Summary: Hobbiwhaty?
Review: Ok; for those kids who need an introduction to the Lord of the Rings, enjoy reading, hate reading, love fantasy, or simply like to have stories read to them, this is the book. It is superbly voiced by Rob Inglis, who seems to make each character distinctly stand out in your head by mere intonation. He makes the reading fun. And it's great for long car trips, because there are quite a few tapes. My kids listen to it while they are doing their chores- it keeps them from getting distracted. Now be warned: there are a few scary elements, such as wolves, nasty goblins, a slimy cannibal cave creature called Gollum, a dragon, and a large war at the end which is not described too much, but in which many people including a few main characters die. Thus, it is lot for the little kiddies as much as the 9-11 age or older.
But don't get me wrong; this book is a lot of fun for older folks, too. It is a great treatment of the hobbit for fans of Tolkien of all ages, but it isn't at all a bore for those who know nothing about the books. If you're thinking about getting the trilogy, this is a nice introduction (it differs a bit in tone and style, but it's the same world). I love this production; it's very good.

Summary: A very good fantasy book
Review: There is a little hobbit, called Bilbo Beutlin, who lives in a hole, which is very confortable.(It is like a house, but under the earth)
So, one day there came twelve gnoms and a the magician, Gandalf to this hole.
This group makes a long and dangerous Journey to the lonely mountain. On this trip, they have to fight against orks and trolls, but they also make new friends (elves and a mysterious person). During the adventure Bilbo finds a magic ring, if you put it on, you you are invisible. In the following books:The Lord of the rings, this ring plays a bigger role. I think it is a very good written fantasy-book, because it includes many funny creatures and shows a fantastic and romantic world.

Summary: I love Bilbo Baggins! *smile*
Review: My friend recommended "The Hobbit" as a perfect read for my 12 year-old daughter. I ended up reading the book first, and I simply loved it! I read the book in 50 page gulps, and my daughter wasn't even allowed near the book until I had finished it.

J. R. R. Tolkien's imagination as absolutely no limits, the language is so rich, and all the characters, from the hobbit "Bilbo", the wizard "Gandalf", to even the dragon "Smaug" are all very, very well developed.

(Get the collectors version of this book, with the absolutely beautiful, beautiful paintings/drawings. I believe they are done by the author himself!) "The Hobbit" is also the foundation for the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings". (That's my next "project").

"The Hobbit" is a great read, I promise you will enjoy it.

Highly recommended!

Summary: Tolkien and Alan Lee...a great combination!
Review: Since there are plenty of reviews on the story of The Hobbit and I could probably never do justice to J.R.R Tolkien's literary abilities, I will keep this review to the Alan Lee hard cover illustrated edition. If you've already fallen in love with the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and are looking for a beautifully illustrated edition of the Hobbit, then look no further. The Alan Lee illustrated edition of The Hobbit is nothing less than wonderful. Upon removing the dust cover you will find green cloth binding with a beautiful gold dragon engraved in the lower right corner, non other than Smaug himself. The pages are crisp and bright white. The illustrations, some in color and others black and white, are scattered generously throughout and intermingle beautifully with the story. The detail in these illustrations definately added to my enjoyment of this timeless classic. It is my understanding that Mr. Lee was in charge of designing and constructing the set for the motion picture Lord of the Rings and I can see why. He has captured Tolkien's world better than I would have thought possible. Tolkien created his Middle Earth at a time when other feet were planted firmly in this world, and in so doing opened us to a whole new experience. What a wonderful joining of talents. Who could ask for more?

Summary: a must read for every fantasy reader
Review: This is the enchanting perlude to the Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit follows a young Mr. Bilbo Baggins as he travels with 12 dwarves, and a wizard named Gandalf to get the back the dwarven gold from the evil dragon Smaug. Follow Bilbo deep into the mines of moria, where bilbo findes a ring, but what he doesn't know is that it is the one ring that belongs to the evil sauron. On his way he meets up with trolls, wood elves, and the evil creature gollem. I am a person who loves fantasy, and this is one of the gratest books I have ever read.

Summary: simply one of the best books
Review: When a little hobbit, a powerful wizard, and a band of thirteen homeless dwarves go on a quest to beat the smaug, a dragon that brings terror to the whole countryside. Will they make it there alive or will they run into the deadly orcs, wolves, giant spiders, and many other things lurking in the darkness. If you like this book here are three other books by J.R.R. Tolkien, 1.The fellowship of the ring 2.The two towers and 3.The return of the king. hope you like it as much as I did!

Summary: WARNING!
Review: I did not like this one as much as the rest of the series. It is pointed toward children, not adults so be prepared! It is still a fairly engaging read. I read it first in middle school, but then tried to re-read it now (15 years later) and could not get into it.

Summary: The Hobbit
Review: 1 wizard and 14 dwarves, how much adventure can you get from it?
The Answer is alot! A hobbit who never been on a adventure and who is convinced in going on one by one wizard named Gandalf and other Hobbits. They all head on for adventure. The Adventure includes facing fantasy monsters like Goblins, stone giants etc. The author of this book is J.R.R Tolkien, The Hobbit is the first book of the series " The lord of the Rings." There are 3 more books other than the Hobbit. The first of the three which is The Fellowship of the Rings recently just came out in the movie theater. The main character in this book is Bilbo Baggins a Hobbit. The adventure starts as soon as you pick up the book and read it.
The Movie " The Lord of the Rings : The fellowship of the Ring starts off with a brief introduction of The Hobbit a worth it movie to watch but before going to watch the movie maybe you should read the book first. The book is just as stunning as the movie.

Summary: none
Review: The hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is one of the best fictions I have ever read. If you had seen the movie Lord of the rings you must agree that he book has to be excellent. But the hobbit is a continuation of the lord of the rings but the setting is it actually before the lord of the rings. The hobbit is such a wonderful book, everything thing about it is great not just the plot but the also the setting. Tolkien creates this whole New World for all the readers to explore as they go through the book.

The 'hobbit' is about...well hobbits, hobbits are half human size and the most unmagical being and wouldn't do anything unexpected. The story is about Fordo Baggins a well respected hobbit until Gandalf the Grey somehow manages the get Fordo in an adventure that he will never forget. Fordo sets of his adventure with 13 dwarfs who wants to get their treasure back guarded by a dragon. What happens next is for you to find out hope you will enjoy your book.
