Rating: Summary: "Modern day Japan and a China that never was..." Review: Priestess is a great start to a great series. The jist and nib of it is this: Miaka is a regular kid who one day gets sucked into a book. (Sounds cheesy, right? Really, I promise it's not.) She becomes the Priestess of the God Suzaku and must go and find seven people who have character marks on their bodies somewhere (neck, forehead, hand, etc.) and get them together so they can summon Suzaku and Miaka can make her wishes come true. Though the plot is not origional in every respect, Watase has the best characters. Miaka is a ditz. I do not like her and I'm not going to pretend I do. (This sounds bad towards the book, doesn't it?) Really, though. You even have to appreciate her, and she does have her moments. My favorite characters are probably the cross-dresser Nuriko and the wizard Chichiri. Everyone has a past, and not all of them are depressing. (Yay!) Though almost every character has endured hardships. Watase managed to pull this entire series off great and I'm very proud of her. (Plus she has these little 'letters to the readers' that are really worth reading. And eventually she writes a little parady at the end of each chapter.) It's a great read, even though it takes a little longer then most manga. And even after you've memorized the text, the graphics are something to be wowed by. :) Please read it!!!
Rating: Summary: Why does everyone like this so much? Review: This is is your average story about an average school student who suddenly finds out she has this destiny to save the world. How she is supposed to save the world-going back into ancient China and finding the 7 constellations-is original, though, and gives Fushigi Yugi the star. Except this is different from the average in that the main character, Miaka, is a twit. She often does silly things, and can be shallow as well, like how she goes back into ancient China. She goes back to Japan and assumes it was a dream. When she writes in her diary, she doesn't even MENTION China, she only mentions how she met a cute boy. (And there might be a romance between them! Can you believe it?)As for the artwork? It's good, but not as good as Alice 19th. The characters put on crazy expressions (such as that plus shaped vein that shows up when you are angry) way too often.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST MAGNA BOOK EVER Review: This is the best book ever!! It's about a 15 year old girl named Miaka who is a glutton and her best friend Yui who is trying to get into a high school that her mom wants her to get in but one day Miaka and Yui go to the library and Miaka and Yui find a book called the "Universe of the Four Gods" and they get sucked inside into a different world!! You're gonna have to get the book to read the rest and find out. Read the whole series, it's great!! (also try to watch the movie series)
Rating: Summary: Fushigi Yugi review Review: When I first got this book and opened it up, I really did not think I would like it at all since I'm not a big fan of shojo/romance stories and the characters are much prettier than I'm used to but oddly enough, I actually love this series now. O.o It's so weird, but I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished it and the artwork in particular is fantastic and very detailed, the best I've ever seen in manga. The plot's pretty good and Yu Watase definitely deserves credit for her creativity and talent. Not everyone will like this but just like everything else, it deserves a chance. The only bad thing I can find about this book is that it's unfortunately been flopped... anyways, I highly recommend it and if I can change my initial views of it, I know others can too.
Rating: Summary: I love this series. Review: Yu Watase is an extraordinary comic book artist. One of the resons is because she made this great comic series, Fushigi Yugi, the mysterious play. I'm so happy I decided to try out this series. I've always liked her other creations of Ceres, Celestial Legend, Alice 19th, and Imadoki!.
The main characters that are introduced in this comic is Miaka Yuki {the main character, a 15 year old who's mother is making her study for her high school entrance exam and depriving her of fun, The Priestess of Suzuku}, Tamahome { a gorgoues guy who saves Miaka and her best friend Yui when they first go into Universe of the Four Gods, he expects to be paid whenever he helps someone, a constellation of Suzuku}, Hotohori {the emporer of Hong-Nan, he is one of the seven constellations of Suzuku who cares deeply about Miaka} and Nuriko { a girl who is actually a guy, he has a thing for Hotohori and doesn't like Miaka, another constellation of Suzuku}.
The series is about a girl named Miaka Yuki who has to study every night for her high school entrance exams. One day at the library, Miaka and Yui find a book titled The Universe of the Four Gods, and they actually go into the book. And after not spending that much time in the book {they meet Tamahome who saves them from some whakos}, they somehow comeback to the library. On the second time in Miaka goes alone to escape from her mother. She meets Hotohori {and mistakes him for a woman
^-^}, who tells her she is a girl from a legend who must become the priestess of suzuku to save the empire, Hong-Nan {Suzuku is one of the four gods of China}. And that means Miaka has to the seven constellations of Suzuku. But what happens if the book becomes closed!?
The series takes place in Ancient China, inside the universe of the four gods.
Highly Recommended
