Summary: If I were to get just one manga title ever, it would be this
Review: "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" is my all-time favorite. If I had the choice of picking just one manga (comic book) title ever, it is Nausicaa. Personally, I think this is Miyazaki's best work, and it did take him several years to finish the series. That's a lot of hard work right there.

It's hard to summarize the whole plot, since it is complex but somehow you do get to follow it all through, as it was well written and drawn. You get glued to it. What's interesting here is how none of the warring sides is really depicted as the "evil" nation. Imagine a huge war between 3 main groups in the future where insects are as big as whales and an atmosphere which is lethal. Picture technology that most people don't even remember how to fix. Picture Nausicaa, the princess of a tiny farming nation caught up in the middle of it all. On top of this, an "unusual storm" is building up threatening to wipe out everyone. But what really impressed me most is the bravery, courage and compassion of Nausicaa's character even toward her "enemies".

This one is truly for keeps. Beautiful and brilliant.

On a side note: The original English series is a set of seven graphic novels. This is actually the same as the re-release (Perfect Collection series) which is on four graphic novels. The Japanese manga release is also on seven graphic novels. I actually got everything except for the english original GN #5. It took me 10 years just to get all the Nausicaa manga I now have. If only they would release the DVD! What's taking so long?

What more can I say, it really is my favorite. Try it. It's what got me into Anime and Manga.

Summary: A Fantasy Masterpiece
Review: As an Avid Fantasy and Science Fiction reader, Nausicaa caught my eye at first sight. The Manga, although a Comics, has the quality and depth of a fantasy novel. Miyazaki had a phenomenal success in achieving what many good and renowned Fantasy authors failed at -- creating and portraying a believable, ORIGINAL Fantasy world, and weaving a plot that is not corny and keeps drawing the awed reader who can't have enough of it.

Mizazaky also did an excellent work at creating the character of Nausicaa herself, which is very dominant, intriguing, and special.. one of those female character which makes you fall in love with them not because of their looks but because of their attitude. If compared to the female characters from Princess Mononoke (Which has many of Nausicaa's 'things' but is not quite as good as this Manga), Nausicaa is far, far more interesting and depthful than San and Eboshi. The Art itself is in par with the rest of Miyazaki's work, and serves the purpose of portraying the world around Nausicaa. The openning sequence, where Nausicaa glides into the forest and picks up Fungus spores, is a perfect demonstration of this. I think no author could describe the Forest and the insects infesting it as well as Miyazaki's illustrations. The images are a little blurry at times, but once again - they serve a purpose, they're not the purpose itself.

TO SUM THINGS UP, even if you're a Fantasy-lover and not a Comics fan, Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind is your best choice. It is probably one of the BEST in its genres, and it recieves my highest praises -- and deserves them.

Summary: I've nothing more to say...
Review: I've read Ghost in the shell, Dominion 1/2 Ranma, Tintin and many others, but this is the only graphical novel I've ever read that has actually FORCED me to get INVOLVED in the storyline. I don't think I'm the only one who dislike and feel sorry for Kushana at the same time.... Besides, the plot twists make this novel one of the best you will have the opportunity to read - ever. I hope they'll release the author's movies too.

Summary: STUNNING ... in the most literal sense of the word!
Review: I read this, the last book, before reading the rest of the series, because I got the chance and wished to read more of Hayao Miyazaki's work. Despite this, I followed the story fairly well to its conclusion, which was just as - or more - shocking than the end of any other story I've read, seen, or heard. I highly recommend this, or any of Hayao Miyazaki's other works, including Princess Mononoke, which should be out on video and DVD August of the year 2000 ... it is the sister story to Nausicaa and together, they make the most brilliant pair I have ever experienced!

Summary: This is not a review, it's a standing ovation!
Review: When I was very young I saw the movie The Warriors of the Wind(which is based on Nausicaa)on cable. I was mesmerized, I had never seen anything like it. When they repeated it a few hours later I had my mother tape it(I was too young to understand the controls). I've had that tape for almost two decades, it's clearly marked with bold lettering "DO NOT TAPE OVER!" and I've watched it more times than I can count, I've literally almost worn it out. It has never lost a bit of its magic over me, in fact I enjoy it more now that I can understand all it's themes.

Then about a year ago I was walking through a book store and spotted the first volume of the perfect collection out of the corner of my eye. The art work on the cover was unmistakeable, I picked it up thinking it was a novelization of the movie. Imagine my suprise when I saw it was a comic book! But comic book or no, it was my all time favorite story so I bought it. Flash forward 4 hours, I finished the first volume in one sitting. Just 1/4 of the way through the books, I knew that the movie was like a pale shadow in comparison, the comic was much, much deeper, at the same time darker and more hopeful. I immediately ordered the rest of the series and was similarly blown away by volumes 2,3, and 4. The movie is a great story but the comic is an epic, legitimately compared to Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series and all the great works of literature. Don't let it's medium, comics, turn you away. Yes most comics are trash but then again so are most novels, the medium is independent from the content. In fact you might want to read Scott McCloud's book Understanding Comics (also available at Amazon) just to prepare yourself for Nausicaa.

I've read through all the previous glowing reviews (and there are a lot of them) and I won't rehash all that praise here. Just wanted to say that something about this series strikes a chord with people, it touches them, and when they finish it they mourn that its over. It's a story you don't want to end, in fact you might find yourself slowing down as you read, savoring the intricate art work, trying to delay the inevitable last page. But don't fret, if you buy the series you can have it on you bookshelf forever and you can go back to the elysian-like Valley of the Wind, hop onto the mehve and fly like a bird, man the controls of a gunship straight out of Mad Max, sleep in the palm of the hand of a monster that can destroy the world(and once almost did)but who's as innocent as a child, venture into the dark heart of the Crypt of Shuwa and come face to face with the embodiment of evil, charge into a huge battle with a mix of futuristic and medieval weaponry, or brave the strange, dangerous and heart breakingly beautiful Sea of Corruption anytime you want.

Highest Possible Recommendation!

Summary: Wow...
Review: I'm somewhat newcomer to the works of Miyazaki. I managed to see Princess Mononoke in December and instantly fell in love with Miyazaki's work (Princess Mononoke is my personal favorite movie of all time). Since then I've tried to see anything made by Studio Ghibli. While doing so I manged to get my hands on the Nausicaa movie. I would highly suggest that for ayone who liked Mononoke. But stay away from the dub of it (I think it's called Warriors of the Wind) the dub was apparently ripped to shreads, missing about 1/4 of the movie. I also managed to read a single copy of the Nausicaa Manga, and it was worth the waiting for it. This is the best Manga I've ever read

Summary: The most obsorbing book I've read to date
Review: If a graphic novel could ever be considered a great work of litterature, then that graphic novel would be Nausicaa. It is an engrossing story with well developed, likable characters.

Summary: Have seen all his wrks but this is the best
Review: I have grown up whatching Miyazaki san's work. From totoro to laputa and more. All his works leaves you thinking and it can't get out of ones head. but only last year I found that he had comics! As I read his work was even better. The other work he's done is a bit happy happy dixieland but this one was portraying the truth in land corruption and the "maybe" future of man kind if the pollution doesn't stop. Conlcuding, Miyazaki Hayao san's work is all great filled with vivid land scape unforgetable characters, but the most important part is that it has theme of naturalism, but Nausicaa is the most vivid more unforgettbale and most naturalistic viewed book/manga/epic/movie you will ever see.
