Summary: Great adult comic.
Review: I just received this today, and I'm already halfway through it. I only recently got into adult comics, and this might be the best. Though it lacks my beloved Ellie Dee, I would say this is even better than Cherry Comics, since it actually has a plot. Though, to really compare the two would be a mistake, since they are totally different.As many others have commented, it's offbeat, hilarious, graphically violent, profanity heavy; in other words, what makes for great fantasy reading. I will definitely be ordering more Preacher novels in the future.

Review: Most people, when they think of comics, think Superman, Spiderman or X-men. However, these tales are simply child'splay, harmless fun for young audiences. These books have taken graphic novels to new levels, containing depth of both plot and character to match any Shakespeare or Dickens. Review: The first volume of the Preacher series was great! I read through it, the whole time totally absorbed. It was very violent and vulgar, but not somehow it just fit with everything. Overall, if you like a cool story, and want to see some twisted stuff, this is the place to do it.

Review: I've always been fascinated by the unique kind of morality found among the dregs of society. Middle America has its William Bennett as moral compass; so the messy underside has Jesse Custer (a truly inspired choice of surname with resonances of General Custer!). In this, the premier collection of PREACHER tales, masterly composed and illumined by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, we meet not only Jesse the Preacher, but also his token adolescent male fantasy eye candy, but not entirely unredeemable girlfriend, Tulip and Cassidy, the way too cool to be real, but you still want to be friends vampire. Ennis is a brilliant character stylist and blows his creations far beyond what is usually expected (and received) from the funny books. There is quite literally tons of violence, profanity, and sexual situations, so this is not recommended for the very young or the faint of heart; however, and as unlikely as it may seem, none of that is in the least bit gratuitous. Ennis and Dillon skillfully craft their combination morality and miracle play around, through, and with these four-color folk and their interactions. Scary! Yes! Some scenes, while not the goriest ever, are enticingly shivery and linger with the reader after the book is closed and tucked nicely away on the nightstand. A great read. I feel badly that some readers just won't be able to get past the vehicle to get to the fun.

Review: An awesome tale that can best be described as a mix between the X-Files, Pulp Fiction, and The Devil's Advocate. If you love viloent, butt-kickin, don't-pull-out-the-stops-no-matter-what type stories, you'll love this. An excellent choice for anyone in search of a great "guy" book.

Summary: How comics should be
Review: Preacher is a western (admittedly a slightly sick and twisted western) viewed through the eyes of two talented British creators. Jesse is a beaten man until he bonds with Genisis and begins the hunt for a reluctant god, throw in an irish vampire and a gun-toting girlfriend and it's perfect. A combination of brilliant characterisations and twisted tales, this book is bound to offend some- but if you want a something other than spandex clad battles and a genuinely intelligent read then this is the one.

Summary: Extremely Derivative Storyline...
Review: Anyone who has read Neil Gaiman's Sandman will know what I am talking about here. Gaiman's influence on the overall plot is so obvious as to be almost embarassing. Where Sandman has Lucifer abdicating his throne, Ennis puts a twist and makes God abdicate his throne, etc... The overall macro-storyline aside, Ennis is entirely his own man when it comes to his charcters and style. Wonderfully brutal, irreverent, and at times downright insightful, Preacher is great entertainment, and a must read for those who found Gaiman's Sandman pretentious. Buy it, buy them all. They rock.
