GREAT AND EXCITING AS THE ANIME THOUGH THEY HAVE A FEW DIFFERENCES, eg:the mysterious rei is piloting unit one and shinji is more confident where as in the anime his confused and scared.BUT THE GOOD PART IS THAT THE AUTHOR CONCENTRATES ON THE MAIN CHARACTER'S PERSONAL FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS AND YOU UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT THE TEXT.I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED TO EVERYONE AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE ANIME, WELL, YOU SHOULD BECAUSE ITS PACKED WITH WILD AND WONDERFUL STUFF.THE ACTION PARTS(BATTLES BETWEEN THE ANGELS AND EVAS)MAKES YOUR HEART BEAT FAST , THE SACRAFISING BITS MAKES YOU FEEL BLUE AND THE HUMOROUS PARTS MAKE YOU LAUGH BECAUSE OF THE FUNNY THINGS THE CHARACTERS DO AND SAY.EVEN AFTER THE MOVIE ,YOUR STILL SITTING ON THE COUCH AND THINKING ABOUT IT.FLASH BACKS OF THE ANIMATION START TO APPEAR ON YOUR MIND AND YOU SHUDDER OF THE EXCITING THINGS YOU SAW AND YOU EVEN WISH YOU WERE ONE OF THOSE CHARACTERS. SOME FANS WHO ARE DEADLY ATTRACTED TO THE CARTOON WILL EVEN SHIVER THROUGHOUT THE CARTOON BECAUSE ITS SO AMAZINGLY LOVELY.WHEN I FIRST SAW THE MOVIE I WAS TOTALLY ECSTATIC.THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS STORY IS THAT THE ENEMY OR ANGELS BEING DESTROYED BY THE NERV TEAM SO HUMANITY COULD BE SAVED AND THAT THE CHARACTERS FINDING THEIR REAL DESTINYS.I ENJOY WATCHING AND READING THE ANIME AND I HOPE YOU DO TOO BECAUSE ONCE YOU SEE IT YOUR HEART OPENS UP.YOUR SPIRITS ALSO RISE AND YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR PART OF THE STORY.SO WHATEVER YOU DO SEE AT LEAST ONE OF THE EPISODESTHEN YOU WILL KNOW WHAT I MEAN.APART FROM THAT IT ALSO HAS SPECTACULAR MUSIC.

If you like sadness, comedy, really cool robots, high-quality drawings and very good characters, this is the series for you!
The story: Shinji Ikari is summoned to NERV headquarters, a research organization. When he arrives, he finds out he has to run one of the robots, Unit- 01, to protect the city from monsters they call "Angels".
The main reason I liked this series is because the characters are really great. When I read a book, and the characters stink, I really don't get much out of it. When, like in Neon Genesis Evangelion, the characters are great, it really makes the story better.
There are 6 volumes in this series, so far. It isn't finished yet. I want the next to come out so badly!
This is a series that you should definitely consider buying.

Review: ok, i'm one of your normal anime lovers. i like dbz, sailor moon, gundam wing, outlaw star, magic knight rayearth, and cardcapture sakura. well, i have seen this in the store before and i wanted to buy it, but the tapes are $24.95. i don't have that kinda of money. so, i passed on getting evangelion. well, i went to the library that day. i am friends with the people in the children's section, so i went to talk w/ them. well, what do i see on the ledge behind the desk? 1-4 in the viz novel series! well, only one was ready to be checked out, so i got it, read it, loved it. i got the next 3 the next day. i loved them too. now i just need the fifth one to come out. i love the series so far. so will you. now evangelion is one my fave list. and here's a message: if you don't have the money to buy the tapes, and you parents won't let you get it here, CHECK OUT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY!! that's where i first found these.

Summary: The differences in the manga puts a whole new spin on things
Review: Rei piloting EVA 01? Shinji being just a little less wishy washy? If you love the anime series like I do, the manga is a must. The art is solid throughout and the story is why we love Neon Genesis Evangelion so very much. If you are still not convinced, there is a must read essay by Ano on the last couple of pages and it gives you a whole 'nother view of this remarkable series.

Review: Sadamato, character desgner for the anime, has taken one of the best animes of all time and made it better by telling it through the eyes of the main character, 14 yar old Shinji Ikari. If you've seen the anime, and liked it, read this!

Review: So U say U want a good graphic novel? This is it! This is one of the best manga series around! The author, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto is one of Japan's finest artists and his ability to spin the most intricate tale and create the most gorgeous characters (he really knows how to develop characters! They each have their own stories!) and THEN draw them is ab"soul"utely AmAzInG! *^.^* The first volume kind of introduces you to the world of Neo-Tokyo and then takes off right there into the story. The story itself is kind of biblical in nature and produces an interesting controversy of life. This I refuse to tell. But you are introduced to one of the best sci-fi/anime stories around so pay attention to detail because if U aren't careful, you could end up a little confused. Once U start reading, you just can't stop! But oh...when U finally understand the whole story, it REALLY is a beautiful web spun by a one-of-a-kind dreamer. U go Yoshiyuki Sadamoto! Read Evangelion, and be swept into another world...

Summary: a solid title
Review: The world as we know it is gone,only a portion of the Earths population remains and they are struggling to survive against harsh conditions and an alien enemy known only as the ANGELS.Into this backdrop comes Shinji Ikari,a 15 year old boy whose character makes him an unlikely hero and defender of the Earth.Having been abandoned at a young age by his father and growing up with a relative,he seems to lack any social skills,dreams,ambitions,or even a feeling other than pain and alianation.His father became head of a secret agency that was constucted only to battle the ANGELS with organic mecha called EVAS. The story in the volume equals that of the first and second episode of the anime series,there are subtle differences between the two which I believe will affect the manga as a whole in the long run.The art style is bare,panels on white paper,intended I believe to give an impression of the world in the comic to the reader.This isnt a bad title to buy and read,its worth it actually if you havent seen the anime or dont intend to buy it,but I dont see a reason for purchasing it if you already have the anime.Unless if you are a fan of the series of course. Overall,this is another good and solid manga title to buy if you have a few dollars lying around.After all,this is Evangelion.
