Summary: A Fantasy Classic
Review: Tolkein was such a masterful writer. His outlandish characters, colorful imaging, original settings, and mesmerizing plotlines are among some of my favorite readings.

The basic plot revolves around a young hobbit's journey with a company of thirteen dwarves and a wizard on a quest to regain the dwarven homeland. Amongst the many enemies they must face along the way are the Wargs, a vicious group of wolves; the orcs; and a fearsome and monstrous dragon named Smaug.

If you like fantasy literature in the least, you should love this book. It got me hooked on the genre, and hopefully you'll enjoy it too.

Review: Our 4th Grade thinks that this is one of those books that you should NOT go through life without either hearing or reading. We are doing both and we LOVE this story!

Summary: It was good...
Review: This book was good but kinda boring at times. I hated Chapter 7. I almost fell asleep through it. Other than that, this was a really good book. Another flaw was some of the songs and poems. Some were just too long and I really didn't wanna read them. Some were funny but..long. And how would those people think up songs so quickly like that? I know I can't do that. I couldn't make up a song if I tried for weeks. I reccomend this book to fantasy fans that have actually read alot before. If you're new to fantasy-type novels then....this is not for you. It's a great way to introduce yourself to the Lord of the Rings books. Most of the time, it'll keep you interested

Summary: Pedro's Review
Review: In every person's life there comes a time when they make the jump from children's books to real literature. It has been my experience that this jump is often caused by one book in particular. In my case this book was the Hobbit. It was fifth grade when I was first introduced to the Hobbit by my teacher who read the book to us in class. I was fascinated by the story and have read the story on my own at least five times as well as the subsequent trilogy. The Hobbit accomplishes something few books can. It draws into an entirely different world, full of advenure, magic, and wonder. The characters are so believable and authentic that we treat them as if they really exist and we are just reading accounts of there deeds as if the book were a newspaper. This world is also an improvement on our own in that this world has clear cut heroes and villains and the issues it addresses are not muddled, but are presented in black and white. The world of the Hobbit gives the reader a much nedded break from the real world and it's problems. It is a joy to read and an experience that I will treasure all the rest of my days.

Summary: An excellent book.
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes fiction/fantasy. It starts out when a hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, is drawn into an adventure, including dragons, elves, and dwarves all set in a medieval world. IF you like this book, try its sequel, The Lord of The Rings.

Summary: Another Great Book to Add to the List
Review: The main character, Bilbo, starts out hating adventure, but in the end he has a slightly different opinion. This is a wonderful fantasy filled with adventure and suspense. With zany characters that make you want to continue reading. Many people have read this book and there is a reason why.

Summary: The best J. R. R. Tolkien book out there!
Review: It's been awhile since I've read "The Hobbit", but all in all, it was a fascinating read. J. R. R. Tolkien writes incredible fantasy, especially in his vision of Middle-Earth. Bilbo Baggins is a lovable character, and Smaug, the worm, is a worthy adversary of Bilbo. The whole story is injected with humour and wry observations during Bilbo's journey. All the characters are carefully wraught through Tolkien's imagery and language. I hope to get through "The Silmarillion" (I think that's the title), but unfortunately can't get into "The Lord of the Rings". Oh well. Anyway, I truly recommend "The Hobbit" for anyone who enjoys rich fantasy!
