Summary: A manual to explain the danger of Corporatism to America
Review: I could not possibly write a better reveiw than the amazing job done by Mr. Sweet, however, I would like to add that this book is a "sutra" stitching together many related but sometimes isolated ideas into one, complete, distillation of the dangers we face if our TV culture continues to sleep while the forces of non-human mulitnational corporations continue to take over the "commons", as Thom says, of our nation.

Thom's book will help you explain to others how our our health, our jobs, our infrastructure and even our democracy are at risk from the undue influence of money and power in our culture. Only a managed capitalism can preserve the middle class and prevent the powerful marriage of government and corporate interests from enslaving the rest of us.

"WE the People" summarizes and illustrates the danger of our current situation. As "Ma" says in the close of the movie The Grapes of Wrath, "we will always be here, because we're the people." But only a government that responds more to "We the People" than to corporate intersts, can protect us from being reduced to third world workers to be exploited and reduced to rows of numbers in a spreadsheet with few rights or opportunities. The only defense we have is our vote: use it.

Summary: Simple, Eloquent and Amazing.
Review: I found this book at a small boutique, picked it up and stood there for 30 minutes reading it before I realized I was entranced. A lot of the concepts in this book were not new to me but the way they were organized and presented was new to me. It was clear and made sense. Very well done. I am on Amazon.com ordering 2 copies to send to friends. This is must have information. The book not only effectively presents this information but it also gives constructive instructions so that the reader feels empowered rather than overwhelmed. I would recommend this book to everyone... and I do.

Summary: Powerful, Brilliant, Moving, Must Read
Review: If you Haven't read a any of the Thom Hartmann Books, you are in for a real treat. Thom's Newest book, We The People: A Call To Take Back America," is simply must reading. It's not quite describable, but a cross between animated comic and Japanese anime art, but it's talking about all the political and democracy issues that Thom takes on so well-- corporate personhood, the right wing threat to democracy, selling off the commons, how the founders, particularly Jefferson, of America would have viewed today's situations....

I've reprinted just about every article Thom publishes lately, on my progressive. tough liberal website OpEdNews dot com, where I am editor publisher. His articles are always among the most popular. (They are usually first published on CommonDreams dot org.) If you know Thom's work, whether his brilliant books, Last Hours or Unequal Protection, or his OpEd articles, you'll want to be sure to get this newest book. You'll be very glad you did. If you're smart, you'll order two or three, since you're definitely going to want to pass them out to people you care about.

I don't think anyone discusses democracy, not any pundit or politician alive, than Thom Hartmann. He approaches his subject matters with vision, depth of history, compassion and intelligence. He says he comes from the "radical middle" and it's true. his positions are ones the average person agrees with-- filled with common sense and great wisdom.

You'll want to hide this book from your right wing relatives... just getting a look at it will be like a punch in the face, or... a flush of blood to the brain. But you'll want to get lots of copies to give to your friends. I'm getting a copy for each of my kids (23, 20 and 14.)

Frankly, when I heard that some of Thom's writing had been adapted to a comic format, I was skeptical. But it's been brilliantly done. The originally ideas that were in Thom's essays are actually improved upon by the creative imagination of his editors and illustrator-- Gene Latimer (Editor), Paul Burke (Editor), Neil Cohn (Illustrator.)

Don't think of this is a comic book. Think of it as a hyper-idea media document that will rivet your attention and move you to passion. This is a powerful book that will make a difference.

Summary: Addresses the dangers of losing our democratic liberties
Review: Impressively written by Thom Hartmann, nicely illustrated by Neil Cohen in a "reader friendly "graphic novel" format, then collaboratively adapted and edited by Gene Latimer and Paul Burke, We The People: A Call To Take Back America directly addresses the dangers of losing our democratic liberties from a variety of corrosive influences including corporate special interest groups who finance and exploit the fears and intolerance that so often separate the political right from the political left. Only a "radical middle" can restore and defend the principals of fair and democratic government against the growing temptations of fascism. If you are a social activist committed to good government and the constitutional rules set out in order to promote "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", or simply someone who has become aware of, and concerned about, the increasing political polarization of our country, the read We The People: A Call To Take Back America.

Summary: ENLIGHTENING ENTERTAINMENT
Review: Once, the distinguished Australian filmmaker Peter Weir said that the job of making a film is to entertain -- and not to lecture. But if a filmmaker can teach in addition to entertaining then that's even better.

Thom Hartmann's "We the People: A Call to Take Back America" entertains and teaches. Brilliantly illustrated by Neil Cohn and co-edited with Gene Latimer and Paul Burke, "We the People ..." uses the vehicle of a personalized memoir with Thom Hartmann, the main cartoon character, leading the reader through the juxtaposition of American historical flashbacks with ongoing events. The publisher calls Hartmann "our contemporary Thomas Paine." Perhaps he is.

The illustrations by Neil Cohn and some of the story lines are reminiscent of Art Spiegelman's highly acclaimed "Maus" I and II. But Spiegelman delves mainly into his father's experiences as a survivor of Nazi Germany's death camps. Cohn , Hartmann et al take us through the contemporary, burgeoning American tyranny brought down on us by president George W. Bush's administration with the complicity of America's global corporations. And, by the way, unavoidable comparisons are made between Hitler's exploiting the Reichstag fire and Bush-Cheney's exploitation of the 9/11 catastrophe -- for launching an unprovoked and illegal invasion of Iraq.

"We the People .." is a logical extension of Hartmann's other book, his seminal "Unequal Protection: The Rise of Corporate Dominance and the Theft of Human Rights." But these are not knee jerk condemnations of American corporations. Rather, it is a call for putting the corporate genie back in its bottle by removing constitutional personhood rights from inanimate corporations before real live American citizens are literally reduced to slavery by them. Moreover, there are many important, timely, and expertly reported issues covered such as the dangers to American democracy of computer driven voting machines.

Specifically, "We the People .." carefully provides examples of known computer voting fraud in the chapter, "The Theft of Your Vote." Startling examples are used, such as the "stunning" landslide election of the Nebraska Republican Chuck Hagel in 1996 within solid Democratic territory. Referring to Bev Harris' book "Black Box Voting," we are led through the history of Hagel's win in solidly Democrat precincts -- fraudulently manufactured by the 80% of the computer voting machines stealthily installed by a company earlier headed by Hagel. The alarm is sounded: "As Charlie Matulka suggests: 'The can take over our country without firing a shot, just by taking over our election system'."

"We the People .." is a deadly serious comic book. In 12 chapters and 205 pages, this book covers virtually all of the important issues facing Americans and the democracy under which we live. This is one of the most informative and authoritative socio-political analyses of our time. Its warnings and remedies should be taken to heart before the freedoms that we have taken for granted for so long shall be systematically stolen from us. As the book's title proclaims, this is: "A Call to Take Back America."

Read this book and urge others to read it.
