Summary: The Inspiration of Superman
Review: Superman is arguably the greatest superhero ever created; in sheer scope and power, he is rivaled by only Captain Marvel, and in force of will he is only rivaled by Batman. However, even Superman can learn a lesson every now and then--no one person can solve the world's problems, not even a Superman. The process of self-discovery is a poignant one, a necessary innocence lost in favor of wisdom.
I especially like the scene where an "ordinary" Clark taps into his farming roots to show people how to sow seeds properly; while Superman is visible on a larger scale, Clark is unseen and goes unrecognized--and effects greater change, at least in this one case.
I have to disagree that the story is suitable only for middle graders; there are layers to the plot that are not immediately visible. Of course, the artwork is superb; but the story bears further scrutiny. And if it seems naive to think that something as simple as this can make a change within those who read it, then I choose naivete. If the message reaches one person and they decide to do something about it then it was not in vain. As the artist and writer say in their dedication, Superman inspires us all.

Summary: One of the greatest Superman stories ever told.
Review: SUPERMAN: PEACE ON EARTH is an excellent story. It is very well written, told in the first-person caption point of view by Superman. Paul Dini has written possibly the best Superman story for 1998, with as always the beautiful, breathtaking painted art by Alex Ross. The oversize format of this book only enhances Ross' art in maximum detail. The story deals with Superman trying to end world hunger, only realizing that even he cannot do anything about it at the end. A terrific story for Superman's 60th anniversary in 1998.

Summary: Excelent reading!
Review: SUPERMAN: PEACE ON EARTH is one of that pieces that makes you understand why comics are art and not only kid's stuff. It has ALEX ROSS' art, the best comic book painter ever and an excellent story by PAUL DINI (creator of Batman The Animated Series). With big pannels of excellent artwork, they told a story that brings back the image of the original Superman, the image of a myth, fighting against a terrible enemy: hunger. An excellent reading and a great Christmas gift.

Summary: Better then the monthly comics
Review: Superman; Peace on Earth is more like an illistrated novel then a regular comic. It tells a more in depth story about the Man of Steel, showing us his human side. and the painted work that Alex does is far superior to conventional comic book art. because his heroes look and act like Flesh and blood characters and not as cartoon drawings. This can also be found with Marvels and Kingdom Come. So far only DC has done these type of books on a semi-reguar basis, but it would work with Marvel Characters also if an editor asked Ross to do it. Are you listening Marvel?

Summary: This is Great!
Review: Take time to read this and relish this. This is not a comic this is pure art and the writing and story will touch you and make you think! Give this out as a the best Christmas present you could give! Ross and Dini make the world real in the unreal universe of Superman. Alex Ross is the best and look for the tribute page to the Chrstopher Reeve Superman movies makes you pause and reflect that this world has problems but we can work them if we try. Again buy this book!

Summary: Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day...
Review: Teach a man to fish and he'll spend all day in a boat with a funny hat on. Okay, so that's not how it's supposed to be.

Superman: Peace on Earth is a great story, the tale is heartwarming, the artwork of Alex Ross is fantastic and I think makes a great effort to be much more then a comic book. I think that Paul Dini and Alex Ross are trying to help elevate the characters (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel) of these oversized books from just being characters and helping them deal with actual situations in real life. What if Superman was real? Would people just accept handouts from him even if he was working toward a selfless goal. Or would people see him as a symbol of imperialism or think that he has some hidden agenda?

I think that the overall moral of the story is great, even if you can do great things for other people, sometimes the best thing you can do is help other people do great things. In this case, Clark Kent, farmboy from Kansas helping teach some kids to grow things.

Summary: A perfect gift, especially at Christmas!
Review: The first of the Alex Ross/ Paul Dini graphic novels. What can I say, the artwork AND the writing doesn't get any better than this. I don't know of any book that has captured the fundamental essence and decency of the character better. Here is a man whose one reason to exist is to help those who need his help. Whose one real defeat is to be thwarted in giving that help. Superman never for one moment doubts that the reason for his great gifts is to help others. This is largely due to the down to earth teachings of Pa Kent: "As far back as we go, we've always had problems with sharing. Seem's everyone's so busy holding on to what they've got to care about how their neighbors are doing."
If the real America had a face, it would be the one on this cover.

Summary: Alex Ross does it again
Review: The paintings of Superman flying food to the hungry are spectacular. Superman really comes to life in this edition. Paul Dini writes a great tale to accompany Ross's spectacular painitings. To watch Superman discover the limits on his power, and trying his best to make sure everyone can receive some benefit from his powers. This book really captures your attention and leads you to a greater understanding of Superman and who he is and why he does what he does. This story is highly recomended to any fan new and old.

Summary: GREAT ART, VIRTUALLY NO STORY
Review: The two stars this book gets is very generously given. If I was buying a pin-up book, I'd give it the full five stars, but this is supposed to be a story! Alex Ross's painting a beautiful, giving Superman and old-fashioned, noble look and also depicting the world's problems very well. But there is no story to speak of here! Superman does go through some internal and external struggles, but what was told in some 64-odd pages could have been told in 20! It just goes on and on about the same issues and frankly bores. Yes, we know the world is messed up. We know that human beings are flawed, etc, etc. Tell us something new and stop being so preachy! I am planning to get the Batman, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel parts of this series and I'm crossing my fingers hoping that it gets better than this!
