Review: A pleasant fantasy story that played an important role in developing the genre. For those readers who need something more to sink their teeth into, I'm with you. Though hobbits and dwarfs and such are cute, in a way, the themes are basic and there are deeper and richer sci-fi and fantasy stories now.

Review: I read The Hobbit last June (1997) because I was assigned to read it during the summer vacation. Back then, I was a science fiction buff (BOO HISS!) and I thought fantasy was a bore. Boy was I wrong. The Hobbit was amazing. I loved every sentence of it. When I finished it, I eagerly went on to read The Fellowship of the Ring, witch is Being the First Part of the Lord of the Rings. READ THIS BOOK!

Review: I am reading this book for the first time and I am in my early 20's. I don't know why I didn't read it when I was younger, but I think that it is exciting and very readable, even though it is a children's novel. I think that any adult who hasn't read The Hobbit yet should pick it up, because it is a fast paced adventure for all ages. I am very excited to read the rest of JRR Tolkein's writing, as I am sure that it won't disappoint.

It paints a superb picture of Middle-earth, Tolkien's brain-child, and leads nicely into The Lord Of The Rings. Summary: a rare jewel: pure story
Review: This is a lovely, charming little book. It is quick paced and very entertaining, a pleasurable respite from the often bogged down with hidden meanings of what too frequently passes for literature. I'm not trying to denegrate some high-class piece of thought-provoking insight, some Don DeLillo, some Thomas Pynchon, some William Gaddis, et. al. But how often have you picked up a book and become absorbed with a story, with what's going to actually happen next without the instrusion of some pretentious, philosophical meandering? It is a break for the serious-minded high art fan, a great read to the lowly John Grisham afficinado. All in all, a wonderful passage of time, transported to a magical place almost too real for the span of time you are being a voyuer, watching and waiting some never was characters fight never was creatures in a fundamentally never was land in this imaginative terrain that you have to believe in for such a short period of time. Going on to the massive sequal, The Lord of the Rings, you are even further left in awe of the thought and sheer imaginative brilliance Mr. Tolkien put into his life's work to create, with such immaculate detail, a new mythology for all the world to enjoy.

Summary: Struck By Lightning
Review: To read this book for the first time and enter Middle Earth is to be struck by lightning in the manner of Bilbo Baggins. Are you in a comfortable life as a student, family person, career executive or hamburger flipper? So was Bilbo in his Hobbit Hole until Gandalf the Wizard thrusts adventure upon him. May we all have such adventure thrust meaning into our lives.

Summary: Though in spots it wasn't exciting it was a great book
Review: I really liked this book. And I think people should read it. Because even though the book might have become a little dull in the middle all of the action in the other spots made up for the dull spots. :)

Review: The hobbit was a very exciting book, it might have been slow to start but when it did it was great. I can't stand how people gave it a 1 because they had to read it, you would have liked it if you weren't forced to read it.

Review: One of the many wonderful books by the author, this is a must for everyone to have read. First in a series of 4 books, it was written for a specific audience of pre and early teens, but is wonderful to read at any age. The story tends to remain with you long after you have finished the book and the basic storyline of good vs evil with the triumph of good is well told.
