Rating: Summary: felt cheated Review: I bought this book expecting something cool new. What i got was just a half hazard collection of tee shirt designs put together. I felt cheated as an Emily fan.
Rating: Summary: Children's format not appropriate for nihilist indulgence Review: I got a copy of this at a garage sale for my six year old daughter Emily, who is quite wonderfully strange. The title and picture book format gave me the impression that the character Emily would be eccentric. Instead, it was pretty hideous and I'm truly sorry that my Emily read it and was horrified before I had the chance to look it over. It may be someone's cutesy art school prank, but you should recognize that people will be drawn to it for children because of its format, and that it's not appropriate for small children.
Rating: Summary: Emily rocks! Review: I have this calendar displayed at work and I've received more than a few comments about it! The calendar matches the general scheme of the Emily Strange books: each month has a picture of Emily (who is usually accompanied by one or more of her cats) along with one of her famous "catchphrases." All of the artwork is done in red, black, and white, and it has a very gothic feel to it. My favorite thing about the calendar is the way some major dates are altered to reflect Emily's unique personality: "Bad Friday" instead of "Good Friday," "Bunny Sunday" for "Easter Sunday", etc. Very original!

Rating: Summary: emily is so cool Review: I really like the Emily the strange book because it has really cool pictures & I'm a big fan of Emily. Emily the Strange is a brief and funny biography of Emily. I really like Emily because of her individualism and uniqueness and she is sort if just like me. Although, the book doesn't have that many words and it didn't really have a plot, but its fun to look at the pictures. I highly don't recommend this book for children. Its not that the book is inappropriate, but there are somethings that are not very nice. This book is a great present for goth people, rockers, wierd people, and people who are fans of Emily the strange.
Rating: Summary: Words to live by... Review: I think this book is great - It's short and to the point. One of those books I pick up and read in 5 minutes (literally - I think there's a total of 40 words in the whole book) when I'm having a bad day. Makes me smile, and that's what's most important. I bought myself a copy and bought a copy for each of my friends! By the way, it is NOT a novel. And it does read like a children's book, but that is why it's so darn cute.
Rating: Summary: A Great Bookfor Review: I'm 15, ny name, ironically enough, is Emily. This book is hilarious, more so because I noticed several similarities between Emily and myself. It's not for kids? That depends on your definition of "kids". Many teens and pre-teens (myself included) feel kind of warm and fuzzy to realize that there is someone as strange as they are, strange enough to write a book about it even. I would not say that this book is for "Goths", or at least not exclusively, it's just for people who are strange. If you liked this book, try Emily's Book of the Strange, which is even better.

Rating: Summary: Awesome book! Review: Im 16 and live in Chicago, and I love Emily: the strange. She is such an awesome girl, I love her rebellious attitude.
Rating: Summary: An OK read.. Review: It's an OK little book.. that is, if you haven't been spoiled by the work of say, Jhonen Vasquez and Gorey himself. This series of books (I own this book and Book of the Strange) is pretty disappointing to me. I usually don't resort to this as a reason, but I really think that this book is a little too immature. It must appeal mostly to 12 and 13 year old teenybopper girls who've "gone GOTH" or something. So, if that's your demographic, go for it. But I got these books when I was 16, and I am VERY much into comics and 'dark' humor, but Emily doesn't cut it. Emily isn't "strange". She's mostly your stereotypical "whoah I am sooooo unique" little girl. The book isn't funny and isn't creative. As much as I love red, black, and white, the art is completely lacking in detail and is not moving at all. It's not even creepy. So in summary, I really don't like Emily. It's trying to fit into a genre while still appealing to young girls, and in my opinion it's failing. I gave it one star because it looks pretty cute, as a book, and it had maybe 2 illustrations with a little 'hidden' picture that was kind of neat. I still will probably end up selling my copies though.
