Summary: Clamp's best work
Review: This series is clamp's best work,it has everything a manga reader could possibly want, Action, Mystery Romance,a complex storyline and outstanding artwork yet even though this series is near perfect,it is not for everyone, this book dosen't contain much violence compared to the others, which feature high levels of gore, and some mild nudity, but since it is an all-female team you can't call it perverted and the violence is elegant and beautiful.this book starts the series of twenty-two books(one for each of the major arcana of the tarot)by introducing the three main characters of the book,Kamui, who has returned to Tokyo after the death of his mother to protect his childhood friends Fuma and Kotori who are the other two characters introduced in this book along with a few others,if you buy this book and read it thinking it is linear and stupid read the other books and see for yourself how good the series gets.

Summary: Best Manga ever written
Review: This series is the nest manga, and one of my favorite books, of all time. It's compelling story and amazing artwork (by CLAMP) is sure to be loved by the average person. not for little children, these books do have some gorey violence, cursing, and female nudity. Buy this book! You're sure to be enthralled by the mysterious Kamui, and his unknown fate in the end of the world . . .

Summary: Clamp KNOWS how to grab people's heart.
Review: X, or X-1999 is a well structured story. In the story, Clamp often leads reader to believe the story will end one way, but destroys the reader's fantacies in the following few pages. I already read 13 books of X-1999, and I never found out what's going to be the ending. It's one of the stories which the ending is not for the readers to determin. One must read till the end to know what's going to happen to all characters. Clamp has the ability to grab the readers once we get hold of the book. I can never read enough, and am always hoping for more... Buy it, the stories are emazing. Also recomand RG Veda and Tokyo Babylon from Clamp. . . . .

Summary: Excellent but somewhat Confusing
Review: X/1999 is a wonderful, compelling series that almost anyone could enjoy. But its not for children under, say, 10 - 12 because there is language, violence and nudity. For those of you that don't know, X/1999 is about the earth ending, and 7 members of the dragons of earth, who want to destroy the earth and start over, and 7 of the dragons of heaven, who want to keep the earth as it is. They are all chosen, but one, Kamui, was chosen for both, and has the power to decide which will happen, but frankly, he doesn't care about it or anything but himself. If you like sci-fi/fantasy (sorcery ect.) and a touch of romance, you'll love this.

Summary: X-cellent!
Review: X/1999 is about Kamui Shiro, the main character, who's being followed by people who would like him to side with them in battle. Oh, there's much more to it, but that's all you could really learn from Prelude. It provides a mysterious introduction and just travels deeper into it as the series progresses.

Once again, Clamp has created a noteworthy masterpiece of a story (I've read the next few). And the art is stunningly detailed, and it only enhances the mysterious effect that the plot seems to radiate. In this first volume, Kamui returns to Tokyo, and despite that he hasn't told anyone, his childhood girlfriend, Kotori sensed his return because he appeared in a dream of hers. She tells her brother Fuma, and Fuma meets him on the schoolgrounds. Apparently, Kamui has also re-enrolled in school, but he warns his childhood friends to stay away from him. Why? You'll find out later in the next few volumes.

Anyway, back to the summary ... Kamui is chased by warrior minions, and he appears to be a cruel person. (Note: This is just the beginning. All is revealed in due time as the series progresses.) However, it is evident that he still cares about Fuma and Kotori.

This manga is more into the mystery and action genres, not much comedy or romance. But, it's complex plot draws readers in, and it's hard not to fall for it like other great manga (for me, Fushigi Yuugi, Sorcerer Hunters, Oh, My Goddess!, Cardcaptor Sakura--X/1999 is very different from these but still keeps me scrounging up money to get the newest volumes). I recommend it for readers ages 13 & up because it can be a bit gory, and the situation in these graphic novels probably isn't very comprehensible to younger readers.

Summary: THIS IS A CLASSIC! ONE OF THE BEST MANGA'S AROUND!
Review: X/1999 is an awesome story about the end of the world...while it is a bit graphic in some parts, it is strangely beautifully done....the art work is absolutely stunning! It's something you need to just plow through...and while it's hard to understand at first, you really get into it when you see what everything is like...when the plot thickens...

Summary: This is a must have book!!!!
Review: X/1999 is the best!!!! With it's easy to follow plot and beautiful art work! Clamp has outdone themselves once more in creating X/1999!
I have yet to go with my reading and I want more!!!! It's soooooooo good. I've read this book and I want to comment on it. Very good!!!!! Basicly a young man named Kamui or how do you spell it comes back to Tokyo after leaving it. He came alone becuase a fire claimed his mothers life and he doesn't know who his father was. Kamui's childhood friends, Kontori and Fuma get to see Kamui again but this time Kamui is different. Something happened to Kontori and Fuma's mother and so that's why Kamui's mother took him and moved away. Lots of blood and stuff but I could handle it. What lays ahead for Kamui?

" THEIR DESTINY WAS FOREORDAINED."
"Till that promised day in 1999......your fate....it's waiting."

Summary: X: The End of the World
Review: X/1999 is the English version of a popular Japanese manga by an all woman group called Clamp. The story is about fate and the end of the world. Two women see the future, how the world will end, and both see different visions. The only thing in common with their visions is that both have the same cast of characters, and in both the future depends all on one man. These two women both join the side that they think will overcome when the world ends, and both try to enlist that one man to their side. The poor guy is left with the choice to destroy the world or become it's savior.

I give it a 10. It's a definite page turner that keeps you guessing.

Summary: great art--but the story's slow
Review: X/1999, regarded by many as CLAMP's masterwork (alongside Tokyo Babylon), is undoubtedly a gorgeous manga. I've yet to see art that equals it. But a look at the title alone should let you know how incredibly slowly this series moves: "1999?" Isn't it almost 2002 now? And the final battle *still* hasn't come for our intrepid heroes (and anti-heroes).

Don't get me wrong. The series is engrossing. But it seems like CLAMP is trying to build on the popularity of Tokyo Babylon, which was a well-contained series with an obvious beginning and end, with this manga that appears to have neither. The talented women of CLAMP have brought in old favorite characters such as Sumeragi Subaru and Sakurazuka Seishirou, as well as introduced some very interesting new people - Sorata's my personal favorite. But the cast of characters is undoubtedly too big, and CLAMP seems intent on bringing in new people all the time, which only makes the already-burdened plot more cumbersome and difficult to follow.

So why did I give it four stars? Because, in spite of all this, the manga *is* fascinating--true, we've been waiting for years for Kamui's final battle, but once you start you can't stop; you can only sigh and agree to wait as many years as it takes. My main complaint is that the English translations are so slow in coming--X is up to Volume 17 in the original Japanse (yes, 17--you're not even halfway there, kiddies, and there's no end in sight), while we're still waiting for the release of Vol. 8. That's too slow! I'm hooked! I need more - fast! Not to mention the fact that the American publishers appear to have cut key scenes that might "offend" an American audience, such as ones containing homosexual implications/content (be prepared for tons of that in CLAMP--especially Tokyo Babylon, which is largely based on the love affair between Subaru and Seishirou).

So it appears that X, while great, is a lifetime commitment for readers. Be sure it's one you're willing to make, since these volumes don't come cheap--and if you understand Japanese, or are able to find online translations (they *do* exist), I would highly recommend buying the manga in the original language.
