Summary: What an adventure!
Review: The Hobbit was an amazing book. This is a tale about a small fat person who is of the hobbit kind. His name is Bilbo Baggins. The Hobbit is an epic tale of adventure, riddles, and mystifying tales. I enjoyed this book so much that I have read it 4 times! In this story you will find the presence of Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Trolls, Dragon, and many other fantasy like creatures. I recomend this to any person who is looking for a good book.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: It was the best book that I have read in ages. It talks about this hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. You see Hobbits hated adventures, so when the famous wizard Gandalf the Grey came by, the Bilbo was wary. When he found out that he was to go on an adventure, he practicully broke down. Then, 13 dwarves came to his house. All ready to go off to the land of their ancestors. Led by their leader Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror King under the Mountain. They started on a march to go and kill the great dragon, Smaug. Smaug had stole their treasure a long time ago and they had gone off to go kill Smaug and get back the rightful treasure. THis story was sad, humourous, and very real indeed. The author is a genius writer. I just wish that he had wrote what happened after all that happened. I recommend this book to all people.

Summary: This book is awful!
Review: I am currently reading "The Hobbit" against my will. I am in an advanced reading class, and this is the "great book" that the teacher is forcing us to read and testing us over it. I am about 80 pages away from the end, and this book BITES! I cannot even concentrate on what I am reading because the book is so darn BORING! I sit there reading every single word of it, but I think about something else. I read "Bilbo blah blah blah," but think "Oh what am I gonna do today after school?" And then when it somes testing time, I cannot remember a thing I read, and the teacher thinks I didn't read it. I really, truly hate this book. This is the worst book I have ever read! It's even worse than the unabrigded version of "The Prince and The Pauper", which I was also forced to read against my will. I would have given this book zero stars, but the lowest you are allowed to go is one. DO NOT WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF WASTE.

Summary: An okay book
Review: In The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins is a normal, lazy Hobbit - until Gandalf the Wizard comes along with his band of adventurous Dwarves and ask him to help them on their quest. He, of course refuses, but after some thought about the possibility of the good outcome, he finally (but still somewhat reluctantly) agrees. The great dragon Smaug has been terrorizing the country and must be destroyed before his work of death can go any farther. Bilbo and the Dwarves go off to destroy this abomination. They are soon swept up in a quest filled with evil orcs, giant spiders, and much worse hidden dangers. Although Tolkien does well in describing the settings and characters, he doesn't really do too well with his action. Some authors, such as C.S. Lewis or J.K. Rowling, have the ability to create the sweeping kind of action that seems to just bring you along and keep you reading whether you like the story or not. J.R.R. Tolkien doesn't, no matter what you say. At the beginnning of the story, he seems to just drone on and on until by the time he's gotten to the point, you forget what he's really trying to say. Of course he does well in his description, but there is too much. And he does great while writing about the action areas, but afterwards it returns to that bleak nothingness of words that never catches your interest. J.R.R. Tolkien has created a work of art writing this book, but he fails at keeping the reader glued to the pages like some authors can.

Summary: The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!
Review: Bilbo Baggins, one of the small, fat persons called hobbits, is just minding his buisness one day when 14 dwarves arrive for breakfast! Little did Bilbo know what was in store for him. Soon Bilbo was away on a weird adventure, the story in "The Hobbit".

I liked this book because it had great characters which were described with great detail. You can see the great detail in this excerpt: " They are (or were) a little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded dwarves... They are inclined to be fat in the stomach; they dress in bright colors (chiefly green and yellow)". I liked the fact that the author described his characters with great detail. It makes the story able to come alive in your head, which helps me to understand it and be "drawn in" to the book.

I also liked that there was an incredible amount of adventure. You can see adventure in this excerpt: " It is almost dark so that its vastness can be only dimly guessed, but rising from the near side of the rocky floor there is a great glow. The glow of Smaug!". The adventure also makes you become "drawn into" the book. It makes this book a real page-turner. It also explains the characters a little bit more by how they react to situations that have high-pressure.

Although this book has excellent description, I was sometimes frustrated by the lack of suspense, especially in the beginning. You can see a little bit of dullness in this excerpt: "By some curious chance one morning long ago in the quiet of the world, when there was less noise and more green, and the hobbits were still numerous and prosperous,". The beginning makes you want to throw the book down and never pick it up again. I almost did that myself. But I suggest trying to read on. It gets very much better.

Summary: YYYAAAAAWWWWWNNNN
Review: I think that this book is THE WORST BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER READ! If you see this and are thinking of buying it, DON'T! I chose to do it for a book report because my mom liked it (what's wrong with her? ) and literally had to force myself to read it! I almost burned the stupid book and would have if it were mine. I was looking through the reviews for Dragons of Autumn Twilight and someone rated it badly because it was no "Hobbit" of "J.R.R. Tolkien" and I'm thinking THANK GOODNESS! Read Dragonlance or Tamora Pierce instead.

Summary: A Classic story for all ages!
Review: This book is great! It should be a cornerstone for future authors so they may know what true writing is all about! The book portrays the adventures of a Hobbit named Bilbo Baggins as he is hired on a quest for treasure. He finds courage and adventure in him he never knew existed until he travelled from his home to the lonely mountain, where the treasure is along with a dragon, and many more trials and tribulations on the long journey in between. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone and everyone. This book has such a faced pace edge to it that the action never stops. As soon as you think that the character couldn't possibly entangle hisself in any more ordeals, the story takes a new twist and has you on the edge of your seat. You will find yourself wanting to be right alongside the title character, Bilbo Baggins, fighting goblins and puzzling a nightmarish creature named Gollum! This book was so well written and the detail tolkein put into this book makes it immortal. You can see everything that tolkein saw when he wrote this book. I commend tolkein for such an outstanding job he did with this book. I am now a true believer in the magic.

Summary: The Hobbit
Review: In this book, J.R.R. Tolkien keeps the story flowing so thereis rarely a dull moment.

Most book readers like the flow of actionthat this book provides. Teenagers can relate to

this book because Bilbo was just about forced to go on the adventure and he had no idea

what he was getting into. The only flaws of this novel include a slow beginning and a lot

of characters to remember, although it isn't too hard to remember all of them. The novel

is well written overall. This book is adventurous, while allowing you know to it is

fiction. In conclusion, I think The Hobbit is a good example of what J.R.R. Tolkien can

write, but why stop there. There are similar books to this one, also written by J.R.R.

Tolkien, that include The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Enjoy the book!

Summary: Eric Ervine's Review of The Hobbit
Review: In my opinion, The Hobbit is one of the greatest fantasy books ever writen. One reason I liked it was because of the detail. Tolkien wrote with such precise detail and acuity that I thought that I was acually there in the middle of all the action following Bilbo the hobbit every step of the way. What each character looked like, acted like, smelled like, what they were wearing, even what weapons or tools they were carring were all described in the most precise detail. Also, Tolkien describes the settings down to the cracks in the road so anyone can just picture these places right in his or her mind. I believe that this particular piece of literature is directed toward anyone who loves to hear stories about wizards and magic and dwarves and trolls and hobbits and goblins and elves and all other manner of Middle Aged mythology. The only drawback to the entire book is the fact that it requires the reader to be at a fairly high reading level do to some of the relatively long words and odd concepts. Dispite these few troublesome qualities, The Hobbit is still one of the greatest fantasy books ever writen.
