Summary: Another tasty helping of Patterson life.
Review: "For Better or for Worse" has long been known as much more than a comic strip; it is a slice of life, at times painfully real life. Johnston addresses each trial and tribulation with style, and puncuates them with welcome comic relief. It is this unique blend of down-to-earth humour and thoughtful social commentary that makes the lives of the Pattersons so near and dear to us. Those titilated by the lower calibre of the average comic strip may disagree, but such is their loss.

Summary: The Pattersons deal with loss of a loved one
Review: Dealing with death is never easy, but Lynn Johnston manages it with humor and tact. Grandma Marian died, and although sad, it was never morbid. I would recommend this book to someone dealing with loss, as it shows that letting go isn't easy, but it can be done.

Summary: KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Review: I loved it! It was a very realistic, moving series of stripsthat dealt with death in a humane and compassionate as well asbelievable way.

The only negative comment I could make is that I just can't like April. I tried, but like a reader named becca71, I think April is a spoiled brat who is never disciplined and who goes out of her way to rile people. Although I don't approve of Jeremy's bullying tactics, April DID ask for it by singing that cruel song and for making obnoxious comments. I don't like the way poor Liz took the heat everytime bratty April got into something. I don't like the way April hogged the bathroom and impacted on Liz' time to get ready. I think April is a capital brat who has not a clue what "no" means and who is just a spoiled, silly, self-indulged little princess. Becca71 was right.

Summary: A wonderful, insightful collection - a keeper
Review: Lynn Johnston has again been able to touch the hearts and souls of her readers while keeping them smiling. Only someone who has lived through the "Sunshine and Shadow" of life could give her readers the insight of coping with illness, dying and bereavement. The "boomer" generation is now coping with children, careers, spouses and the care of aging parents. In showing how Elly, John, Liz, April and Michael cope with the death and dying of Grandma Marion while supporting Granddad support is given to those who are coping or will be coping with similar challenges. Other story lines are followed as well. We learn how April is growing and changing, how Liz coping at school and with boyfriend Anthony and how Mike is continuing his education at University. A wonderful collection which should be on your bookshelf. Well done Lynn!

Summary: EXCELLENT! A GENTLE PORTRAYAL OF LIVES
Review: Lynn Johnston is a genius! With the exception of April, she has created a delightful cast of characters, all of whom are believable and sympathtic. (April is for the birds). She is a gifted artist who has brought a nonpareil caliber to the cartoon genre. Three cheers and hearty kudos to Lynn Johnston and her courage for facing some realistic and challenging topics, e.g. sexuality and death. WE LOVE YOU, LYNN!

Summary: KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Review: Lynn Johnston is in a class by herself. She is by far and away the best illustrator and story teller ever to hit the funny pages. She's great! Her courage in portraying homosexuality, death, and adult themed issues, e.g. divorce and business is to be applauded. Her characters are all convincing and believable, and with the exception of obnoxious, spoiled April, truly delightful.

Summary: It's OK, but I've read better, a lot better.
Review: The book was an ok for a first time read , but after it became too damn uppity and "the world is a good place to live in" type of book for any rereading value. The character, Mike, is well shown, though. LJ has turned the once very funny book series, into a social issue comic. I personally read the comics to laugh, not think soundly on thoughts that are for another time.

Summary: HATS OFF TO LYNN JOHNSTON!
Review: This book is in a class by itself. Nobody in cartoon history has created such delightful (save for April with her fresh mouth) and believable characters. Nobody else has been brave enough to confont issues like breast exams, death of family members and loss of pets as well as homosexuality. It is a brave new look at a superior caliber of comics that is more than just a comic.

HATS OFF TO LYNN JOHNSTON!

Summary: Ms. Johnson inspires us all with her new collection.
Review: This newest collection of FBOFW deals with the every day happenings and the tragic one in a life time events. She is always able to nail these situations right on the head, grasping her readers and making her one of the greatest cartoonists!
