Rating: Summary: repetative Review: I just started reading DD and collecting all the trades I could lay my hands on, in other words I read "Guardian Devil" and "Born Again" within a week of each other. Kevin Smith certainly gave credit where credit was due by having multiple characters make references to "Born Again" but this story simply pales beside the work it was derived from. This has happened before, the reader knows it, Matt knows it and it just doesn't have the same punch as the first time around for either.
Rating: Summary: Decent Daredevil story, destroyed by the graphics Review: I only recently discovered Daredevil (ironically enough, NOT because of the movie), but since then I've read every DD comic I could get my hands on through the library - which is most of them. I particularly enjoyed Frank Miller's "Man Without Fear" and "Born Again." "Parts of a Hole" and "Underboss" were also quite good. This story was - ok. It had a lot to say, and it said it well, and it has lots of repercussions for future storylines, which a less daring author/publisher might not have allowed. But the characterization of DD was... I guess he just wasn't Frank Miller's Daredevil - the one who repeatedly tried to tell an assassin, "I don't want to kill you. Let her go." He wasn't the Daredevil I fell in love with. Mostly, though, I couldn't enjoy the story because of the drawings. The scenery, as I recall, was ok, but the characters were annoyingly caricature-like. Meaning, the characters (DD, in particular) have feet and hands that are very disproportional to the rest of their bodies. And Matt is repeatedly drawn with cataracts. Why is that? And that's not to mention the perpetually-furrowed brow (caused, apparently, by the effort involved in always rolling his eyes back. The eyes of the blind sometimes do roll back, but I can't imagine that there would be much muscular effort involved). And lets not go into the perpetual sneer... All in all - decent story, fair characterization, bad graphics, okay book.
Rating: Summary: Definitive Daredevil Review: I suggest to fellow reader & buyer who is interested to buy this particular title to instead go to "Daredevil: the man without fear !" by Kevin Smith, amazon price at $20.99 ($29.99). To clarify a thing or two. This book actual title is Daredevil vol. 1 Hardcover. It contain issues of entire Kevin Smith run issue #1-8 & david Mack other runs. From issue # 9-12, 14-15. But to easily go there if you are interested pls. type as I'd mention above under the "............". The reason I'm recommending this book instead, is because this version is HC, has more issues including David Mack's run. The HC version is a highly recommended reading. If you will, I suggest you browse through that version instead.
Rating: Summary: disappointed Review: I think Quesada should stick with doing covers, because it is very difficult to know what is going on when he tries to tell a story between them. And Kevin Smith should stick with movies... then again, after seeing Jay and Silent Bob, maybe he should retire all together.

Rating: Summary: No rest for the wicked Review: I'm not much of a comic book fan,but I DO enjoy the horned one.My lord,Frank Miller's DD works are legendary.Heck! His BORN AGAIN saga is a masterpiece!Well,I picked this up after hearing how closely it resembled that milestone.I wouldn't say that, but this is a cool, provoking read!Kevin Smith IS a fine writer, and I also wouldn't say I think he's ripping off Miller.More of a homage.Smith was a fan of DD for a long time prior and,of course,he probably is in awe of Miller like the rest of us.Beautiful artwork and great plot and dialogue....
Rating: Summary: Cheap Rehash of Frank Miller glory Review: I'm sorry but all the smoke that gets blown up Kevin Smith's... for this book is unjustified. First, the only reason I gave the book 2 stars is because of the great art(coloring included). I bought this book on a recomendation from a friend and was close to being offended. Having read and loved the Frank Miller DD run it seemed to me it had been done before. Gee, Bullseye killing DD's love interest, where have I seen that before? I don't mean to be rude, but that is just one (of many) instance of similarities. Also, didn't I read recently that Kevin Smith wanted to have a challenge? Why doesn't he try to make up his own characters instead of ripping off people that worked hard for their name in this industry. Try going to work for ABC(America's Best Comics) for a change with your own characters. Maybe THAT would be a challenge?
Rating: Summary: Good But Not Great Review: I've been hearing rave reviews on Kevin Smith's movies and his so-called comic book references in his movies. Now that he got his hands on writing comics, I assumed that this would be the person with the caliber of Alan Moore or Frank Miller to start such a hype among comic and movie fans alike. Well, storylinewise, it seems that Smith tried to emulate the grim and gritty approach a la Miller, yet in doing so his story tends to get hackneyed with the notion of been there and done that to the readers. It is so apparent that Smith tried to dramatize the event by cramming up his story with too many shallow subplots before pulling the plug on Karen Page. Everything in the book feels just so-so, or perhaps I was expecting too much from a writer whose reputation has gone far beyond comic book.
Rating: Summary: Frank Miller would be proud! Review: If you aren't a fan of deep, moving, poniant stories, then this book isn't for you. This book made me remember just why I love Daredevil, and comics in general! Kevin Smith's writing is second only to Frank Miller in capturing the essence of the character, not to mention the WONDERFULLY lavish art by Quesada and Palmiotti! If you miss this one, you'll hate yourself!
Rating: Summary: Not to be placed with Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns. Review: In case you are wondering this is the same Kevin Smith who made Mallrats and Dogma, two very lousy films. His comic book writing is not much better. I've read better daredevil stories then this one, and the fact is sales of the DD comic have not increased because of this story. The issues were always late in shipping and the final climax is uneventful and a waste of time. Everything Marvel does these days is over-rated and getting low budget film makers to write comics is not a constructive approach either. I can not reccomand this book.
