Summary: What is Ranma 1/2?
Review: To describe Ranma 1/2 to somebody who has not read it is to fall into a quagmire of terminology. Is it a comedy, a romance, or an action story? Yes. Is it a great story full of amusing and interesting characters, or is it two-dimensional and trite? Yes. Does it have appeal only for the dedicated fan of Japanese comics, with in-jokes and cultural references vital to understanding the plot, or does it have broad appeal extending to fans of Western comics, and even non-comic readers? Yes. Is it an honestly artistic work, with a real and universal message for its readers, or is it a cynically-produced piece of commercial work whose only purpose is to keep its readers hooked? Yes.

Don't misinterpret all this. Ranma 1/2 is a unique reading experience: a carefully crafted comic with excellent illustration, dialogue, and plot twists. But it does not take itself particularly seriously, and neither should the reader. And the series is very long, longer perhaps than it needed to be. After a certain number of volumes, the jokes begin to get predictable... Still, the work is good and the ideas are fascinating. The first volumes at least are a must read. Don't blame me if you get hooked.

Summary: the funniest, sweetest, best series ever!
Review:

Ranma 1/2 is one of the best manga series by one of the best writers ever. Ranma Saotome was your average teenage martial artist. That is, until his father, Genma Saotome took him to a certain martial arts training ground...

Next thing Ranma knows, he turns into a girl when he gets wet with cold water, and his dad turns into a panda! Warm water turns him back, but not permanently. To top it off, he's getting engaged to a "violent, macho chick" he doesn't even like!

As the series progresses, Ranma gains two more fiancees, both of which are through circumstances beyond his control, rivals in both martial and romantic areas, and skills in some of the most insane martial arts schools you've ever heard of!

Ranma 1/2 is one of the funniest, sweetest, most insane series ever written. You will sympathize with the characters, from Mousse's terrible eyesight, to Akane's frustration with being engaged to such a huge jerk, to Ryoga's absolute patheticness, to Ranma's just plain bad luck! This series has an enormously complicated, but fun, plotline that I can't even begin to explain in just 1,000 words, so I'll just leave you with this advice: read it and find out!

Summary: a MUST HAVE for all Ranma ½ fans!
Review: At first, i was reluctant to buy this comic as i thought that since it was the first volume it might not be as funny as the later volumes which were the ones i had originally started reading it. However, my first impression was when i noticed the price of the book, it was the same as all the rest, the big difference was it was probably double the size of the usual Ranma ½ book! So, it's excellent for its price, and it lasts for quite a few nights, not hard to finish off! The story is about when Ranma & Akane first meet, i shouldn't say anymore or i'll give away the surprises! The humour is up to its usual standards, hillarrious! Rumiko Takahashi hasn't faultered in that aspect! However, on the bad side of it, in the beggining the drawings are sort of scratchy, i suppose since Rumiko Takahashi just started the series, you can't really complain. On the brighter side, it goes back to normal later on in the book! Another thing was that it was missing all the other characters, like Shampoo and Ukyo and Mousse and Kodachi! But Rumiko Takahashi couldn't bring them all in in the first volume, so you can't really blame her! However if you're for Ranma & Akane pairing, you'll LOVE this (i seriously reccomend buying). The reason for this is that there are no other fiancees so Ranma can have some time alone with Akane without any interuptions! If you know of Ranma ½ and have not yet read it i suggest to buy it as it's the begining of a world far beyond imagination (ok where's that peachy line come in from). However, a word of warning, if you're touchy about the issue of nudity, i'd reconsider! Nothing actually X-rated, just slight nudity here and there!

Summary: Great fun.
Review: What happens when cold water can turn you into a girl or a panada? What happens when your fiancee hates men and you don't really get along with her either? What do you get when you add the martial arts, an enemy who might hate you but love your other form and lots of hormones? A big, funny mess!

If you like Ranma 1/2, there are other manga series by the same artist and DVDs are out also. Some of the books, like Rumic World Trilogy volumes are non-related short stories, great if you don't wish to get hooked into one of the series. I would also suggest the 'Oh My Goddess!' books by Kosuke Fujishima.

Summary: Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink :)
Review: Oh, where on earth do I start? Ranma 1/2 is... wierd, wacky, and wild. I started out my anime collection with this one. When I first recieved the book as a gift, I was going to share the series with my little brothers because I thought the cover was cute and kid-friendly. I changed my mind when I opened the book :) There is partial nudity in all of the books (and yes, I've read them all) and it usually seems to be part of the plot (when there is one). Of all the books, the first 10 are the best. After that, the plot kind of disappears in the effort to make more martial-arts fighting contests (let's see... there's been martial arts badminton, watermelon smashing, tea ceremonies... Ms. Takahashi goes to all lengths to come up with new stuff) Well, I recommend this book to more mature viewers who still get the urge to read nonsense once in a while :) The slap stick humor is hysterical and I highly enjoyed it while it lasted. I also recommend Inu-Yasha, although it is somewhat graphic :) I hoped this helped somebody out there in the great blue yonder :)

I strongly suggest you read #1 first or else you will have no idea what it is about!

Summary: The First Stop in the Introduction to Manga... Ranma 1/2
Review: If you must choose a manga to show to that particular person who has never read any kind of manga before, Ranma 1/2 is just the title. Or, if you have never read any manga, this is your title. One of the most hilarious and (in my opinion) greatest manga of all time, this title will take hold of you and never let go until the very last laugh.

Although greatness doesn't ever come without its pit falls. Unfortunately the artwork in this isn't the best I have ever seen in manga, and some of the expressions don't always make the point clear in their lack of expressive style. I have seen manga art must better than this, but overall the humor and the storyline of this title MORE than make up for what it lacks (hence my giving it four stars out of five)

If you want THE manga of all manga stories this is your stop. Just be careful, for once you begin on this title you won't even notice how it a big hole in your pocket (a very looooong series) ^_~
