Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: My friend enjoyed it. Review: A friend gave me this as a gift because I was/am a big fan of Nirvana. Honestly, I couldn't even get through half of it. It read as no more than a comic done by a junior high schooler. However, I should say that this isn't the type of book I usually buy. I passed it on to another friend and he said he enjoyed it very much. He said the illustrations were brilliant. Therefore, I'll give it three stars. Not my cup of tea, but someone else was able to enjoy my copy.

It looks like some angst-ridden 14 or 15 year old did this in between high school classes because he was too angst-ridden to do anything else but draw angst-ridden pictures of Kurt Cobain. For the naked-and-crying only.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: exaggerated rockstar fairy tale- Review: I am happy to see that a graphic piece of material documenting my late half-brother's life has been established. However, I am sad to see how poorly the way his life has been presented. He did have a life at a point, he was simple, reserved, and willing to be famous. He was not this depressed Kurt Cobain that lived in a raw awesome rock god heroin chic torpor. He may of been an exhibitionist, talented, and downright "cool", but his way of living was quite simple before mother goose came in with her drug cocktail. Courtney being thrown in as the sole angel and peace maker in the story makes me leary ("Kurt! No Heroin! Stop it!"), as she exploits Kurt's massive fantastic rock star guts every day and hates herself more than Morrisey at the same time. Rock has gotten so polished, sanded, rock is the raw emotion- so raw that there is only little to be felt/seen/heard/stolen, and when we rip rock down so many times, we ask ourselves, what can there be left?
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Creative and Surprisingly Moving Tribute Review: I received GODSPEED as an unexpected birthday gift. I'm a huge Nirvana fan with a pretty beefy collection of biographies, novels, essays, articles, etc. based upon Kurt and Nirvana. This truly was the gift for the grrrl who had everything. If you are unfamiliar with Kurt Cobain's life, GODSPEED should not be your first read. Read Heavier Than Heaven (by Charles Cross), and once you've done that, pick up this graphic novel. Prior reviews have bashed this book as being "an exaggerated tale" and "over-the-top." NEWSFLASH: it's a comic book. Not a biography, not sacred text...a comic. Heros are exaggerated, rivals are morphed into treacherous villains. There is not grey, only black and white. This particular comic is chock full of fantastic art, moving imagery and composition, all while remaining fairly truthful to what is known about Kurt's life. (It even includes a reference to the little known cassette recordings Kurt's aunt still owns...in which Kurt is calling out to Boddah...who he thinks is speaking to him on the recorder.) That said, there are those of you who are just too cool to take a breather and read this fairly light booklet. So don't. But those of you who take yourselves less seriously, give it a look. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A fitting tribute... Review: I've always felt that graphic novels have the ability to bring a story to life like no other medium possibly can - and Godspeed is no exception. Whether you're a first-timer to the comic book genre, or an avid collector, you won't be disappointed with Flameboy et al's exceptional first graphic. The responsibility was heavy, but these guys shouldn't let any fans down. Whatever your take on how Cobain's life ended, the graphic stands alone as a respectful and fitting tribute. Godspeed is as unique and powerful as Cobain's life itself - the darkness and the pain, the joy and adulation, the vulnerability and self-loathing - it's all there, screaming at you with a sometimes eye-watering intensity from each brilliantly inked and cleverly penned page. Don't be fooled...these guys know their Cobain. For me, Godspeed is more than a graphic - it's an experience, a journey...and a very fitting tribute to a talented, tortured genius.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I love this book Review: I've been a Nirvana fan for a long time but had been reluctant to buy Godspeed untill I read of the illustrator's death on a few websites(www.kitty radio.com being one).I was suprised to find how much I enjoyed reading it. Well, 'enjoyed' is not the right word, ...I think experience is a better desciption. It made me cry. This book really touched me . If is true that Flameboy recently committed suicide , then it makes this book is all the more unsettling & somewhat spooky.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: in responce to the responce Review: Like in the last responce, that first letter is fake. i wanted to make sure they both werent fake. but any way kurts name was 'kurt D. Cobain' that no siblings of his had the same initials. but anyway the book is good. it is just a comic so dont listen to these other people i liked it and im a VERY big kurt cobain fan. this did not seem like it offended kurt cobain, it just exagerated the truth...alot
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Check it out for yourself Review: Suggest you first check out Flameboy's (the artist's) page at his website http://www.flameboycomics.com/News2.html. This provides a bit of background to how and why 'Godspeed' was created. You can also email Flameboy your comments and feedback at his site. I think he sums it up when he says that Godspeed isn't meant to be the last word on Cobain's life - it's just another take on it. No offence to Kimberley. For me, Godspeed is well worth the read. The art is great, and the story is interesting and moving, whether you're a Cobain/Nirvana fan or not.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Good graphics - but mainly a fairy tale Review: The graphics in this book are excellently done, while the prose in the introduction is well-written, and in some cases hits the nail right on the head (such as when they speak of Cobain's genius, legend, etc.), but I disagree with the assertions made, especially that Cobain suffered from 'mental illness'. There are several comments that are pure speculation, as are several parts of the book itself. I also see a great similarity to the storyline of Godspeed to that of the Cross book Heavier Than Heaven, which in many minds, mine included, is a heavily fictionalized account of Cobain's life and death. While one might want to add this well-drawn to their collection, they should view it more as art-fiction, than anything resembling reality.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: In Response to "Kimberly D. Cobain" Review: This book was great. Do not listen to Kimberly D. Cobain, she is a fake. She says that she was Kurt's half sister, while any dedicated Nirvana fan would know that Kim is Kurt's sister, not half-sister (They both had the same mother and father). So do not listen to her, and read this book.
