Summary: This book has now made me a hardcore X/1999 fan...
Review: Ah, yes!! My X/1999: Prelude just arrived in the mail yesterday. I immediate tore open the packaging and drooled as I opened the cover, and boy was I blown away! The art is awesome, and the story had me hypnotized. I'm definitely getting the next installment of the series, X: Overture. I'd recomment this graphic novel for any comic fans. You will not be disappointed. (Only drawback was that it was B&W. If it was in color, I think I'd marry it.)

- "Dink", 14 yrs old, anime/manga freak.

Summary: X/1999
Review: CLAMP has done it again. X is the story of the apacolypse and the ned of the world. Kamui, a young, 16 year old boy w/ phsycic powers is the one who can chose to save or destroy the human race. Talk about decisions. Still not interested? Well, the artwork in this manga is beautiful, top notch. And w/ the reputation that clamp has for such works as Magic Knight Rayearth, Clover and Cardcaptor Sakyra, how can you go wrong? X/1999 is a MUST have.

Summary: One of the best mangas I've read
Review: First off, this is not a typical CLAMP manga. It's a very dark manga with a dark storyline. The artwork is wonderful though and I have to say that this is by far my favorite manga. The first book is sort of slow plotwise, but if you're dedicated to the series, you don't really seem to notice. It likes to keep you guessing about certain aspects of the storyline (I only have volumes 1-4 at the moment). I wholeheartedly recommend this manga as long as you're no squeamish. There are sections that get sort of gruesome, but they do play a part in the story, they're not just thrown in there for the sake of violence.

Bottom line: The storyline is wonderful and the art is beautiful (in typical CLAMP fashion). It's not the happiest manga and can be downright depressing at times, but there is humor (that doesn't take away from the seriousness of the plot). Don't get this manga if you're at all squeamish (there are two scenes that occur that are gruesome-and are scene multiple times in flashbacks). However, like I said, this my favorite manga and is a definite must-have.

Summary: Magic, Mystery, and the End of the World!!!
Review: For anyone who is a fan of CLAMP, Takahashi, or any kind of shojo or shonen manga, this is the book for you! Full of magic, tactful violence, and beautifully dark art, X/1999 is not something you would normally find in American CLAMP. Unlike Card Captor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth [both of which I recommend to those who have weak stomachs], X/1999 is deep, thoughtful, and gruesome. Not only the images, but the storyline provoke deep intullectual thought about the world and the people living in it. If you are willing to buy only one manga, this is the one you want. The only problem is that when you finish, you'll want to read the entire series...

Summary: another masterpiece from clamp
Review: i am a big fan of clamps work and i have to say they rarely do anything badly.the story is about 2 groups each made up of 6 members and a seer, one is trying to destroy the earth and humanity in order to purify it,and the other is trying to save the earth and mankind from total destruction by the hands of the first group.the catch here is that kamui, the hero,is the balancer of each group.that is he is the one who will choose wither to save the earth or destroy it.because both groups need a seventh member.this story is full of mystery, suspense, love and clamps beautiful artwork and exceptional story.i cant recommend this work enough.any one who loves manga has to read this novel and watch its anime.i just hope you dont mind alittle blood and lots of destruction.he he he.

Summary: Maybe it was just the formatting, but.. eh.
Review: I bought this volume on a whim, mostly because I've heard so much about the series X and how wonderful it was. I've been a huge fan of CLAMP's work for several years, both manga and anime versions, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with this one.

As it turned out, I gave this a brief reading and ended up burying it in the far corners of my bookshelves, never to be seen again.

I have seen the X movie and the entire X tv series, and I found the storyline and artwork to be amazingly good. However, the manga hasn't lived up to my expectations. I haven't looked at the actual Japanese edition of the manga yet, but I think that my biggest problem with the story was the formatting Viz used for this volume. The pages are dark black, the font is that awful "American comics" standard font (which I truly do not think goes well with Japanese-style artwork), and I had a headache just trying to read it.

I'm going to purchase the original Japanese manga, because anything has to be better than this. ^_^; If you don't mind American comics-style graphic novels, this volume probably wouldn't annoy you, but for me, it was just too much.

Summary: Kamui is cool! the artwork....*drools*
Review: i first bought this manga for the art alone...cause i like thatstuff. the art is fantastic! Clamp always does a beautiful job!anyways...the story...it kind of jumps right into it...Kamui(maincharacter) has returned to Tokyo after a six year absent. Well, he runs into trouble, of course, with some magicians. basically..kamui has the power to either save the earth or destroy it. the two sides of the magicians, the angels and the demons, are fighting over who gets kamui...apparently they need him to either save the earth or destroy it. This is reallly simplifed! The artwork is great but only if you like that pretty not very realistic style...the story is interesting..although at times it's hard to tell what's happening with all the Woosh! (and) Whoom! going on...i'm buying the next volume...

Summary: I'm rather indifferent to this manga so far
Review: I hate to say it after being told how good this manga was but I had a hard time making it through the first volume with out falling asleep(which is rather short). I'll still buy the second volume to see if it gets better(the first Gunnm(Battle Angel) wasn't so hot either but improved by leaps and bounds by the second volume). And I am slightly interesting in what happens to the characters. But for the most part the story telling fell flat.
